This game is great.

It's a shame that some people are so bitter because they can't get their system to run the game despite them having a sytem that should be able to run it nicely if they had more than two (2) brain cells to rub together.

Halo is for XBox not PC

If this had been the X-Box version, then this would be given 5 stars easily. Yet, the PC version has much to be desired. I find it hard to believe that Halo was originally a PC game that was rushed out for the X-Box by Microsoft. The contrast between the two games on the two systems is quite frankly scary.

I own a top of the line system. AMD Athlon 2600, with a 128 MB video card and 512 MB RAM. And I had major problems running the game. On the first level, it lagged like molasses in January. I liked the multiplayer levels, yet I prefer not to pay to play games online, and system linking the computers is as much of a waste of time as the whole PC version itself.

If you want to know what Halo is all about, please go get the X-Box version. It is much more enjoyable, and a lot less nerve racking.

This game is..rather WAS addicting until I slowly quit. I had played it for about a year and a half. Was worth the 50 bucks at the time. Countless hours of fun, whipping people online.... Awesome job bungie/microsoft.

this game is the best i've ever played. there's a pretty wide array of weapons although the enviroments are not fully interactive, you never notice. as in some first-person shooter games when you get lost there's nothing to do. but in halo it's not that easy to get lost. although at first there's only a small variety of enemies, when you're about halfway through the game a whole new type of enemy arrises. the game is extremely addictive and will keep you on this game for a long time. even if you get bored with campaign you have (free) internet multiplayer!! on internet multiplayer there's two extra weapons and one new kind of vehicle. you can play with up to 15 other players with about 5 kinds of games but there is one downside: the makers of this game chose horrible colors for the in-game units and they look well, just downright weird! (in the game you are olive green!) one kind of enemy looks like a clay model mixed with roots and made by a three year old. overall, a great game. there is blood and violence, but no gore where you can see the body parts on the ground. by the way watch out! on internet multiplayer no one monitors the servers and there are no bad word filters.

okay, i have to do it. Halo is god, there is no denying it. Halo set the standard for console FPS on every system. Now its setting the standard for pc. Even though it takes a while to get used to the multiplayer lag, its fun if you can game. newbies to the gaming world should play campaign until their eyes bleed, then they should get new eyes, then play it again. Understand?

Between the Console and PC Versions, i choose PC

If you own Halo on console and think its stupid to be on PC, i'd quit reading now because im not going to defend it for Xbox.

First off, i think Halo was an awesome game on Xbox, honestly, its the only good one. Good story and everything. What makes it better...bringing it to the computer. First i want to say that computer 1st person shooter games are MUCH better than console games. The one thing I hate the most is split screen. Being able to look at other players screen is so lame. It takes the fun out of trying to find them rather than going, "oh so you are there" and instantly running there and killing them. Plus if they have a strategy and you just watched what they did, well all the game turns into is a run and gun and die.

Second is that playing 1st person shooter games on controllers is not the most pleasant time. Trying to lightly flick the joystick left or right to hit someone (or you can strafe your crosshair on them i guess) is just annoying. On console games, the one thing they lack with a controller is being able to move their crosshair at the desired speed. A mouse you can move it quickly to move quickly.. A joystick you can..well..move it about a centimeter...and..oh look..same speed. You can change the sensitivity for most games in options, but its locked there. With a mouse you have more control.

Third: keyboard or controller? Keyboard has about 10x the buttons a controller (but if you knew to a computer that could be harder for you) that leads to more customization. Having the controls the way you want it is the most important part of the game because you need to be comfortable playing it. This was a small opinion i know lol

A PC has much more power and more things to do on it that a over rated box with one good game on it. The load times are not impressive on the Xbox for Halo. On PC, i just say start mission, and there I am. I know alot of console fans feel that console games should not be put on PC, but the fact is, why have a small, lower performance machine run your game when (if your in my case) you have a more powerful machine that handles the game even better run it. Just my opinion.

Single player: O.K. Multiplayer: AWFUL

Ok. Single player is really fun. You run around(you are geneticaly enhanced cyborg) killing aliens known has the Covenent. And it is truly enjoyable. The levels are great in all fields. It is really challenging at some parts, for added pleasure. You have a wide selection of wepaons too. But I agree with the Micheal's review(the first one). The maps are nice, the vehicles are cool, and the weapons are Ok. But the people on it have become possesed by it. They will be killing right when you spawn (aka spawn camping), never stop using the most powerful weapons like flame throwers, rockets and fuel rod cannons(what they call noobs), and always use a very strong vehicle. I'm fine with that, but the people use them 24/7. They also practice alot so you can never say "Yes, I killed him!". They also call you the absolute worst of names. So, single player is a definate yes. But multiplayer, talk about no sportsmanship!

Majorly loved it on the XBOX. Less so on the PC. Why?

I can honestly say that I loved Halo on the XBOX. Yes, the levels were repetitive, but the combat was revolutionary! For those of you that don't know - the XBOX joystick has (among other buttons) 2 thumbsticks (one for each thumb). Halo was the first FPS for the XBOX - so the Bungie programmers had to decide what these two joysticks controlled. They chose so well that countless other programmers have copied them, and those that didn't - wish they had! One thumbstick controls the motion of your character based upon the direction he is looking. The other joystick controls which direction the character looks. Did I mention that the Xbox jostick has triggers for both of your index fingers? Within 10 minutes of playing Halo on the XBOX - I was pretty good. Within 48 hours - I was one lethal trash-talking Marine! I have two problems with the PC version. First, let me prefix this by stating that I am running Halo on a P4 2.4-HyperThreaded/800MHz FSB/512MB/XP Pro/Nvidia GeForceFX 5600 Ultra 128MB. Suffice it to say that I should be able to play EVERYTHING (expect for DOOM 3) at the highest detail level while having processing power to spare. Guess what? When playing Halo for the PC and there are more than 2 aliens on the screen - my system begins to crawl under the strain. This is in the very beginning - imagine what will happen when I reach THE FLOOD (hundreds of aliens at a time)? This is unacceptable. But it is a shame that somebody messed-up Halo PC, because there will be gamers that will never know how awesome the game really is. My second problem is actually more of a realization. I now realize that Halo was so revolutionary because of the two-thumbstick/trigger controller. It is extremely intuitive to control movement with one thumb while looking with the other thumb while firing your weapons with actual triggers. The keyboard cannot begin to compete. I read a review on a reputable gaming website that basically stated the exact opposite - he loved Halo on the keyboard. To each his own - I guess. Make up your own mind, but I suggest each of you just try it on the Xbox for 10 minutes to see "what all the fuss is about!"
