A few minor pains, but lots of fun!

I've been a big mario fan since the beginning, but I took a long hiatus between the original Nintendo and the Nintendo DS, so I missed this game the first time around on the N64. The biggest difference between this game and the ones I've played in the past is the camera angles--I'm used to 2D versions, and the 3D sort of throw you off if you're not used to it. It's still loads of fun, though!

Pros: Fun, you don't finish it too fast, it's nice to be able to play as multiple characters at different points in the game, and the mini games are a nice addition (though if you've played The New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, you'll notice that many of them are the same ones).

Cons: The clever camera angles they devised to show off the capabilities of the N64 are sometimes a little quirky, making it so you can't see what you need to, or sometimes even making it hard to walk in a straight line. The controls are also a bit confusing, sometimes requiring you to remember confusing button sequences to complete a move. Definitely not intuitive, but I guess they designed it for the N64 controller so they had to get creative to make it work at all.

Overall, it took some getting used to, but it's still lots of fun! I don't regret buying it.

This game is really awesome! It comes with some mini-games that use the touch screen that keep me and my son very entertained! This game is a must-buy for any DS owner! Controlling Yoshi can be a bit tough at times, but you can always be mario.

My son absolutely loves the game, can't get him to put it down!!

Very well done and a classic according to my now 14 year old nephew who said this is the game I need to get for the DS. He has had the DS for 5 years and this is one of his favorite all time games.

My son loved it!

The game is much better than that on the N64. The story is that Yoshi wakes up to find out that Mario, Luigi, and Wario and Peach are trapped in the casle. Your job is to jump into paintings and collect stars by completing the missions. Sooner or later, you can play as everyone except Peach. Everyone is special. From Mario's wall jumping to Luigi's water running. This is great.
The problem, the only time you really need to switch is in the casle when you need to rescue other characters. In the paintings, you can put on a certain character's hat and get all their abilities. But switching once and a while keeps things moving.
Controls are easy but at times feel like your character has a mind of his own. Such as when you want him to turn around, he will go in a circle turn, which sometimes causes you to go off cliffs.
Mini games are new to Mario 64. They use the Ds pen. Now to get them, you need to catch a rabbit in a certain area and he will give you a key to play the game. ONLY certain rabbits appear for certain characters.
The problem I had was interest. You may not feel like going through to get 100%
But if you like Mario, it has the Insanity stamp of approval.
Yes, I misspelled casle.

Absolutly a must-buy! Highly recommended for N64 fans...

I've played Nintendo 64 since I was probably about 6 or 7, and this was the first game I ever got for it. My cousin and I have been getting stars ever since ^_^... but besides that, it is much better and very different than the original. The sound is just as good, it moves faster and smoother, better graphics (MUCH BETTER), new powers and abilities, new types of stars, lots of bunny rabbits to catch, and more! It's an amazing game and is a great demonstration of what the DS can do. You can play as Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario - the whole gang! (but sorry, you have to earn M, L, and W first ;)) Highly recommended... great game, much buy, 5 1/2 / 5!!! :D Enjoy!

Mario's back, and he's on the DS

Super Mario 64 DS is a great game. The best thing is that it's fun because it's got Mario, Luigi, Wario, aand Yoshi. Each character has atleast 1 unique move. For example, Luigi can turn invisible and he can also do a helicopter back-flip. The enemies are pretty smart, and the game is not an easy one. You need to get 80 stars to face Bowser the final time(you face him a few times in the game), but there are 150 stars in all, which will give you a lot of playing time. You can have up to 3 files in the game also. There are even mini-games that have to be unlocked in adventure mode to be played. The graphics are good, especially because it used to be on a console, and now is on a handheld. The bad things about the game is that the controls can get on your nerves because there's no analog stick. I thought the boss battles were too easy because I beat the last Bowser in just a few minutes. Another good thing about the game that I forgot to mention was that there's multiplayer. All you do is collect the most amount of stars you can under a time limit. I think this is a great game for the DS.

Super Mario 64 goes to the DS

If I could I would give this game a 4.5. Super Mario 64 is a really entertaining and fun game, but is does have errors. In my opionion this is the best DS game yet, but there is a lot of repeats from the N64 version. As usual Princess Peach as been captured by Bowser and it's up to you to save her as one of four characters; Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario. You travel to diffrent worlds in Princess Peaches castle looking for stars to open the door where Peach is being held.

PROS:
The game will keep you busy for awhile.
The minigames will never get old.
The wireless multiplayer is a really cool feature.
There are thiry more stars than there where in the first game.
Good use of touch screen.
You can play as Wario, Yoshi, and Luigi too.
CONS:
Controlls are really hard to get a hang of at some points.
It's mostly the same as the N64 version.
It can get a little hard and boring on some stages.

In conclusion if you just got a DS or planning to get one this is the game to get.
