Have to say I'm looking forward to this game. My PS2 is actually going to have 480P on my digital TV, that with 60fps and I'm a happy camper. And the lighting on this game looks incredible.

It Gets Boring after a while

Burnout 2 is ok. It gets really boring after you played it 20 times. All you do is crash cars and race. Its grafics are ok. There not the best. You should rent it or borrow it from somebody its not worth 20 dollars.

Burnout 2 is it lame or is it a point of impact on the PS2?

Finally it was the day of Burnout 2 release for the playstation 2 and I went to the mall and bought it immediately as they put it on the shelf brand new for 50 bucks. I brought it home and completely tore the plastic wrapping off of it. Then I opened it and popped my Burnout 2 into the Playstation 2. I waited for it to load up then I played it for a few hours and then for days and now here I am still playing the thing! Burnout 2 is straight up fun! It's a game in it's own league. It's not meant to be racing game at all actually. It is meant to be a game for looks of it's great crashes and crash simulations. What ofcourse bugged me the most was when I was in a race and I did hit something, the game reset my car damage and everything and I am a guy who likes a car game that has a ton of car damage showing (for example stuntman is the king of car damage). So lets break this game down in a classical 5 point rate system . . .

Gameplay - The gameplay deserves a perfect 10 even though I wish it featured more game modes and more fun crashing levels that I could of played. Or you know what would have been sweet maybe where you could set up your won crash scene (*Hint hint for maybe another sequal? hint Hint*). The game itself is stunning becuase it's unique. I mean what other game do you know of (beside burnout one) is designed mainly for flashy crashes and the most realistic simulated crashes ever!

Graphics - The graphics get a perfect 10 as well! The graphics were sweet. You couldn't ask for better graphics on the PS2. The game was at it's all time high because of it's graphics. We all know the graphics make the game! Nice solid graphics are what everyone wants to see and Burnout 2 can deliver on that!

sound - Sound gets an 8 becuase at some point, the game gets really annoying because of it's sound. For example in the crash mode, when you crash you hear the sound of nothing but alot of car horns and it does nothing but annoy you and there is no soundtrack that you could actually call a song or even entertaining, but still I rated sound pretty high because the car sounds were pretty solid (Except for all that friggin' horns).

Controls - the controls I am going to give a 9 because controls made the absolute difference when it came to the crash mode. I mean for example the one with all the RTA buses at the begging and so on, you had to hit that just right because if you didn't you would mess it all up. You would of had to turn just right to hit the first car which would make you spinout into the air and hit the buses airbourne and then you were able to also hit other automobiles infront of the buses as well, but still the fun crashes were really why I bought the game so that wasn't a bother for me.

Overall - This game is for some, but not for all. It's a unique game and some might feel different than others. some like the game and then some people absolutely hate it for one little thing. Either way, I would rent it before you buy it just in case. I didn't rent it though, I bought it when it came out because that was my decision. Rent it and if ya like it, buy it.

This game is going to kill the racing market. All the magazine previews are saying that Burnout 2 is going to be fantastic and I can't wait to play it.

I bought this game recently and I love it. The gameplay is great and the graphics almost couldn't get any better. I have played the first Burnout and I thought that was fun so I said "oh heck why don't I buy it." Am am more than glad I did. To anybody who is considering buying this game I would strongly suggest it.

For automotive hooligans

This is a game you can play repeatedly if you like all things automotive. I put hooligans in the title because the faint of heart will find the vivid crashes and powersliding a bit disturbing. The audio effects are very good and the sound of the 'boost' feature will get "Fast and Furious" fans in a froth. The graphics are very pleasing with wonderful camera angles and lighting effects. The game play is just right. There is effective use of AI to keep the game from getting tedious. The only thing they could do to improve this game would be to put licensed vehicles in it.

Already a forgotten gem?

Forget outrun, ridge racer, need for speed and every other arcade racing game ever made because burnout 2 is better than them all.

This is the best arcade racing game ever made.

Fast, addictive and FUN!

The game I really wanted was Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 because I loved the PS1 version of that game (and still do). But I was so disappointed in NFS-HP2 that I traded it in for Burnout 2, and it was the best decision I could have made: Burnout 2 is arcade racing at its finest.

No it's not perfect, but it's perfect enough because it's pure fun. I envy those of you who have XBox or GameCube because this game will be even better on those systems due to more levels in the "CRASH" mode -- which just might be the best part of the game.

Unless you're a die-hard fanatic for simulation racing (not me -- too tedious!), you will be glad to make this game part of your collection. You can just pick it up, play it for awhile and put it down...well, MAYBE you can put it down because it's VERY addictive. I'm always thinking, "I gotta give that one more shot before I go to bed..." and before I realize it, it's 1:30 a.m.

In the end, it's the crashes

Burnout seemed like they were onto something but they didn't do such a thorough job on it. It was a glorified PS1 game.

Burnout 2 is the answer, a much more expansive game. There are more cars, more races, more boards, etc.

Then there's the crashes. They were very nice on the first installment. But here they are not only given total makeovers with an incredible slow-mo cam and detailed car damage but are also given their own mode in the game. You can play Crash Mode and forget the race, just follow a simple route into traffic and try to wrack up the most damage. There are 15 boards and this becomes a seriously fun game for multiple players. Anyone can try as you basically try to crash your car at one particular angle or another to cash serious oil tanker spilling, log truck rolling, city bus sliding chaos. The crashes have tires flying at the camera, trunks being flung off cliffs (follow by trucks, etc.) The only thing that's missing from this are the bodies flying through the windshields, bouncing off other cars and sliding across the pavement. That's just my opinion.

By now I'm sure you could get this used for a steal, but I would even recommend just picking it up for the high 2P replay value.
