Through TV shows, DVD's, comics, novels, and even action figures - I have followed Buffy where e'er she has led. This is a TV show that has become a whole genre all by itself. Now I find myself with game console in hand, dusting vampires and conquering evil with the Sunnydale 'dream team.' I have to admit, it was a bit of fun.
My computer/console game preferences are almost entirely for RPG's and pure adventures, which I've played since there was such a thing. I'm not entirely comfortable in the venue of the pure 'action' game, especially since my coordination has always left something to be desired. But, to be frank, this was a pretty positive experience - once I got over being hammer to death repeatedly by growling fiends.
Part of this is due to the familiar characters and a good story line. More relevant is that the game is quite playable by people like me, even though it also offers all kinds of violent variations for those who love complicated moves. All the bosses are beatable, once you find the right trick. And only a few of the puzzles are so outré that the solution seems to appear by magic.
In many games, the characters are pure violence machines. This isn't the case here as each of the played personae has distinct characteristics and a lot of chit chat. And to fill out the bill there are a whole set of interviews as 'extras' that you can see if you play the game through. Even by my biased standards, this is a topnotch job.
Buffy is back in a kick ass Buffy game.

Just got the game today. I had gotten the comic several months ago but totally forgot there was going to be a game. I am glad that I found it though.
I have played only one level as of now but I already know that it rocks. The story line starts off like a Buffy episode and has got that feel to it as well.
The in game cinematics looks really good and the actors resemblance is striking. I really like Willow, to me she looks gorgeous. But Buffy looks just like the real deal. I have not seen Faith yet but I am sure she looks great too.
Sadly Sarah Michelle and Alyson Hannigan have not provided their voices for the game. But their replacements are good. Giselle Loren makes a very good Buffy. Not as good as Sarah but as perfect as you can get from a different person.
I had read in a review that Alyson's stand-in was awful but she sounds ok to me. Granted, it does not sound 100% like Willow but I have played game in which the stand-in actors did not even remotely sound like the real actor so that is no big deal to me.
The graphics of the game are good. The characters look good in the game as well and that is what matters most. The game looks really good.
Controlwise it is nicely done. The moves are easy to perform and according to the manual there are lots of them. Each character has her/his own moves and strong and weak points adding real depth to the game.
The camera does not follow you automatically but you can steer it using the right analogue stick which is just as good. That way you can choose which way the camera should look. Shoddy camera's can be a huge pain with these games so this was a great option.
And last but not least, the characters make hilarious one-liners. They may be repetative but I have not played enough of the game to know this yet. In any case, I do not mind since that is the case with almost every game which uses voice clips.
The comments are really funny such as Xander commenting that he makes dusting vampires more rewarding by pretending that they are all Spike.
In closing, I feel that for any Buffy fan this game is a great buy. Non-Buffy fans may not like it as much but that is always the case with games based on a tv show or movie. But unlike most of those games this game is not purely made to make more money off a popular franchise. No, it is really good and you should at least give it a try.

not having an xbox i was waiting for a buffy game that i could play. boy was i relieved when 'chaos bleeds' was released. when i bought it i really didn't care it was buffy-related and i could be spike. that was incentive enough for me. after starting the game, i was sucked in real quick and wrapped myself up in the story like it was an episode of buffy. the writing is superb and as well is the voice acting. at first listening you'll notice that it isn't alyson hannigan voice when willow speaks but within moments you'll completely forget. also, the voice for buffy is dead on with smg except for one second when she says tara wrong...but its all good.
the controls are tight. when you're playing as either buffy or faith, you can bring up a slayer handbook with alott of combos that might take a while to memorize. willow also has a spell guide that you can call up to learn a spell. also, willow learns spells when tara periodically tells what to do. the camera is kinda off but its definitely one of the best for a 3rd person game that you can rotate it around and see any direction you want. but its kinda hard to do that in a tight space.
the surroundings are fantastic and resemble their actual locations in the buffyverse. also, one of the funny things in the game is in the movie theater in the sunnydale level. you'll see posters for fight club, aliens, alien resurrection and so on. the levels are huge and the tasks hard if you don't know what to do and for first time players most of the levels might take well within 90minutes or so. each character has their own strengths as well as weaknesses but the majority of them show no weakness. the only 2 might be xander & willow. xander being the norm of the group but he handles just fine. willow doesn't kick at all. she punches and does magic. as for the magic most of the time you'll call up the fireball, sunspell and homing missile [well i do].
the multiplayer is sweet. it has about 20 characters or so. you start off with 4 characters and one level to play with. as you progress through the game, you'll find secrets and unlock levels and players. one of the gripes i have is the lack of multiplayer levels and the femal vampire isn't the one wearing plaid pants. but those are all minor gripes here.
the game is solid. it'll suck you in if you're a hardcore buffy fan. all in all, its one of the best games i've ever played. i hope they can continue this tradition and make another.

