We bought this game for our grandson's 11th birthday. He really loves it and plays it with his older sister all the time. I did get a hint from him about this game because he had played it at a friend's house and had had a lot of fun with it. It was a successful birthday present.

I enjoyed this game. It is very similar to Diablo in some respects, but the item options, the pet, and the missions make this game more interesting. In addition, the graphics are much smoother than Diablo. Overall a very fun game and I have spent many hours with the intention of spending many more on this game.

Highly addictive...even for a non-gamer

First off, I am not much of a gamer. I have played Lord of the Rings The Return of the King and Diner Dash 1 and 2 Pack but that is the extent of my gaming.
Until Fate.
Some time ago, I bought a new laptop that came with several demo games. About two weeks ago, I decided to finally start playing some of them. I installed and played Fate and became addicted.
The game is so interactive and fun. Even in the demo mode, I could still find things to do (although I never leveled up). Now that I have the full version, I find myself spending tons of time weaving through levels and collecting items.
The game is very simple. You chose your character (male or female with name) and pet (dog or cat with name). Then you interact with the townsfolk to accept missions into the dungeon. In the dungeon, you complete the mission and return to town to collect the fame, experience, and reward (sometimes a better weapon, armor, or jewelry). Eventually, you must defeat the final villain given to you at the beginning of the game.
If you are not a gamer, you will probably like (like me). If you are a so-so gamer (like my sister), you will probably like. If you are a hard-core gamer, you will probably like.
The only problem? When am I going to find enough time to play?

meet your fate....

Fate, is a very well made game.which has a couple flawes,As well as highlights.highlights are the dificiulty which makes the game less likely to become boreing but this also causes alot of frustration.another highlight is the fact this game consists of other game chateristics that many people love, such as many weapons and armour and fishing which allows to catch useful items as for the bad thing ill save those 4 another review.

Better Check for it to work.....

This game is VERY fun adn entertaining. If you get a demo of it on your new computer like I did, DONT TURN IT OFF. You'll want to play for hours, trying to squeeze every bit of fun out of the demo. I had a very slight lag issue, but only because my processor is pretty wimpy. It was annoying how your pet would auto attack any enemy it came remotly close to, but luckily, my pet was always stronger and faster, so is wasnt a problem. It's pretty cool how every player gets a different 'major' boss to face (mine was some large ice giant). But nevertheless, its an extremely fun game. One last downside; when I bought this game directly from Wild Tanget, I couldn't unlock it because I have no Internet for my laptop. Hopefully, this version will let you play without internet.

A good game that will hold your attention until Borderlands for Xbox 360 arrives in late 2008.

Great time-waster.

This review is written from the perspective of a non-gamer. I bought a new computer and a trial version of "Fate" was included. I enjoyed playing it moreso than any other game I've tried, so I bought my own copy. Great marketing.

Basically, you create a character by choosing one of four levels of difficulty (I began with "Page", translation: "Beginner".) You then choose how your character looks, give yourself a name, choose a dog or cat for a companion complete with name, and then you begin your journey around the small town of Grove. The town includes merchants that sell you their wares such as healing potions, portals, armaments, etc.

At the edge of town is a large gate leading to the Dungeon, where you earn ever higher levels of skill, experience points (allowing you to increase your skills and to direct your style of play based upon four aspects of warfare: Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Magic), and gold which once enough is earned, allows you to buy better equipment so that you can take on stronger monsters on lower levels of the Dungeon, etc., etc.

The concept is simple and consequently, the game is very easy to play. I began playing without reading the instructions and very quickly understood most of what goes on. The game offers tips (which you can turn off) which are helpful such as "Pressing CTRL allows you to run" and the like. Still, once I gained some experience with the game, I did read the instructions and found more specific information re. strategy.

The game's graphics are its strong suit and it's beautiful to look at. Everything is rendered beautifully down to the smallest detail such as the inner framing of a house, the grass, and the way the monsters react when various attack spells are lobbed against them. For example, I enjoy using the Defensive Blast spell when I'm being mobbed by 7 or 8 monsters and they react as if they indeed had been blasted by huge burst of air -- the hair on the rats is flattened, skeletons skid back on their heels, etc. It's very impressive.

