I also played this game in the PC originally, and finished it. I HAD to. It ruined a semester of college for me, it's that addictive. You'll start playing, and 4 hours will literally pass by unnoticed. The combination of 1st person play, A.I., the ability to make choices that control your gaming experience, the intelligence and suspense of the story line and character development, and the sheer scale of the gaming enviornment make this the greatest game I have ever experienced. And yes, you don't simply play this game, you experience it. As much as I love Grand Theft Auto 3. it doesn't hold a candle to the intelligence and story line that Deus Ex offers a gamer. What you may find pathetic though... is I miss this game. I loved it so much, I MISS it. I've never found waiting for a sequel to a game so torturous in all my life. I miss this game so much, I plan on buying it for the PS2 and enjoying it again. Here's hoping I don't ruin another semester.

Having played the PC version of DEUS EX until my mouse hand was reduced to little more than a gnarled nub, I thought I was going to have a hard time remaining objective about the quality of the PS2 port. Often when a popular PC game is ported to a console, it loses its soul in the translation (see GIANTS: CITIZEN KABUTO).
Ion Storm proved my fears to be unfounded. They've done a wonderful job with this one, including a flawless implementation of the PS2's controller that sees every single button used, and used quite well. The control is similar to other first-person games on the system; look with the right stick, walk with the left. The augs and skills are managed with the circle button, the inventory is managed with the square. Toggle crouch with the L3 button, reload with the R3. After about a half hour the control scheme becomes second nature. Beautiful.
Most of the maps have been redone in order to take advantage of/compensate for the PS2's hardware capabilities/limitations. Some levels have been streamlined and improved, yet others feel cramped, and it becomes obvious that the developers were trying to squeeze every ounce of processing power out of the system, and make every one of its 32 Megs of RAM pull more than its own weight. Some textures aren't as sharp as they could be, but the lighting effects are awesome and the NPC animation is first-rate. Load screens are frequent (moreso than in the PC version), but they're quick.
For those concerned about violence in video games; in a testament to the depth of gameplay, it's entirely possible to finish DEUS EX without killing a single person. For a challenge, try it on "realistic" difficulty, with auto-aiming off, playing non-lethal.
Give this one a go if you're a fan of conspiracy-based first-person shooter-sneakers with heavy RPG elements. Haven't found any games like that for the PS2 yet? Buy DEUS EX: THE CONSPIRACY. It'll keep you busy for weeks.

After HalfLife, Red Faction and Sons of Liberty I hardly expected to find another good FPS - instead I found THE FPS! Deus Ex is one of the very few games I recommend buying. Unlike most games, which can be finished in a couple of days, Deus Ex goes on and on, 24/7, and isn't pre-determined - it might be the only game that can be played totally differently by different players.
Also, the graphics are great. They don't look all that impressive at first glance, but during gameplay you notice little details and even if you play for hours straight, you don't get that queasy feeling, usually associated with FPS's.
There's an unbelievable amount of weapons and gadgets, but you have to choose which ones you want - you're limited to a certain amount of weapons on you at a time, which makes the game more interesting.
Bottom line - YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME!

If this title is half as good on the PS2 as it was for the pc than it is a must buy. My friend got it for the PC and I got hooked. Its a mix of almost any game genre all in one. In first person perspective you travel through many levels and are forced to solve puzzels, shoot the hell out of bad guys, find keys, and eventually choose sides. Help the agency or help your rogue brother. As a robot/human you are built to kill but can choose wether to be a nice robot or a shoot the beepin beep out of everything robot(killing civies is not punished :) happily). You can mace a little kid for the fun of it, or save a lonely bum, its all up to you. In my opinion this game is a must have whether you play PC or PS2.

This game was originally released for PC/MAC and did very well.It was so fun that I could even watch my brother play it.You (as a mechanized mercenary/agent)can explore New York, Hong Kong, and even Paris.(enough spoilers for now)You can get completely off course to break into apartments, warehouses, and so on.
As far as the story goes, you are betrayed by one person after another and you eventually end up as a loner.
As far as a first-person shooter goes, this ranks up there with Red Faction and TimeSplitters.(both for Ps2)I would definitely consider this game as very good and well-rounded.I already have it ordered.