This game is really addicting. The voice acting is great, animations good, interesting story, and spot on Buffy action. If you are a fan of the show, get this game. If you're not, become one and get this game.
I'm sure there are a lot of flaws in it, but they are really hard to see because the pure enjoyment value of the game is too hard to see past.
I haven't had any glitches in it, I don't know about other people though. It runs smoothly, with an occasional drag. The only time you will have to stare at loading screens is before the main menue and when you're loading a level. The level areas are huge, with secrets a plenty. You'll find yourself spending over an hour on a single level just because it is so big and you feel compelled to explore everywhere.
Some missions require backtracking, but that's ok because the forces of evil are quick to repopulate and you will never find yourself without a fight. That's not to say that its hard, but its not easy either. Since the levels are so massive, I reccomend the strategy guide by Prima Games to go with your game.
You get to play as many of the favorite Buffy characters from the whole series, and those you don't get to be will probably make an apperance. Playable characters include Buffy, Willow, Xander, Faith, and Spike. Each character gets their own mission, and they will be playable in a few other missions. There isn't much of a difference in characters except for Willow. She's the witch, so she has all the spells. Once you finish her mission, you will be an unstopable distructive force. Spike and Xander have many similarities, mostly moves. Buffy and Faith also have the same moveset, with over 100 moves that they can unleash on the forces of evil.
If you're not convinced yet, you should jump on the oppertunity to play with or against a friend. There is a special game mode in which you can battle a friend or three using unlocable characters. This feature has some good qualities, but is the weaker point of the game. That's not to say that anyone won't completly enjoy beating their friends into a pulp with the pitifully pathetic zombie.
Bottom Line: Get this game. Its as simple as that.
Surprisingly good

Usually most times a video game is made that is based off a popular license, it ends up being a lackluster game that tries to cash in on it's license (see the Enter the Matrix video game for an example). Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds is a surprisingly good game that manages to do it's license justice, and fans of the show will definitely have to check this out. Throughout different sections and levels in the game, you'll be able to play as Buffy, Xander, Willow, Spike, and even rogue slayer Faith and even Sid the Dummy. This is a welcome feature that is great to have because it spices up the gameplay; each character manuvers and fights different from each other minus a few similarities, also, Willow has a hefty list of magic spells which do the show justice. The graphics are fairly solid, although Buffy's character model hardly resembles Sarah Michelle Gellar. Speaking of which, just like she did on an earlier Buffy title on the XBox, Gellar doesn't bother to lend her voice to her character, nor does Alyson Hannigan as Willow. The rest of the cast from the show, including Nicholas Brendon (Xander), James Marsters (Spike), Amber Benson (Tara), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), and Eliza Dushku (Faith) are all here and are great in they're voice over work. The game's musical score is taken right from the show and is great to hear as well. The only real problem with Buffy is sometimes the action can get repetitive and that there is noticeable slowdown when there is a lot of on screen action, but that doesn't really hurt the overall package. All in all, Chaos Bleeds is a surprisingly good game that does the Buffy the Vampire Slayer license justice.
Perfect!

My new faveorite game (although I may be biased). It really does put you into the show, and the gameplay is fun! The moves are awsome, and the variation from character to character is exciting. The story is really great! The extra DVD content and multiplayer are very delicious icing on the cake! Only bad thing is there isn't enough save points, but it's too fun to get away from anyway!
Incredible Game!

I bought this game September 14th and I was completely amazed by it. The game has very good graphics and the voiceovers are very well done. Improvements in this game from the first one are the fighting engine and the fighting style. In the first game, you would have to have a vampire near death to finally stake him, but in this game, all you have to do is kick him until he is on the ground and stake him, he or she could even have full life. The staking effect is much more cool in this game. It looks exactly like it would in the real TV show. Ok, yeah the camera is a little frustrating, but is not enough to bring the rating down a star! This game has one more level than the first game and the levels are much more longer, and there are a higher quantity of puzzles in the game that are NOT difficult! I am 13 years old and I was able to figure out all the puzzles without looking for a walkthrough on the net! Also, it helps if you played the first game because some of the puzzles are taken from the first game, like taking a fire candle holder and placing it in another room to unlock a door!
On the voice-overs: actors and actresses from the TV show that portray their voices in this game include: Amber Benson as Tara, Nicholas Brendon as Xander, Anthony Stewart Head as Giles, James Marsters as Spike, Robin Sachs as Ethan Rayne (from Buffy episodes: "Halloween" "The Dark Age" "Band Candy" and "A New Man") and the lovely Eliza Dushku as Faith! You get to play as all of them except Ethan. All of the actor's voice-overs are very good, and the Buffy double Giselle Loren (also in the first game as Buffy) sounds decent as Buffy, but not as good as the first game. The voice double for Willow has good intentions to imitate Alyson but falls short and sounds poor (but a + is that Willow looks much better than she did in the first game) the only voice that is not up to par and extremely unsatisfying is the Anya voice-double (who sounds nothing like Emma Caulfield) Anyone could have done the voice better.
The last 6 levels of the game present boss battles, where you have to face a villain at the end of the level, and they are very difficult, but not impossible. You just have to figure out their weaknesses. (Also, it is irritating how this game doesn't present an inventory screen like the first one) Sometimes you die because you are getting pummeled and you cannot get a medi-pack with the D-pad.
From all this, I think the game deserves a four star rating, but I gave it 5 because all of the problems I encountered are things that are being compared to the first game, and this game shouldn't be compared, it's wrong how this game is being billed as a sequel to part 1 because it is not a sequel, it's a stand-alone adventure, and both part 1 and 2 games should stand on their own , because they both have little problems but are still incredible games!!
Overall rating of this game: 9/10

