On the X-Box or PS2 I could see where this game could be bearable. The PC version is quite a different story. There is no support for a game pad or joystick, so the only options are keyboard and mouse. The huge map, large assortment of cars and plot mean nothing if you can't control the character or his vehicle.
I have never seen controls in a game this lethargic. If you derive some kind of joy from knocking over trees, street lights, sign posts, newspaper stands and parking meters, this is the game for you. Not to worry, on a straightaway the sensitivity returns ensuring your course is as predictable as the lottery. The camera angles seem specifically design to ignore the subject of importance. Sometimes while apprehending a suspect for no apparent reason, the camera will relocate on the other side of a building. During the timed martial arts progression tests, half the time is spent scrolling the lazy (at full sensitivity) camera to look at the target and align the character. It's not a contest of skill, but a struggle with technical ineptness.
As for any bugs I have had multiple crashes, from menus locking up to sound loops. My system is fully of capable of playing Doom3, Far Cry and Star Wars Galaxies, so I can assure you it falls well within the basic hardware requirements as well as the latest drivers and direct-x. It's a shame, the game looks good, has a bit of freedom to do side missions etc. If it was playable, I'd be playing it. To sum it all up, it's a good game idea, wrapped in technically flawed garbage.
This Game is Really Bad!

Do not trust anyone who says this game is good!!! They are probably a plant trying to get you to buy the game on an impulse buy. Do your research, rent the game, and you will know that this game is just horrible!
1) Sound - the sound of the cars is bad, every engine sounds like a city bus going up hill.
2) Driving around the city is no fun, compared to GTA. The physics are crap, the cars are too slow, and the cars are just boring. These guys should be embarassed to put this game out when GTA and Midnight Club have already hit the market with far superior cars and driving experience.
3) The fighting is only ok, and the moves are average. Not enough to save this game.
4) While the graphics are decent, we are the point now where we expect good graphics and alot more for our money. Again, not enough to make this a worthy purchase. In fact, it's not even worth renting.
Just take a chance on something, anything else, and stay away from this really poor effort of a game!
True Crime- The worst game you'll ever play!!!!

(...) I would rather die then play this game. It is so unreal! Cops can not walk up to a guy on the sidewalk, and run him over, turning him into a pile of goo, or shoot his face in. On the positive side, the graphics for this game were fair. But because of all the negatives, this game isn't worth a penny! If you rate this higher than 1 star, you were drunk, stoned[.](...) Last words: Terrible game- Never buy, even if your life depends on it!(...)
This game is truly awful. Don't buy and don't rent.

My high expectations for this game were shattered after I played it. This game does not boast any positive aspects that I can think of, therefore I will mention the cons. First off, the car physics are atrocious. Or better yet I should deduce that there are no car physics. It seems like the developers spent no time trying to make this feel realistic. Taking corners doesn't have a solid or natural feel. The car usually turns too sharply. The fighting is equally lack luster and repetitive. When I say repetive, people that are reading this and have played the game are nodding their heads in agreement, because repetitive is the perfect word to describe the fighting. You'll press a couple buttons, maybe you'll have a gun at times, but it never induces a feeling of fun. I found myself randomly pressing buttons just waiting for the adversaries to die. When you want the game to end after a half hour of playing, it means it's time to hand the control to some unsuspecting victim and get away while you can. Luckily I played this game at my friend's house. And he was borrowing it from another friend, so neither of us had any money deficits to complain about. Dropping $50 on a game like this would be unfortunate. I truthfully cannot recommend this game to anyone. I would not even recommend it to my worst enemies because playing this game is too harsh of a punishment. If you want to see how bad it is you are free to rent it, just be aware of how much fun you are not going to have.