When I play this game I can't help feel slightly disappointed by the fact that the PC version is so much better and that it is just a cheap port created because the developers felt like squelching more money out of the innocent people that are you and me. However, with that 'truth' aside, this game is an absolute masterpiece and no matter how rushed together this game is, it is still better than about 99% of games on the market today.
Graphics: 6/10
The graphics on the PS2 version of this game are only just above average. At first glance they look and feel smooth and textured. But, if you zoom into any of the objects in the game then you will realise that they are made up of pixels about the size of football pitches. As for the smoothness, it only takes a small gun battle with about two or three enemy soldiers and this game begins to freeze and ju... jum. p, jump.
Sound: 10/10
This is what first 'Wowed' me about the game, the music is incredible and is worthy of a Grammy any day... well actually, I wouldn't go that far, but it's still great. The music changes appropriately with the mood of the game e.g. if you are in an intense sneaking area then the music won't start blaring out some kind of heavy rock like in some games. The sound effects are top notch and the guns don't sound whim perish either.
Game play: 10/10
This is where the game really gets its place in the gaming hall of fame for me because it gives you so much choice and you can choose exactly how you play the game. You can upgrade your weapons using things like scopes, laser sights, silencers, extended mags and faster reload mods etc. You can also improve your character with character modifications. These include melee weapon skill upgrades, defence upgrades and rifle upgrades etc. In addition to this you can use special augmentation canisters which allow you to do a lot of things such as increase speed, increase jump height and reduce running noise etc. you choose which of these you use because, ultimately, its these choices which affect the way you play the game. Aswell as upgrading you're character, they're many routes you can take through the game and many different people you can talk too and different sides you can take. These choices also affect the outcome of the game. This is all very important because there are three different endings to choose from. Never before have I seen a game that has such diverse and dynamic game play as this.
Lifespan: 10/10
The first thing I noticed about this game was the fact it had no multiplayer. This was a down draw for me because it's usually the multiplayer, which keeps you going back to a game. However, the actual game is so long, it will take you ages to complete and, not only that but once you have completed it you will want to complete it again and again differently. The game also has a training mode, which will take away about, ewwww, 10 minutes of your time. Now that can't be bad can it?
Overall 10/10
Apart from the graphics this game is spectacular and well deserves all the hype it has received. It has won over 50 game of the year awards on the PC and deservedly so. Just remember, graphics don't make a game so go and buy this now.
Just wanted to back up the REAL reviewers opinion that this is the BEST GAME EVER, and that is all there is to it

When I say this, I am taking mario, pitfall, pacman, mario rpg, gran turismo, any game that you can name, this is better.
The past reviewer said that he has played this all the way through 6 times and still finds it entertaining. WELL I HAVE MADE IT THROUGH IT 10!!!! TIMES AND I SERIOUSLY THINK THAT I HAVE DISCOVERED EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO IN THIS. But I will still have to play it an 11th cause the 10th time I found like 5 undiscovered things. Honestly you will be playing this for the 10th time and you will go behind some building and see an old man and he will tell you all this new info on the story that will lead to something else happening in the game that didn't happen last time.
The game is so original in the way it allows you to interact with people and so many times that you get to talk to the same people, yet have different and very interesting conversations.
The first time I played this I played o nteh medium hard level and was wondering if it was ever going to end, and I just jept on hoping it wouldn't. After about 6 days and playing it about 12 hours!!!!!!! a day, I thought my wish was gonna come true and never end, but unfortunately it did and I had to move on with my life.
So the only bad part about this game is that it does end, but as long as you can get over that, it is very enjoyable. Now we just need to figure out a way to have all games made by eidos. that would be sweet.
Also about this game ending, you shouldn't buy this if you get real emotional after playing a good game and life is just depressing when you beat it. But don't worry, you can use this game just like crack for about a year, then you need to get hitman contracts, and then you can go make video games because you have played and beaten the 2 best games ever.

The graphics in Deus Ex are not beautiful. Having gotten that out of the way, I can mention everything else about this game that is beautiful.
This is an intelligent game. If you liked State of Emergency, don't even think about buying this game, because you will hate it. After playing for 20 minutes, you will begin to see that actions have consequences and choices you make affect you as a person. Your neurons will not be able to handle this and you will explode.
This is a wellmade game and incredibly immersive. I found myself sleeping through classes because I had been playing it from 10PM to 5 AM.
All in all it's about 30 hours of gameplay, more or less depending on your skill and different choices which you make.
During the game, you have the choice to make your character as you see fit, upgrade his nanotech augmentations and choose his weapons, tools and skills.
The political story underlying the game is interesting as well... it offers a look at those in the higher echelons of power attempting to remake the world as they see fit and the disastrous consequences of their actions. Remind you of anything?
Buy the game. It's incredible. Enjoy.
An extremely cheap, but excellent game

I honestly believe, next to the GTA series, this is my favorite game of all time.
and to tell you, I'm no avid PS2 gamer, I pick up and play just whenever I feel like it. There are Very few games out there that I like so when I picked this game up in the bargin bin for $15 at a Best Buy last December, figured for something so cheap I might as well try it out. Almost a year later I'm still obsessed with this game.
The camera is a bit dizzying at times but that's why I suggest you don't rush through looking around, this definitely will boggle your brain if you go through a frenzy just spinning around.
The controls are a bit tricky (which is why I suggest you go through the training bit in the Very beginning), you use both analog sticks to walk and view things at the same time. Once you get this down the rest of the controls are a breeze.
It's a simple yet challenging game at times, keeps you on edge while making you work to figure out 'what next?'
I spent at least 4 days on this game until I beat it, it's so addicting. I loved how you get to choose your own destiny and path throughout the game, not to mention the 3 different ending possibilities rock.
About 11 months after I first beat it I decided to pick it up again and go through each level once more, saving it, so if I ever wanted to I could pick up the game and do a favorite mission of mine. I'm almost done once again and I've spent only 2 days on it this time. You pick up more secrets and tricks to make it easier as you go through the game a second time.
But to wrap up this review, I do suggest you buy this game.
Hell I'm even considering buying an Xbox to finish off the rest of the series. (I am going to buy other games for the console, I'm not That crazy)
the best interactive shooting game around

I have this game for PC and I must say, I can't wait until it comes out for PS2. Not only does this game have a creative plot, really sweet weapons, and plenty of options when it comes to how to play the game, where to go, and what weapons you want to use, but you can also interact with almost anyone that you run into (almost meaning you can talk to everyone as long as you have good relations with them). From one gamer to the next, if you haven't tried this game yet, then you better get your butt out there and buy this game for PC or order it for PS2 or both.