I just started watching Buffy a few months ago, but have managed to watch every single episode. I then heard that a Buffy game was to be released on X-Box, Gamecube, and Playstation 2. After buying the game on Gamecube, I was not disappointed. The graphics are amazing, the controls are very easy to use, the storyline's great, and for fans of the show there are interviews with the cast. You can play as Buffy (slayer), Faith (evil slayer), Willow (witch), Xander (he's funny), Sid (he's a dummy), and Spike (vampire). Some weapons in the game are holy water, hellfire, shovels, stakes, swords, battle axes, crossbows, and water guns filled with holy water. I'm not a very huge fan of fighting games, but this game really grabbed me. Some levels contain bosses, and you'll notice some villains (and ex-librarians/watchers) were made into bosses. This game is definitely a must-have for all fans of the action genre, as well as fans of Buffy.

I got this game because I was missing the show, seen all the re-runs, and wanted something different. The game is pretty easy to pick up and learn. The fighting is great, and has some minor puzzle solving as well. The dialogue is similar to the show but can be a little over the top, like when you're in Sunnydale Mall as Willow and you find the cooking oil and she says "Mmm, cooking oil. I sure wish Tara were here." Makes you think. My major complaint about the game is the inventory system. This is a major pain when you're in a fight scene, and looking for a weapon, and you have to run around until you equip your weapon. Why couldn't the have a pause feature that brings up a weapons menu (i.e. - Tomb Raider). This is the only downfall. The games give you plenty of weapons that you will rarely use, like Holy Water, Hellfire, and the Crossbows because they cannot be used easily. Mainly, I just stayed with using shovels, and pitchforks that you find in different arenas, and finishing off with a stake. One little trick I found was that if you open a door and vampires ambush you, just stand behind the doorway a bit and you can throw hellfire and holy water or use guns at the vampires. For some reason, they won't come into another room, but this is not always the case. I just finished the game and I liked it. Storyline was compelling and it was fun to play. Some puzzle solving, but not too difficult. Overall, I liked it. I doubt a Buffy fan would be disappointed in this game.

Well it was a different company that made this game, so that is probably the answer. Let me say i am not a Buffy fan but i bought and loved the 1st game. So i bought Chaos Bleeds on the first day of release. This one is simply not as good as the first game. I really don't know where to begin ...The graphics overall are as good as the first. Not bad but not great. The Fighting is very frustrating, You'll find yourself Punching and kicking at air half the time even with the lock on ..which really doesn't lock on anyways. That was some what of a problem in the first game but for this one it is 10 times worse. Weapons? There is no use for them here, The crossbow which worked so well in The first game is useless. If you played the first game you know how cool it was to be able to act like a sniper and target a Vampire. In this one there is no chance to do that. Remember the Hell-fire and Holly water soaker in the first game? They're back..But useless. All you really need is your stake. ..Which BTW you can't Throw like in the first game. The game itself is Harder then the first but not in a good way. For example the Mall level where you play Willow. They throw so many Vampires at you it's ridiculous. You kill 3 then try and solve a puzzle ..here come 3 more kill them..Here come 3 more. back to trying to solve...nope here come 3 more..etc. And going back to the fighting system. It's no fun to be attacked by 3 Vamps, Have your punch go through one, while another grabs you from behind throws you to the ground then the other stomps you while your character takes forever to get up. Which leads me to another bad thing. When you're in the heat of it your character is Very slow to respond to the actions you give them. There's at least a half second delay, Which in this type of game is a major problem and turns it in to a button masher game at times. This is getting a bit long so let me end with what is the worst part of the game. The save system. Yes they have check points but they do not save to your memory card. You Must finish the WHOLE level to save. ANd the Levels can seem to go on FOREVER. It's like going from point A to point B to point C back to Point A over to point D back to point B Etc.. if you want to catch a quick game before school or work forget it Unless you finish the level you'll have to play the part you finished Over. It's by no means the worst game but Not worth the $ or frustration. If you have no problem with $ and have ALOT of patience then go for it.
