Not quite what I expected

I bought this game to trial it for my cousin, who is around eight years old. The menus are simple enough. Barbie's voice is quite annoying and I was disappointed when I found out that you can't mute her. On to the game play...

No sooner than I started playing the game, it annoyed the heck out of me. You can't ride where you want to...the horse's movements are choppy and incorrect. You cannot name your horse. You have to pick a name on a list. There is nothing realistic about the actual riding experience, if you can call it that. A horse has more than two gaits of movement. The ones in the game, the canter and the gallop, are awkward, at best. And Barbie stops you every so often to make you look at animals or to do an activity. And then you have to stop riding at dusk where the trail ends into nothingness. Even grooming the horse, in this game, is ridiculous. The horse does not respond...maybe an occasional head nod...and you only clean and brush one side of the horse. What about picking out the hooves and combing away the burls and knots that are constantly in a real horse's coat, mane and tail. The pamplet that comes with the game says you can feed your horse but what about what comes out of the other end? Yeah...I know it's a kids game...but a horse is a horse...the manure does not just disappear.

All in all, this game was a MAJOR disappointment.

I'd rather watch Dragenball Z running backwards than play this game! There's a story, but it's stupid-- not borring stupid or funny stupid--just plane old box-of-rock stupid! Let's skip it, ok? Gameplay consists of Barbie collecting coins, opening chests, and useing her cell phone in the woods. And it's about as fun as it sounds. The thing that realy draws you out of the experience though is the fact that Barbie talks to you. This ruins the sense that you are the on-screen character. I gave it 1 star only because I couldn't give it 0 stars. And if you buy it you'll just be putting more money into the Barbie doll company's bank account.

If you want a cute game for girls, get Mario Kart, not this

The title says it all. Obviously, this game was made for little girls, but there's better games out there that might appeal to girls without insulting their intelligence.

I'm actually exaggerating a bit, this game is not nearly as bad as it could have been. Most of the gameplay is built on riding your horse, which borrows a lot from the Zelda 64 riding engine. Once you get off your horse though to look for runaway horses, watch out. Barbie is slow on her feet and can't run, which can get very annoying. There are also side activities, like unlocking outfits and washing your horse, which is as rudimentary as using the cursor brush to move over a horse.

But overall this game sucks. If you want to buy a game for your sister/daughter/niece, get her a real game with quality gameplay, like Mario Kart: Double Dash or Super Monkey Ball.

It's a snooze fest.

It's not fun at all. I'm 7 years old, Believe me all you do is ride around on a horse and jump over stuff. I mean really what's fun about that?

gentle fun

My granddaughter and I both love playing this game. I bought her one last year and we play it so much I bought one to keep at my house so we can both play it here also. You can change Barbies and her steeds appearance. Play several fun games that vary from races against the clock to races against other riders. I love exploring all the different terrain, my favorite is the beach. There are a few scary momments with bears, moose and even bunnies, but the challenges are fun. Collecting coins, treasure chest and other goodies along the way adds reward, finding the foals and returning them safe makes you feel good and catching the wild horses is a great adventure. I recommend this game for good gentle fun.

Mindless fun for a while...no learning benefit

This game is basically based upon mindless fun. The only thing to learn is the controls of the game, then you just ride around for a few hours and rescue foals and horses. So, it's fun for a while if you simply want to relax and not think. But if you want your kids to actually learn something while they're ruining their eyes infront of the TV, I'd buy a different game.

Now onto the horse critique...
Havas Interactive actually did an amazing job with the horses. Sure, their conformation may not be perfect, but they DO have all the true movments of a real horse. Someone said they only canter and gallop, but they're wrong. The horses can walk, trot, canter, and gallop (I would know, I own a horse in real life)
if you use the right controls. And the horses rear, preform a turn on the haunches, halt, and back up.

I suppose this is a pretty good barbie game, but Havas Interactive really should give kids 7+ (recommened playing age on case) more credit, they aren't stupid...and they only supplied about two puzzles in the game (making your way through a VERY simple maze to get a foal, etc)

Too easy

The Barbie Adventures game was okay in the beginning but Barbie does walk like a snail!!!!!! And even though you cross the finish line first, they still tell you you Lost!!!!!!!!!!!!! And The rescueing foals thing gets REALLY boring after a while.

I hate it ;my daughter loves it!

I bought this game for my 3 year old daughter, she loves it. Once she figured out how to use some of the controls and actually interact with the game it was hard to get her to stop playing it.

The big problem is that she still can't control the entire game, so she needs you to sit with her. She is about 1 year to young for this game. This forces you to sit through Barbie for long periods of time! The other problem is that when she is playing; I can't play any of my other games. Consider buying a seperate system if you love playing games and are giving this to your daughter.

I'm glad I got the game because she loves it and will play for very long periods of time. What girl doesn't love barbie, horse and new clothes? All three are part of the game. I would never buy this game for a boy.

I imagine she'll be playing this for a few years since she enjoys it so much.

Fun!

Ok, I'm 13 years old and I still "play" with barbie horses. As a horse lover major I had to try this out. As my birthday I go to go on a shopoing spree and I went strait to the horse isle. I found this game and tryed it out. I had to admit it was fun! I loved to play this game even if I have to play it on my brother's ps2. It is really fun and I think lotdss of girls of any age would have lots of fun. It doesn't atter what charecter you play it matters only if you have fun! in this case I did.
