I really like how they put an rpg twist to this game. but it still is pretty annoying though. one thing is that its one of those games that takes you hours to figure what to do.I love the different weapons and tools you get, you get everything from a pistol to a lockpit. The story is very good. overall its ok.

I was curious about this game. My brother loved the pc version and loads of people have been raving about in the reviews so I bought it for the PS2 eagerly opened it and started playing. I have to admit I didn't even get past the first level. The movement is horrible, I was expecting something as well done as Red Factions movement. The frame rate drops constantly. To put it another way, it felt like I was playing a first person shooter that predates Doom (for any of you who don't know, Doom was one of the first first person shooter games ever)or it seems like a first person shooter done on the original playstation. It seems like this port was half done and was relying on the popularity of the PC game to sell it. So as not to be totally negative I did think it was a cool story and that you could make decisions in the game that affected how the game progresses, but unfortunatly a game cannot be considered good just b/c the story is good. If you are still considering buying this half finished game, I'd suggest you rent it first or buy it for the PC (there are even adapters so you can use your PS2 controller with a PC now). If this were the first PS2 game I ever played I would have gotten a gamecube of xbox.
Good game but I hated it

You know, 5 years ago and several FPS before, I probably would have loved this game. The story is very good and actually in my opinion bares some slight semblance to reality, at least in terms of how the politics work. There are a lot of ways you can go through the game that make give you some leeway.
I guess for me though, none of it clicked. I had the story figured out after the beginning of the second mission, and basically you can sneak everywhere or kill everything. In the meantime your skills (swimming, lockpicking, computers) determine the secret stuff you can get. The thing is it's REALLY boring and REALLY time consuming to sneak around so after you get caught twice you're tired of it. And the shooter engine isn't as good as other FPS. So basically, it's a bad FPS with a good story that I already knew. Too bad, it had potential.
HUGE disappointment

I like alot of other reviewers here got this game because everyone had the PC version and was ranting and raving about how great it was.
I'm not gunna dwell much on the graphics, because if you've read any of the other reviews you'll know it looks like an atari game. Not even to be mean, trying to figure out the "multiple" ways to solve a problem is pretty darn tough when everything in the game looked like a pixilated mess. Probably the one thing i couldnt get over the during the game was the sound effects. Another reviewer said he thought the sounds were a 10/10. He must have had the volume REAL low, cuz toy guns sound more convincing. I remember playing through the 1st level trying out the non gunfire weapons (knives, swords etc) and laughed out loud at the sound effects. THEN found out guns made the same noise! Regardless of any weapon you use the only sound effect you get is a Whapping sound that could be compared to snapping your belt. It made the game more humorous than anything else.
So we all know how bad it looks and sounds, how about how well it plays. I've never played the computer version, but the ps2 version is a clunky mess. Everytime you look around, a bright green box surrounds anything important. Sounds helpful, but when you are in the middle of a gun fight and the auto aim switches over to highlight a plant or something stupid its fairly frustrating. As other people mentioned, everytime you do anything such as switch a weapon or use an item you need to switch from menu to menu. This completely broke any level of enjoyment I rarely got out of this catastrophe of a game.
Dont let the price fool you, this game is an ugly mess. I even got it for less used a video game store, and couldnt even finish it because i couldnt take this mess seriously. Do yourself a favor and buy a better ps2 game.

This game would be alot better if your character could move straight ahead and sideways easily and if the weapons cycled faster.
The view presented by Deus Ex is just awful and isn't easily dealt with. Hopefully Doom 3 will be much better than this game.
One thing though -- the cheat code is very useful and without it Deus Ex would be frustrating useless junk.

This is one of the greatest games of all time. The plot is incredible, keeping you on your toes throughout the gaming experience. The grapics are decent, especially for the age of this game and the system it was on. I loved the opportunity to make choices that determined my character's progression.
A little RPG and a little FPS = a lot of FUN

I had heard about this title for a long time before it finally came out on the PS2. I am not disappointed at all with this game. Given the choice on how you take the fight to the bad guys makes this game interesting. The story line is great. My only problem is the ending. Having 3 choices is fun, but once you complete one of them, the game just kind of drops off without really showing how your choice affects the rest of the world. This is more evident when you decide to merge with the computer at the end of the game. JC Denton emerges from the chamber, mutters a few lines and that's it! I was expecting a lot more from that choice.
It would be great to carry more ammo, or be able to carry more weapons. I haven't found a use for the plasma rifle at all, like to use the GEP Gun more than anything else, which means I run out of ammo when I need it most. Otherwise, this is a top notch title, and I can't wait for the next one to come out.