Playing the game is as easy a point-and-click, with some pressing of other keys at certain important moments such as when you need to replenish your health (which is often). It's mostly intuitive, but I found some of the shortcuts absolutely necessary once I got below about Level 20 in the Dungeon -- you simply cannot drag and drop when you're being attacked from all sides and your pet is fleeing battle because it's health has been completely spent.

As enjoyable as it is, the game isn't perfect (and again, these criticisms are from a non-gamer). The game includes a narrator whose voice explains what's going on such as "Your pet is fleeing" and "You are overburdened" (when you're trying to add a weapon to your pack when it's already full). Unfortunately, you cannot turn off this feature and this becomes so annoying after just several sessions that I simply turned off the game's sound and listened to music. This is a shame because much of the audio of the game such as its music and sound effects are admirable and were produced by an obviously talented team.

Another irritating feature is the pet. At first, it's a cute to watch your dog run around and wag its tail, always eager to please. The pet is able to pick up items and run off to town, sell the items, and return with an empty pack and with gold -- all while you're continuing to do battle with the Dungeon's finest. However, constantly sending the pet to town became necessary because it also runs ahead of you and starts attacking the nearest monster. I appreciate the help of such a willing beast, but if you ever want to mount a surprise attack (which is very much to your advantage in this game -- the monsters hide around corners and wait 'til you're walking by, so I like to try to do the same), forget it; your pet will prevent you from ever doing anything of the kind unless you send it to town all the time. Although the pet's skills also improve over time, he/she is never up to mounting a serious attack on any except the most pedestrian monsters. Thus, you're constantly having to babysit your pet with far too frequent draughts of health and antidote potions. This is a real annoyance, but unfortunately, you cannot leave your pet at home.

The game has developed some strange behavior. At one point on Level 3, a wooden weapon rack is located in a rather tight tunnel and although I was able to pass by to the end of the dead-end, returning I could not pass and had to save/end the game then restart it. Soon after, my pet refused to pick up any items and I had to drag and drop them in from my pack. This problem fixed itself. I noticed that my character has developed a limp, walking in a jerky manner and when I noticed that some of the monsters were doing the same, I considered uninstalling/reinstalling, but then I would likely lose all my established data. I have learned to live with it, but it's very annoying.

The game is fun, but after a while, it's repetitive and soon grows tiresome. I know there are folks out there who have dived the Dungeon to levels in the thousands, but I doubt I will continue to play far beyond the 51 needed to win and retire my character. (I've retired one so far and am now playing with a descendant.) With an easy concept and great-looking graphics and action, it's sure to please many casual gamers. But the development of rendering errors that make the characters jerk around and the lack of options that allow players to mute the narration and leave the pet back in town make for annoyances that are significant.

Four stars is generous.

This game is the ultimate best! I mean, who wouldn't want this product? It is totally filled with adventure! You can even go fishing. There are only a few issues with this game.

#1:The beasts past level 9 in the dugeons are SUPER hard to defeat.

p.s.I faced a yeti once, I died about 3 times before killing it.Oh yeah, and I was using the summon rats spell and I transformed my pet to help me.And I still died a lot.

#2:Almost the whole game is go to the dungeons and do this and go to the dungeons and do that.

Those are the only issues with the game.Oh yeah, and one more thing."Never, ever, never, ever, EVER!!!!" get too addicted to this game. Trust me!By the way, don't be bothered by the controls. Or....Yeah, that's right this game has blood. The whole game is mostly killing stuff. Have fun playing Fate.

Wild Tangent is a terrible software maker

Be Ware of Wild Tangent. They sold us the boxed game but did not give us the unlock code for the software. We are still buying tokens to play the game even though we thought we purchase the boxed game. After many e-mails to the company, we are still unable to load the actual game on our PC!! Our son is very disappointed!

Poor copy of Diablo

I was very disappointed with Fate. It is basically Diablo rehashed. The controls aren't as smooth and when you get back to town you have to wonder all over to accomplish basically getting new quests and selling loot. I didn't find anything particularly worth while about the game, the pet is a twist but big whoop. Just another dungeon game.

The graphics are fine. The game seemed to run fine. I suppose if you liked Diablo but didn't care for the dark aspect of it, you may like Fate better. Seems more cheerful.
