Tom Clancy video game

I don't know much about games, this was purchased for a family member. But they seem pleased. And I was pleased with the quality of transaction and delivery.

Great ideas, [poor] graphics

I love what Ghost Recon wants to be--a thoroughly realistic military simulation first person shooter. But the graphics (particularly for environment) are unacceptably poor, even archaic by most standards. heavy pixelation, poorly designed and applied textures, and chunky modelling blend to form a GUI that is both tiresome to look at and difficult to use. Which is sad because this game should be the standard for realism by which other FPS games are judged. Instead, it's hard to take it seriously.

Far more challenging than Rainbow 6/Rogue Spear

An excellent game, very challenging, and very unforgiving of player mistakes! Although there are a few minor bugs associated with walls and terrain, there aren't as many of such compared to say Rainbow 6.

You'll like GR

If you've never played any of the Tom Clancy games like this one before, you might get a little frusterated playing online. One shot, one kill. After playing the single player, I jumped online and spent a lot of time getting killed in the first few secs. You have to look for online enemy targets more cause other ppl will see you from quite a ways away and nail you if you're not watching, but your eyes will grow more intune to finding them. I've grown to love this game more--about 1 1/2 years now and still have fun playing the single player missions over again...the most fun is at the hardest level.

There is a lot to learn when first starting out if all you've played are games like Quake or UT, but this game is tons of fun and highly competitive online. Most players online are good, and the online troublemakers( FF) get booted soon. I almost got booted my first couple of games cause I opened fire on my online team mates by accident...best to use the reticle that displays the team members name( don't use the gunsight color changes when on friendly as it takes too long to tell if it's a team member or not.)

This game would be the absolute best game of this type online right now if it had better graphics like some of the other newer games out there. Riding in vehicles would be a plus too...BF1942 is a fun fast paced game cause you have so many vehicles and planes you can jump in, but for realism, Ghost Recon is way better.

The best Tom Clancy has to offer!

I'll have to agree with Nathan Alterton on this one. Everything he stated in his review is right on the money. There is only one thing about Ghost Recon, that just ticks me off! And that's the Artificial Intelligence. Oh sure the Enemy AI is by far the best I've seen yet. But the AI of your fellow soldiers is not something suited for military personel. Ghost Recon has your soldiers acting more like a rookie fresh out of a paintball academy, than one who has spent years perfecting their skills. Usually they will only engage an enemy after they're shot at first, which usually kills a team member in the process. But that being the only flaw I can find in Ghost Recon, it sure would be nice to see an improvement in the Expansion Pack.

And the on-line play, JUST AMAZING! The enviroments make for a great experience going up against some of the greatest GR players. The action is intense and it really gets your adrenaline pumping! The only down side is the UBI server that it runs off of. I suggest playing through IP or using the All-Seeing Eye rather than UBI. UBI tends to crash alot, and also gives bad ping to players with a cable connection or better. I have a 56K modem, and sometimes my ping is better than someone with a T1 connection. But you should really try it out, it's a blast! Ghost Recon is definitely a game that is well worth your time and money!

Best Game Ever

This game is the real thing when you get shot you're dead on the spot. This isn't a phony James Bond game. The scenery and sound is life-like.

Awesome game, a challenge

This game is one of the best I have ever played!!!! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants it. Buy this game!!!! The graphics are great, the sounds better, and the default controls are good too! Also it has good replay value!
There are a few problems though. For one sometimes (rarely) your men will walk in front of each other and kill themselves. Also the grenades dont work very well. But I still recommend it!

Played all the way through......twice!

Wow. This is definitely the best FPS I've ever played. Realism, free-roaming, accurate weapon depictions (I love the OICW). Can't wait for the expansion(s).
Just one question. Hasn't the Army ever heard of a semiautomatic sniper rifle?

Please ignore the other reviews that say how hard it is to move your men around the command map. It is very simple and it is not dangerous to do during a battle at all. GR is a great game and I highly recomend it.

realistic, stable, resource hungry

I am an active SWAT sniper with the secondary duty of maintaining my department's computer network and individual systems. Note that you need a solid system to play this game. My AMD Athlon TBird 1.2 GHz / 128MB RAM / Abit 64MB GeForce2 MX400 video does fine. I expect the reviews complaining of bugginess, poor graphics, etc. simply are from systems in need of serious upgrade or just have some unusual incompatibility issues. I have played the RS series to death and love it. The improvement I see in the GR demo is the ability to prone out and low-crawl, the threat of enemy frag grenades (I found that the hard way!), and even more immersive background effects. I loved hearing the near-misses of enemy bullets hitting hard objects close to me. That will get your attention! Certainly, it's not a perfect game, but after all, it IS a game! I have been highly impressed with these products. I'll be getting the full version of GR and GR:Desert Siege with my next paycheck! I don't know about the mission planning aspect... I haven't figured it out in the demo yet. Based on the other reviews, it sounds to be more flexible on-the-fly, which is great, but nonexistent pre-planning, which is not-so-great. Oh, well. You just can't have it all!
