About four weeks ago I wrote a review of this game and said how it looks great and that I hadn't played it yet. Now I own it and able to tell you how it came out and rate it. First of all it yes is a Grand Theft Auto KILLER! they where right about saying that. You can absolutely do anything and have alot more fun. The graphics are not as colorful but it is 240 miles of roaming space and it is really that much. I mean to go through every street it would take forever. Here is my review and how I see what is better and worse than GTA 3,and VC.
Graphics 9/10 the game has 240 miles of roaming space and being able to make the graphics look just as good outside as good inside is great. Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City are more colorful but they have a trailing shade look behind them. I would give GTA 3 and VC a 8.7/10 for graphics.
Sound is a easy 10/10 The soundtrack is amazing and awsome how you can use it. There is no radio button but your able to play any song you want by a selection just like Tony Hawk series.
The guns are a loud load of fun to here and the car engines are diffrent for each car and same with weapons.
Control 9.4/10 There not bad and there not great there just like Splinter Cells controls. The way this game beats Grand Theft Auto series is in the aiming. You can select what you want to shoot at and not only one but two targets.
Gameplay 10/10 You can choose to arrest people or kill people.
Firing a warning shot or show your badge is how to put people down and arrest them. You get a huge selection of cars from
many of your known brand companys. Just to name a couple Dodge Dakota, Chevy Trailblazer, Ford Mustang, Ford 69 GT, Dodge Viper, Porshe, Dodge Neon, Bus, Ice cream Truck, Street Bike, Taxi, and Cop car.
Shooting 9/10 Just as good as GTA 3, VC but better aiming and more options to shoot.
Fighting 8/10 It can sometimes be hard and long and learning the tricks and finishers might take awhile. Adding wrestling moves is a smart move also. If you want me to put it straight the fighting is like Dead To Rights.
Driving 9.7/10 Oh yeah it is definetly a high point of the game.
You can easily take control of any car and how it drives with a control setup similar to the new Need For Speed Undergrounds.
Running speed frame rates per second 7/10 It has wierd glitches sometimes and some wierd slowdowns but it rarely happens unless you get alot of action going and have a vehicle running. I have had no slow downs on fighting but have had to turn it of because of loading and it making a glitch out of it. Timesplitters 2 runs at a beautiful 60 frame rates per sencond and I would estimate True Crime Streets of LA at about 40 FRPS not bad for a 240 mile city and more live people than GTA 3 or VC.
I would give True Crime Streets Of LA a 9.7 out of 10 in all and would easily say its better than Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. Rockstar im sorry someone has finally stole your fame and fortune and looks like they could do it again. Have fun and I would highly reccomend this game.

You're Nick Kang. Your father has been killed some years ago, but you don't know why and by whom. Some say you're a loose cannon, but you're a really good cop. The E.O.D. - Elite Operations Division - hires you to solve some street crimes, but you never knew these crimes would get the answer to your father's death...
- Graphics: The graphics is this game are very enjoyable. The character's faces are all different, and very detailed. The city of L.A. is huge in this game, really, they've done a great work about that. The camera is not a problem, since you control it with the C-Stick (like in Zelda: The Wind Waker and nearly every other 3D game in the GCN). The whole city is detailed too, no complains about the graphics.
- Sound: This game's soundtrack is just amazing, if you enjoy rap. Snoop Dogg is obviously the greatest rapper in the soundtrack. I really want to buy the soundtrack, that's avaliable at Amazon in both Explicit and Clean versions, due to Snoop Dogg's song "Dance Wit Me", it's fantastic. The whole soundtrack is good, it includes some other rock songs, but it's mostly rap. The voice acting is great too, everyone works great doing the voice to the virtual characters, except for the famous actor Christopher Walken, his voice doesn't sound that good in the videogame. Sound effects are awesome too.
- Fun: The missions in this game are very different. Race, stealth, shoot, fight and so on, and this makes the game better, because you don't get tired. The main character, Nick Kang, is great, so he's another attractive to the game. True Crime: Streets Of L.A. is not a hard game, but it requires some practice in some missions. There are many endings in the game, it depends on how you've played in the whole games, if you were a bad cop or a good cop. In other words, the game is very fun and will entertain you for a while.
- Educative: It's a Mature game due to strong language, violence (well, nearly every game has violence), some sexual content and blood. It is a game, I believe, OK for 15 and up. It has all those f-words, b-words, s-words, it is violent, you use guns, you can kill people, do bad things, really. It has some sexual content too, not very explicit, but you can see that this is not a game for everyone.
I haven't played Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne or Dead To Rights, so this is like a new game to me, totally new, and highly enjoyable. This is as close we, GameCube owners, can get to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. So it's already worth your money.
Poor man's GTA is actually quite fun

