Gets a little repetetive

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 3

This is ausome at what it does. If you liked Max Payne you'll love this. You get to shoot whilst holding a weapon in each hand, slow mo dives, you can use your dog to charge at your enemies. There's some great hand to hand combat with disarming(getting gun of enemy)an enemy being the best. Push something like square and circle you'll automaticly do an ausome move.

There's the odd mini game such as dissarming bombs, pick locking and there's a Metal Gear like torture scene.

Mixed bag of tricks.

The reviewer who compared this game to Time Crisis without the gun is right on. When you shoot enemies, despite the options available to you, the best way to get through them all is to mash the buttons as quickly as you can. The lock-on feature is handy, but it makes it too easy to target enemies and the big colorful triangles zooming everywhere take away from the setting of the game. You may be in a nightclub or in a dark tunnel but you'll still have bright red and green targeting reticules zipping everywhere.

If that's all there was to it I would have given the name 2 stars. The shooting is fun, and there are lots of different weapons and a slow motion feature stolen from Max Payne. Unfortunately the slow motion is only activated when you dive, and stops as soon as you hit the floor. This means the uses are limited, because it's hard to aim at lots of enemies when you can only shoot in one direction. Max Payne is far more fluid.

Yet the game has lots of little additions. The disarms are one of the best, and really the big attraction for me. What that says about my state of mind I don't know, but I have never seen a game where you were able to take an enemy's gun away and break some bones in the process. The only problem is, this makes the game a little too easy. Why bother shooting a bad guy five times when you can just saunter up to him and press O? This is even possible in large groups because during the disarm process you are invulnerable.

However, the game also contains a pretty nice combat system. Combos are possible, using the X and [] buttons, and you can also dodge and throw enemies. They will try to throw you as well, and it's possible to break their through. This beats Max Payne's flailing-the-baseball-bat by far. In fact, it's so fun that I often ignore the guns and just run around taking everyone on without weapons.

Being able to control the dog adds another element, although these are limited. The sub-games are an interesting addition. Most of them are quite easy, although I became very frustrated with the prison gym games until I realised it wasn't necessary to complete every one of them to continue. I couldn't beat the weight-lifting challenge and swore at the screen for some time before I decided to give it up and go explore the prison some more...

All in all, though Max Payne is far better than this game.. It has enough things going on, and the graphics are very smooth and detailed.

Definitely worth owning

This game is a lot of fun. This game is about a cop who is on deathrow for killing the man who supposedly killed his father. The best thing about this game are the weapons. You get a lot of different weapons, and you can even sik your dog on people. You can use people as shields, and shoot them in the head as soon as you're done with them. The levels are strategically complex at times, which is good because you have to use your brain for a change, it's not all just bloods and guts. Oh, another thing about this game is that there are live strippers! LOL. Who ever made this game had a huge imagination. This game reminds me of Silvester Stallone movies like Lock Down and Tango and Cash. Of course, I'm referring to the prison chapters of the game, where you have to fist fight muscle-bound thugs. It's funny how some prisoners come to you for protection...Everyone, you owe it to yourself to add this game to your collection.

I have to say that this game is a little slow in the beginning, and you might think that there treating you like your a big baby and you don't no how to use a Game Cube controller
(No Offence To Beginners or children under the age of 13). It might [make you mad]; they will be treating you like a big baby through out the first chapter. Later on in the game it gets a little bit more challenging and a bit more exciting. This game is basicly for people that like shooting and street fighting.

P.S. If you would like 2 spice the game up a bit; try 2 beat it with out using the R button 2 Aim.

Jack Makes Baddies D.O.A.

Dead to Rights is pretty much dead on at delivering an action game which follows the almost cookie cutter type of storyline for this genre of game while introducing some innovations, some being successful and some not so successful.
The player takes on the role of Jack Slate who is a cop in Grant City who is hurled into an intricate web of crime and deception after he arrives on the scene of his father's murder. His investigation leads him to various locales ranging from Chinatown to the cages of prison, while leaving a trail of dead bodies in his wake of course. Normally each of the different locales involves some sort of special objective to break up the constant running gun battles. Some of the objectives involve controlling Jack's dog Shadow who will sniff out bombs, others involve shooting from a helicopter to take out getaway cars.
Overall, the innovations are pretty good for this genre. One of the best innovations is the ability to grab bad guys and turn them into human shields in the heat of combat. Another nice innovation is the ability to disarm the bad guys once your piece is out of ammo and take away the stiff's iron. The one innovation in this game which is abysmal is the addition of hand to hand combat. I'm sorry, I want to be blazing away at the bad guys, not dealing with an unresponsive fight system which is cumbersome and boring to watch.
The graphics are fairly good throughout the game, although some of the locales definitely need some sprucing up in terms of detail. All of the character models are pretty good, but sometimes there are some problems with collision detection (but this is minor and doesn't affect the game at all from a control perspective).
All in all, this is a pretty decent game and I highly recommend getting it if you're a fan of Max Payne and this type of action/crime genre.

This game is very good. There are lots of thing in it like we can dive slow motion and kill the enemy nearby and we can gunpoint the enemy and we can also call our dog shadow to kill the enemy and many more things we can do in it.

One of the worst games ever created

I remember buying this game and thinking, "this is going to be another cool shooting game, kinda like Max Payne." Well, I was completely wrong on both accounts. This game is terrible, and it is NOTHING like Max Payne. The graphics are some of the worst I have ever seen in a video game, even for the time period that this game came out in. The controls are also some of the worst I have ever encountered. The worst part of this game, however, is the plot/gameplay. In short - there is no plot. This guy just runs around killing things while his stupid pet does dumb tricks that a real dog would never do.

This game is a cheap knockoff of Max Payne, and it performs poorly. I would recommend sticking your head in the toilet over buying this game. At least you can take a shower afterwards.

It is a good game until u beat it... i suggest renting it..

This is a pretty good game. You pick up weapons every 3 seconds and kill a ton of guys. It can be fun, but it gets repetitive. It will really hurt your hands too considering you have to click a dozen times to do stuff. If you don't want to hurt your hands, run up to guys and use the disarm techniques.
