One of the worst games ever created

I remember buying this game and thinking, "this is going to be another cool shooting game, kinda like Max Payne." Well, I was completely wrong on both accounts. This game is terrible, and it is NOTHING like Max Payne. The graphics are some of the worst I have ever seen in a video game, even for the time period that this game came out in. The controls are also some of the worst I have ever encountered. The worst part of this game, however, is the plot/gameplay. In short - there is no plot. This guy just runs around killing things while his stupid pet does dumb tricks that a real dog would never do.

This game is a cheap knockoff of Max Payne, and it performs poorly. I would recommend sticking your head in the toilet over buying this game. At least you can take a shower afterwards.

Bad storyline and dialogue, empty and bland fighting... Fun concept, adrenaline and BAM he's airborn shooting people... but so what? Each level is just a graphical variation on the one before it, each enemy just another skin with another gun. Don't bother.

If you have no values in life other than yourself this game is for you. I got rid of it as I did not want my dog to get any ideas. Cross the street and find a better game.

very juvenile

this game starts out really cool - the controls are good and the takedowns are wild. this is where you disarm an enemy and blow his head off in one move. but then things start to slide very quickly. the game is punctuated by puzzles which are extremely annoying and not at all fun. the worst of which is the bomb disarming where you run a ball through a maze and if you touch the edges the bomb explodes. this reminds me of a very stupid game that must have been around in the 70s or 80s. why namco would resurrect this ridiculous concept as part of dead to rights is beyond me!!! the action is also soooooo arcade - enemies pour onto screen so you can blow them away with auto-aim. this is fun for about 5 minutes but the game never develops beyond this. it's like time crisis without the piece. if your under 12 this game may be for you but even kids these days are sophisticated gamers so I don't know.

It is a good game until u beat it... i suggest renting it..

I had alot of fun when I rented this game, however I just can't see why anyone would want to throw down $50 and buy it.

Although sicking your gaurd dog on bad guys was fun,I was annoyed at how few times you could use it in a level. This also adds to the point of getting extremely tired of being shot at with uzis and automatic rifles from 6 to 8 people!(The graveyard level with the clowns!!!!)

As for the mini games you unlock as you progress through the game, well they aren't really games so much. You just end up playing the exact same part that you did in a certain area of the game, and then that's it...all done!No harder levels are added to the mini games,no high scores to beat, and more importantly nothing rewarded for beating the mini-game.The lockpick game for instance lasts under a minute if you complete it correctly!
The only mini-game that I'd imagine anyone would replay is the heidi dances game(a stripper dancing to which you must push the correct buttons to create her moves)Actualy,I REALLY like that mini-game...but why not add more to it,say more moves, faster pace and even a bonus "cinema" for completing it.

Again,I had ALOT of fun with this game;but after about five or six days it just gets old...

Gets a little repetetive

This is ausome at what it does. If you liked Max Payne you'll love this. You get to shoot whilst holding a weapon in each hand, slow mo dives, you can use your dog to charge at your enemies. There's some great hand to hand combat with disarming(getting gun of enemy)an enemy being the best. Push something like square and circle you'll automaticly do an ausome move.

There's the odd mini game such as dissarming bombs, pick locking and there's a Metal Gear like torture scene.

Mixed bag of tricks.

The reviewer who compared this game to Time Crisis without the gun is right on. When you shoot enemies, despite the options available to you, the best way to get through them all is to mash the buttons as quickly as you can. The lock-on feature is handy, but it makes it too easy to target enemies and the big colorful triangles zooming everywhere take away from the setting of the game. You may be in a nightclub or in a dark tunnel but you'll still have bright red and green targeting reticules zipping everywhere.

If that's all there was to it I would have given the name 2 stars. The shooting is fun, and there are lots of different weapons and a slow motion feature stolen from Max Payne. Unfortunately the slow motion is only activated when you dive, and stops as soon as you hit the floor. This means the uses are limited, because it's hard to aim at lots of enemies when you can only shoot in one direction. Max Payne is far more fluid.

Yet the game has lots of little additions. The disarms are one of the best, and really the big attraction for me. What that says about my state of mind I don't know, but I have never seen a game where you were able to take an enemy's gun away and break some bones in the process. The only problem is, this makes the game a little too easy. Why bother shooting a bad guy five times when you can just saunter up to him and press O? This is even possible in large groups because during the disarm process you are invulnerable.

However, the game also contains a pretty nice combat system. Combos are possible, using the X and [] buttons, and you can also dodge and throw enemies. They will try to throw you as well, and it's possible to break their through. This beats Max Payne's flailing-the-baseball-bat by far. In fact, it's so fun that I often ignore the guns and just run around taking everyone on without weapons.

Being able to control the dog adds another element, although these are limited. The sub-games are an interesting addition. Most of them are quite easy, although I became very frustrated with the prison gym games until I realised it wasn't necessary to complete every one of them to continue. I couldn't beat the weight-lifting challenge and swore at the screen for some time before I decided to give it up and go explore the prison some more...

All in all, though Max Payne is far better than this game.. It has enough things going on, and the graphics are very smooth and detailed.

This game is worth a renal at best

Dead to rights is a good game but not as good as Max PAyne to me
Pros:
Syphon Filter and Max Payne like gameplay
Enimies are challanging
Nice cutseenes
Alot of guns
Adreniline mode helps alot
I love using guys as shields
Unlike Max Payne and Gabe, this dide can fight
Cons:
A story ripped of from Max Payne
Ugly weapons system(can't hold alot of bullets)
Not so good regular graphics
When weapons fire, sound like it has too much bass
can't jump
Not so good music
Nothin much to do after u beat it

This game is not as good as max payne, but it's worth checkin out. I'd suggest a rental at best, rather than a buy.

Definately a Rental

Overall the game play is good, but towards the middle it gets repetative. The variety of weapons is a plus and I could play around with the disarms all day. If you like the arcade style shoot-em up then this is the game for you, but if you are a fan of the engrossing storyline you better file this game under your rental section.