True Crime owes a lot, if not everything, to the Grand Theft Auto series. Indeed it is very difficult these days to have a free-roaming action game and not compare it to GTA but True Crime is so alarmingly similar that I'm surprised Rockstar didn't try to sue.
The story of True Crime is right out of a direct-to-video action film of the late 80s. It starts out as your typical renegade cop shoots first and ask questions later kind of pulp but ends up being about ancient chinese wizards, huge fire-breathing dragons and sewer-dwelling zombies. If it began far-fetched then what it ends up as is just plain weird. However, that's not to say you'll not have fun. The plot is spread out over 9 different stages each with about 10 individual missions. It's possible to replay your favorite missions too.
True crime has 5 different styles of play. First their is the free-roaming bit where you can run all over LA solving street crimes. There there's the car chases in which you run bad guys (and sometimes airplanes) off the road. Third is the stealth missions in which you must sneak into places unnoticed and render unconsious anyone you see. Fourth is the one on one combat and fifth, my favorite, is the shoot-em-up levels, where you can do loads of stunts and diving through the air blasting away at bad guys. The slow motion as you zero in on the targets is brilliant. But I would have preferred if the game was bloodier. A few splatters here and there ain't enough.
But much of this game is boring, aesthetically at the least. The geographically accurate LA is impressive but it's so unbelievably bland. The dullest colors are used to paint the environment and the city is pretty made up of grey-scale. The cars also cannot do stunts. Which is crap. How brilliant would it be to drive right off the freeway and fly into the sky before plummeting 100 feet? Too bad, you can't do it because of the pointless invisible wall.
Pros:
Loads of action.
Blowing up stuff is fun.
Cool cut scenes with funny dialogue.
Great tunes.
Cons:
Some missions are boring.
No stunts.
LA is bland and thoroughly NON-interactive.
The fights with General Kim are IMPOSSIBLE!
Loads of very long loading times!
No matter how disappointing some parts of the game are I will still be getting the sequel, True Crime: New York City. But please do not make as boring as LA was and cut out those awful loading times!

This is an awesome game for the Nintendo system. The game is better than GTA in many ways but is lacking in others. Ther is not a wide variety of weapons but it's easy to shoot. The driving is awesome and the freeway is fun. Although, I was disappointed that their were no motorcycles in the game. I think the flying in GTA is too overwhelming. The cool thing is that you are a cop so you can do almost anything you want. The slo-mo is awesome.
destruction and a lot of nonsense

No it's not as good as GTA.
So, enough said about that.
This game is so much fun!!
I can drive around, doing nothing at all, for hours.
I can fight and shoot anyone I want and run everybody over with a car and it's so much fun!
It has a low moral standard for sure, but I'm not an idiot who thinks this would be cool in real life. In a game world it's fun though.
Ofcourse you can choose your own destiny in this game, being a good cop or bad cop, but the Nick character isn't very likeable to begin with, he's a real jerk. I cannot identify myself with him and therefore I didn't feel commited to be a good cop.
The story is so awfull that it's actually really fun. You listen to the most cheesy and cliché dialogues. I had to laugh really loud when the Chinese guy who Nick fights appears to be his brother. "I thought you had lost it bro" So cliché and crap, but therefore hilarious.
Ok I will summon up the good and bad points:
Good:
- The crap storyline. Good for a few good laughs.
- The driving, which is easy, straighforward and with some cars you can go really fast. Each car has its own way of driving and steering which is fun too.
- The fighting is easy, but it sometimes does require more than simple button mashing.
- The graphics are pretty good, yes Gamecube can do better, but LA looks pretty amazing to me.
- The freedom you have to go anywhere you like.
Bad:
- Nick, the main character, is a jerk. A typical B-movie superhero. But in the setting of the story it works fine.
- Many times "precision targetting" isn't that precise at all.
- "Precision targetting" while driving does slow you down, you'll fail to catch the bad guys.
- Long, very long loading times. There isn't much continuity due to this annoying aspect.
- Sometimes the Hip Hop got on my nerves.
Overall 4 stars, but 5 stars for fun.