This game and its sequal suck so bad that i threw it to rot and when people ask me if i have got it i say no-as i forget that this game is even mine.ActiVision are usually good at games but-TrueCrime-Is one of the worst ever. Its trying to "combine" The Getaway and Grand Theft Auto-making a s(hitt)y flop of itself.
Grand Theft Auto has two desent clones DRIVER and The Getaway-TrueCrime-hahh-I would rather play krappy old GTA1 on the PS1 than this.
The car phycis suk,the characters suk,the storylines suk,the pedestrians think there hard but me as wimpy Nick kang can just run there Azzes over with a taxi.Even the medicre DRIV3R is like a game TrueCrime prays to be.
Driver is GTAs biggest rival,The Getaway second,Sonic third, mario fourth,.........Oh and TrueCrap 1 millionth.
I mean all Mario has to do to kill Kang is just throw a flower at him and he will start crying and dye!
Oh and LA isn`t really where this game is set-its set in a ballet hall.yep Kang is the most prettiest dancer there!-well why shouldn`t it be-he ran all those hardcore pedestrians over with a taxi-and squashed their faces-so he can win the pink trophy and and play cops and robbers with Tanner,Tommy Vercetti,Claude Speed and Mark Hammond-But he thought it was a game!-They got fed up of him and shoved a grenade down his throat and when he ran his little legs to the EOD HQ the grenade exploded along with that fhat lady and the rest of em.Thats why we don`t play Nick in "Streets Of New York" we play Markus.
So if Nick did survive he should also keep out of LA city
Because thats where Tanner wrecklessly drives like a REAL radical man.and Kang might scream so loud that Tanner get angry and runs everyone over and gets the death penelty by electric chair. So he gets Nicked by Nicky Kang!
Bye.
play DRIVER,GTA,THE GETAWAY but not this!

I have had this game for a few weeks now, after reading some great reviews I bought it, expecting great things. The opposite is true. There are many problems with this game, the terrible camera that doesn't always show you the action, complicated controls - Although these take some getting used to they can be altered. I also had problems with the scenery, to many times I walked through brick walls or found that a bad guy I wanted to arrest had walked through a wall. Several times I also found baddies (and some pedestrians) sticking to cars..
Further bad news is the lack of traffic, pedestrians and... police! this is LA after all. I found I could run over many people and not see a single police car, In fact I've finished the game and I only saw 1 cop car on the streets, and that was chasing some guy who had stolen a bus.
I also think this game is way too short. It took me under 6 hours to get to the end of the game - although I didnt complete all episodes.
Its not all bad though, the soundtrack is great (although the voice acting is awful and very repetitive).
The graphics are ok but no-where near GTA standard.
The good cop bad cop thing, I don't get. I finished the game on -48 bad cop and never once achieved good cop status despite hardly killing anyone for the second half of the game.
Overall I would say Activision have made an ok game without doing anything original. Every part of this game is ripped from some other game or other. Rent this game for 7 days, play 2 hours a day and you will easily complete it, if you can control your boredom.
one of the worst ever

After seeing all the commericals and hype for this game, i expected something way more. This was overall one of the worst games i have ever played. The controls are nearly impossible to remember. The missions are idiotic and pointless. Most take less than a minute to complete while others take u hours to finish. This game is a cheap rip off of GTA 3 and Dead to Rights. The fighting in this game is crap. the driving is stupid. People say that being able to drive all over LA is a good thing, but u get lost so easily and if u try to get back somewhere it takes u forever to figure out where in the hell u are.
Im glad that i rented this game before i bought it.
I do not recommend this game to anyone.

Ok The title says true crime, yer? But you go around as a cop who can do what he wants! WTF! You can mug innocents and although it gets you a bad cop rating, in the end you do more bad stuff than the "criminals". Way too many glitches such as when you mug some one (yes a cop :S in GTA youre to be a criminal!) Breakdown: (before i die)
Good
.240sq. miles of Sweet L.a with real crappy background buildings :D
. Dunno
Bad
. All of it
. Martial art moves which equal a stupid weak slap
. Character you want to murder
. Stupid catch phrases
. Short, short!, TOO SHORT!
. Waste of money
. Cars suck
. Guns suck
. Stealth mode sucks
. 3 crap games into one ultimate crap game
. Too easy
. Crappy endings
. Overrated piece of filth
. Nick Kang is a bent cop in more than one way
. Cheap GTA rip off
I could go on but im bored of it all! The game sucks!

I rented this game thinking that it was gonna be the next big game. Instead I realized that I was gonna have to pray to God that this would be one of those gifts I DIDNT get for Christmas even thought I asked for it. And what happened I got it anyway. So you know what came next- the day long search for the receipt. Luckily I found it and didnt have to keep this horrible game. (...)The only good part about the game was the driving and it still isnt worth 49.99 . (...)
