the best interactive shooting game around

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 8

I have this game for PC and I must say, I can't wait until it comes out for PS2. Not only does this game have a creative plot, really sweet weapons, and plenty of options when it comes to how to play the game, where to go, and what weapons you want to use, but you can also interact with almost anyone that you run into (almost meaning you can talk to everyone as long as you have good relations with them). From one gamer to the next, if you haven't tried this game yet, then you better get your butt out there and buy this game for PC or order it for PS2 or both.

Great game!

Although for many players Graphic quality is most important and this game is not that much succesful in this aspect, game playing and details are wonderful. It was so much fun for me, I think you should try it once.

The Best

I am a long time fan of the old Theif and Theif 2 games. All the same fun with a much more complex story and interaction. Sliding through shadows and emerging long enough to take a couple out with the sniper rifle then disappearing. The tricks, traps and situations. I love being able to have the time to decide on the most clever way to get past an obsticle without being hurried arcade style. The ability to be the type of person you want and the story following it adds to the experience. All of this combined makes this the best game (and type of game) for me. I will buy Deus Ex II, III, IV and so on.

Great game that could have used some trimming

I can see why this game won so many Game of the Year awards. The player has multiple ways to deal with each problem, and it feels like there are some real choices to make with no real "right" answer. The plot and environments are also reasonably engrossing.

Unfortunately, the game just goes on for too long. Until I reached Chinatown, I was thoroughly enjoying the game. I liked how my relationship to the characters and the gameworld changed. I also liked the new weapons, new situations, and even the reasonably cliched "wake up unconscious in a cell with all of your equipment gone" portion.

From Chinatown on I felt reasonably disengaged from what was going on. I no longer had to think about the environments, because I always knew I could take people face on, or go through a ventilation shaft, or disable security. The number of organizations and shadowy figures exploded and it became hard to care about any of the new characters I was introduced to. Also, JC became too damn powerful, mostly because of how I chose my augmentations, and most of the tension from the early part of the game was now gone. On the other hand, I did complete the game, which is pretty rare for me on a game as lengthy as this one was.

For the sequel, which I am interested in, I would recommend reducing the breadth of the story (focus on just UNATCO/NSF would have made for a much better one), and adding more variation to the gameplay, at least in setups and combinations of setups if not at the base core mechanic level.

For those who care about the sort of thing, there are lots of technical issues with the game. The most glaring one is the load times throughout the levels, which makes back tracking (especially in Hong Kong) rather painful. The graphics are definitely not gorgeous, the game crashed about three or four times on me, and the voice acting in Hong Kong is about as bad as it gets.

Deus Ex is a FPS with a science fiction bent that actually produces an interesting combination. You don't need the cheat codes to succeed in the game. Game is very long and the plot is pretty interesting (although I am only 85% done with it). Graphics are pretty good and game play is good. Clearly the complexity of the plot and the augmentation power-ups make the game unique. Controls are pretty clumsy but can be operated efficiently as experience is gained. The medium level is pretty easy, so I bet replay is decent playing at a harder level. Overall a pretty solid and engrosing game.

Deus Ex: Long, yet sneaky

One of the best games yet this year. Never played anything like it. Four stars are because the game is LONG. Been playing for about four or five days now, and im just starting the third level. Not for James Bond fans, as it is not really a jump out and shoot em up game. You gotta be sneaky.

Top 5 All Time Game

This game is the bomb! The whole day could pass by without you knowing it. I've spent many weekends, staring at the clock, seeing how much time I had left until I had to do something responsible around the house. It's that deep. There's so much you can do and you'll never get tired of doing it. Whoever thought of the "save anywhere" feature is alright in my book and will find a stocking stuffer under his/her Christmas tree this year. I was actually interested in the story for a change. The controls are sweet. If I didn't have tons of other video games that I have yet to open, I'd be replaying this one again. This game is a must for shooter fans. I would rate it in my "Top 5 All Time Games." Oh yeah, stay away from "No One Lives Forever" unless you like games that smell.

This game is a work of art!

The scale of this game my top 10 list ever. Once I started playing I could not stop. It blew me away anyone who likes first-person shooters should own this game. The graphics arn't the best and the controls are a little strange, but the plot and gameplay more than makes up for it.
