Nothing out of the ordinary single player, decent multi.

The title more or less says it all. Single player is not unlike any other decent FPS, it's got that dynamic beginning and those slow stealthy closed in parts, and then more chaotic goodness.
I haven't put extensive time into multiplayer, but it's in desperate need of modding abilities. These can help to keep servers under control and fun.
A few words on the multiplayer: I noticed some people giving this low reviews because they're new, and they don't know what they're doing, and boo-hoo nobody likes me. Get with the program. If you're new to any online game you don't go around going "how do u buy teh gunz!11" or "where r u guys my controls r messed up, wtf this games suckzorz!!11111"
Halo requires patience, to learn the controls, and how to shot, etc. which is what single player should be used for. It takes time to develop skill, and yes, there are people who dedicate themselves to this, and are "leet" on a level you can't even comprehend.
With that being said, it has some fairly high spec requirements, but a poor graphics card is the one thing that will totally screw up this gaming experience. My poor Raedon 9000 is practically on life support after a couple hours of continuous play.
The music was very dramatic, and the controls are customizable. One qualm is the way that vehicles were set up, where moving the mouse left and right steers the rig. It's more than a little awkward, but works well enough.
Sure, the textures are reused, and the level design isn't as stellar as it could be, but if you got a machine that can handle it, and have a few extra bucks you don't know what to do with, Halo has plenty to offer, and can be a nice change of pace. Be warned that the vast majority of PC gamers aren't going to be able to play this as religiously as Half-life or Unreal.
compatibility problems galore

good luck getting this to run. I have two new computers and neither of them would run it because of video card issues. I had to return it to microsoft because the wrapper was off.

let me first start off this review by saying i know nothing about anything. moving on, keep in mind this is a review for the PC version. anyway, unless you have a VERY POWERFULL graphics card, dont bother buying this game. i have a geforce fx 5600. not great, not bad, but it should be able to handle a game like this at 800x640 resolution and some of the options turned way down. in some spots the framerate was pretty good, but in other spots i got six or seven frames per second! now onto gameplay. a lot of people completely RAVE about this game, but me on the other hand, dont think its THAT great. its a lot of fun for the first few missions, then it becomes just okay, and then tedium sets in when you are forced to replay missions backwards with some villains thrown in stolen straight from half-life. some of the weapons arent very good either. your assault rifle is completely useless, unless you are shooting a guy from four feet away. even with a 60 bullet clip, i have to completely unload on someone just to take out their shields. multiplayer is great, even though i feel as though i am constantly having to carry my entire team on CTF. well hell, maybe i would have had more fun with this game if it wasnt in bullet-time, all of the time. so my final words are: if you have an x-box, buy it for the x-box. if you have a Geforce 6800, or an ATI x800, buy this game for the PC.

Halo is the best action shooter game for the PC I have ever played. It has incredible graphics and extremly fun gameplay (what's more fun than running around, shooting aliens and saving the human race?), and a great storyline. You play as this awesome guy named Master Chief and fight against the Covenant to protect Earth. Anyways, its an incredibly great game and I think everyone that plays it will enjoy it as much as I have and still am. Especially the multiplayer!
A sad downgrade from a great game.

Halo on the PC was something many gamers world-wide looked forward to. But, sadly, this game is a little bit disappointing. The Good news is that it has new weapons/vehicles that the version on the xbox doesn't have. The bad news is the cruddy multiplayer. With the lack of work on muliplayer support on microsoft, bungie, gearbox, and gamespy's part allows hackers,back-stabers, and anoying little kids that can tend to piss of the avid, experienced gamer. For a little less than $20 though this game is worth the money, especially if you don't have an xbox. The single player is alright and the multiplayer is bearable in small doses. Do not listen to the system requirements on the box though, because even if you meet them the game doesn't really play well. For a good experience with this game I would recommend that you have a 2.4GHz or higher Intel Pentium4 or AMD64 processor, 40 Gigabyte hard drive, 1 Gigabyte of RAM (if you have Windows XP because its such a RAM muncher) and a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card or the ATI RADEON equivelent. Do not be decieved by the minimal system requirements for if you want to play this game with only 128MB of Ram and 64MB graphics card you will be very disappointed. Oh, and in response to one of the previous revews posted for this game, it worked for over 5 hours for me so I don't know what crap of a computer that guy had but it plays for much more than 30 mins straight. I would'nt recomend playing for more than 3 hours though, because you don't want to over-work your computer.