I recently bought this game True Crimes streets of L.A . The game has every detail of the streets in it. The size of the map in the game is atleast 3 times bigger than vice city and twice as big as GTAIII. I am a fan of GTA games i would say this is like GTA 4 with bigger sizemap since its a real life map of L.A this is a unique game and another big step for realistic games. MISSIONS: As you may know already most of the games are made of levels that you must pass and some times you get frustrated that you give up.In True Crime streets of L.A you may skip the mission ones you have tried it but if you are that kind of person that must pass it you can.You can also forget the missions and go straight to the rampage that most teens(like me) love the games for WHILE your in the middle of missions. You can turn into a bad cop or be a good cop by arresting bank robbers, streets racers, you can stop riots, kidnappers, carjackers, arrest inmates that have escape, get in high speed chases, theres stand of,drug dealers, you can stop Illegal Chicken fights, well all that you can imagine in a city. WEAPONS:the weapons are great. There are cheap ones and great ones from beer bottles, knives, normal guns and then you can get shot guns, assault rifles , uzi , granade launghers and alot more. FIGHTING: the fightin is really awesome there is ,kick boxing, normal boxing, karate, and all those marcial arts stuff you can use. WEAPON AIM: this is the best aim ive seen in games. while you are drivin you can hold R1 and fire at enemy vehicles or criminals even just people you dont like in slow motion. its like the MATRIX when you shot in the car it slows down and so does when you are taking cover from enemies you dive and it goes in slow motion and shot at them. DRIVING: there is nothing to stop you going through the whole map of L.A as in GTA you must pass the missions to get through other places. Theres more active people you can ran over or shot than GTA3 and VC. You can drive easily the cars you get BMWs, Hummer lookin SUVS, lanberghinis ( the new ones not the old ones as in vice city) the actual LAPD lookin cop cars, your own undercover cop car, limos, ford crown victoria cars... mercedes bens, cadillac, and way much more you can imagine.. even those old volgswagen vans that the hipi people used in the 60's. The game has alot of humor also... I dont see so many sexual content as in GTA where you could of take the hookers and do your business. i would recommended for YOU and people who love GTA games you must try this one!!
if you think this game is boring

P.S Activision great job :D

Something a bit more adult is released by nintendo. I know it's a shame our society places much of the blame for violent children on the back of the video game industry. But with the exception of a few idiots, most would consider a good game kind of like a vacation in an alternate reality, where the options are nearly unlimited. TC is this type of game, the closest thing to a GameCube GTA, but from the completely opposite perspective. Instead of being a hired hit-man, you're a cop! Still fun regardless.
A must buy!!!!!!!!!!

A must buy!It has different endings and if you fail a mission you cant retry it ,it will change all the story line.If you are fighting against a boss you will decide if you kill it or not,but if you kill him he can give you valuable info or items.
You can arrest the suckers or kill them its up to you but if you kill them your estadisics will be bad.You can go to dojos and learn karate...etc...
Its a big combination of GTA,Dead to rights and other cool games. You can drive, steal cars....Buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

If you're a big Gamecube fan like me, this is the closest thing to GTA you'll see. The freedom of the game opens up a whole world of things to do. The game features a variety of missions, ranging from escaping the cops to beating up groups of strippers. Another great feature added to the game was the random crime system, which means that when you're driving around LA, the radio dispatcher will explain a crime situation to you and you have the option of pursuing the crime or ignoring it. If you solve it, you get bonus points, which can be used to unlock upgrades at 24/7 training centers, which allow you to upgrade fighting moves, guns, and driving abilities. There are bonus missions where you can unlock new guns, cars, and grapple combos. Besides that, you can frisk pedestrians for guns or drugs. One of the features of the game is that you can choose whether to be a good cop (best ending), okay cop, or bad cop. Each one has a different story line. Every action affects your karma, which determines what kind of cop you are. This game is a must-buy.
