10000 times too hard!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 141 / 198

First off I would like to say that I have been a fan of Tomb Raider since the beginning and have bought all the series of games. My only problem with the series was the desire of the designers to make the game absolutely impossible to complete without the requirement of buying a cheat book. I thought that with this TR4 that the designers were attempting to fix this and make the game FUN and not just plain IMPOSSIBLE to beat. Well I was WRONG! This game is absolutely impossible to defeat without a Cheat Guide. Don't even think about buying this game unless you also want to just go ahead and buy the guide. Therefore I do not recommend this game.

Give it a chance

This game may seem more difficult at first. However, once you learn the new moves and game logic the game becomes much more rewarding. The graphics are very good, the plot is better than previous titles and the game pace moves along comfortably once you learn the system. This game is the equal of any of the best exploration adventure games on the market.

The best since the first

This is by far the best Tomb Raider since the first one. If you loved the first one and were disapointed by the next two this one is much better. Tomb Raider: The Last Revalation brings back the magic of the first Tomb Raider

Waste of Money

I caught on to the fervor, and succumbed to the advertising blitz for this game. I was very disappointed. The graphics are good, but that should be expected for a game in 1999, when considering other 1st/3rd person games like Half-Life or Unreal. With a half-decent plot, this game could have been better, but the steep learning curve and secrets too subtle to be found without a guide turned me off immediately. I uninstalled it today and am back to playing Broodwars, out 40 bucks. Learn from my mistake and avoid this "game."

Too Hard? Then your not a gamer..

I agree, the first 30 minutes of the game is rather tough, but that is just becuase some of her moves are new and the play isn't all about pushing and pulling objects...you have to think this time out. I have finished the first 3 and I think this one is the best since the first...all except for it's lighting. You will prolly have to turn the bright level on your tv up, unless you want to walk around with Flares all day. This game was a must buy for me and I am enjoying every penny of it. It has grabbed my attention away from resident evil:3...so you know its good!

Did I mention that you get to play as a teenage Lora? Just that open sequence is worth the money!

I have been a big fan of the Tomb Raider series and this is the best one yet. Yes like the others buying the guide is a must, but the games I like the most are the ones that require some thought. I will usually go back to those games again, and again, because I am less likely to get bored with them. In this one I find as I go along that I need the guide less and less. There is a learning curve in the game that makes it more fun then the past Tomb Raiders. Of course the graphics are wonderful and I like the darkly lit areas, they help make the game more suspensfull

Fun and frustrating

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation is a lavishy designed game. The game starts out from 16 year old Lara. The game is based on real places in Egypt. The graphics are great. The A.I are also more intelligent. After every stage there is a great movie to watch...it's like watching the " Mummy " ! In the game , Lara awakes Set and now must savethe world before the year 2000. Many interesting puzzles with one mistake: While solving these puzzles you may have to go to the previous stage to push a button or something...this makes it so frustrating...you will never know when the levels ends ! And I agree, this game is impossible to complete without a guide or cheat codes...but still the storyline is great...Get it to celebrate the closing of 1,000 years !

the worst game of 1999

This game was a major disappointment. Not only are the graphics and sound mediocre, but most importantly, the gameplay and control are some of the worst I have ever seen. Poor control the first time around was ok in the original Tomb Raider, and poor control for the second time was accpetable in Tomb Raider 2. Poor control for the third time in Tomb Raider 3 is unacceptable, and is even more pathetic for the FOURTH TIME in this latest installment. It is quite frustrating to get stuck on one of the starter levels because you cannot make a simple jump because the controls are so sluggish. I thought that after three years, Eidos would have addressed these issues and fix this problem, but they have not done anything to help the situation at all. The game also suffers from poor camera angles. When I play games, I like to actually see where I am going and what I am doing. This is often not the case in Tomb Raider 4. This game offers nothing that the original didn't, except for the extra 30 bucks you have to pay to get it. This is the most disappointing game I have purchased this year. If you are in the market for an adventure game, get Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. That game is far from perfect as well, but at least your character actually responds to your commands.

very cool game

You know what, I don't have this game, but I played it at my sisters house. I wish they had it for Macs! I know I would get it. Anyway, it is hard, and it's definetly not for maybe 11 and under. As you can probably tell, you do have to kill things in it. So if you're a protective parent, I don't reccomend you get this for your child. But I watch my brother-in-law play it and he's very good!

The Adventure Continues

I love these games. I love the detail that the creators put into the bit maps. The level designs have always been detailed and deluxe. I think the animals are the best in any computer game ever. I love the way the solution to the puzzles is not always to open the door, but often to enter through a hole in the roof, or a crack in the foundation, or to climb a statue. (I think park rangers must hate these games.) And this is all true of all the Tomb Raider games. The most common complaint is that TR IV is the same as TR I with a few added features. Fine with me. I loved Tomb Raider, and so far, I love the latest one. And after all, Tony Hillerman, for example, keeps churning out his Chee and Leaphorn books, and people don't say "Gee, why doesn't he do one with Chee fighting Aliens". My only complaint, if I have one, is that I enjoyed the globe hopping aspect of the earlier games, and I was a little disappointed to hear that part IV takes place only in Egypt. But it is a gorgeous version of Egypt and I'm going to be sad when this one ends.