halo pc is exactly the same as halo except for the mutliplayer. You can drive the banshee in multiplayer (I dont know if it will have the fuel rod cannon) a rocket launcher warthog, and get in the gun turret the covenent shade. There is also two new weapons only available in multiplayer, a flame thrower which will be awesome and a fuel rod cannon, which is the hunters weapon, a sort of grenade launcher. these additions plus more maps and the fact that u can customize which weapons will appear where instead of just weapon sets.
halo fun

I have owned this game for about a month now and I have beat the story mode in easy once. It may sound as if I must really suck at it but to tell you the truth, I beat the actual story mode (campaign) in about one week (in easy.) My first thought was to beat it again in normal, heroic, and finally legendary. After beating the first few levels of normal, I decided that I was sick of fighting the same stupid aliens over and over again, so I selected multiplayer. After playing multiplayer, I finally realized what all the hype about halo on the PC was about. Playing multiplayer is a totally different experience. I have DSL so I have only gone up to ten players in one game. There are many new things for the PC version of halo compared to the xbox version of halo, however, these new features are only available during multiplayer games NOT during the campaign. New things for PC version of halo online: Fuel rod gun, flame thrower, rocket wart hog, banshees (in halo banshees were available only during the campaign.) turrets (I believe they are called shades but I'm not sure) and 6 completely new levels.
CONS: I have a 3 Ghz, P4 with HT, 128 MB graphics accelerator, 512 MB RAM, and a 200 GB hard drive and I still have to run it at 640x480! I was able to turn on the particles and all of the other video settings but I am forced to run it at 640x480 or I usually have to experience lag. Also, I haven't been able to install it on anyone else's computer. I downloaded all the patches for it but then when it comes time to run it, it says, "Your hardware accelerator may be disabled, please enable it." So I run dialdx.exe (Or something close to that, I don't remember) and make sure everything is enabled, run all the tests and still, I get the same message every time. It's not that the computers are don't meet the requirements, the last one I tried had 3 GHz, P4, and a DirectX 64 MB video card. For some strange reason, it still works on my computer though, it has only not worked on other people's computers.
Over all, the pros DEFINITATELY out number the cons and I highly recommend this game to anyone who has a computer capable of playing this game.
Can't get much better

Halo on PC. Beats Xbox Halo any day!
The missions are the same as the xbox version. The controls are WAY better and much easier on PC. I praise Microsoft for making Halo.
If you like FPS games, insane graphics and wide selections of weapons, this is for you! trust me. Think it's to easy? try a harder difficulty, there is bound to be one that challenges you!. Multiplayer Halo, Oh boy! it's to die for my friends. Vehicals-ground and air, weapons of all kinds, plus a few new ones. Costumizable settings...WHOA! The absolute works!
My only complaint is that the game on both PC and Xbox is rather linear, I mean there is only one way/path through the game. Except for a few missions which are maze like.
GO HALO!

Man... i never owned an Xbox but i had played Halo with some friends at other people's houses and the like... and i liked the game, a lot. So when it came out for PC i was truly stoked, so i waited for the price to drop a little, and rushed out to buy it. HALO IS SO FUN! The campaign mode is the same as the Xbox version, but has the capability to look so much better than it did on console, (trust me you want a good graphics card... i upgraded to a Radeon 9600 recently, and i still have a little slowdown at times) But man... dont ever play this game before you go to sleep... I had nightmares last night lol... from the creatures known as The Flood.
In gameplay aspects, the controls are very easy to get used to, especially if you have played a FPS on a computer before. The mouse makes it easier to play by far. The multiplayer mode from what i have seen is incredibly fun, but lags pretty hardcore if you have dial up... get cable or better really. All in all great game, great storyline, fun weapons, vehicles and overall just a balanced game!
