Don't Bother

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 4 / 6

This may be the best game in the world but I wouldn't know. The game would not run on my system (P4 1.7 with 64MB video card and 256MB memory on Window Me) and after contacting tech support via email, I got one suggestion (which didn't work) After that, I have been ignored by their tech support. Take your chances with this one. If it doesn't work properly, you are on your own. Don't count on their tech support!

Probably not what you think

If you think this is a game that even remotely resembles 'Real War', spend your money on something else...even a book would be better than this. How they can actually say that this is based on the official 'Joint Chiefs of Staff' training games is beyond me. If our military uses anything even vaguely similar to this for training exercises, we are in BIG trouble.

However, if you have some extra money to spend and don't mind blowing it on an RTS that is only somewhat decent then Real War might be a game you'll be interested in. There are severe issues that need to be addressed with the game, including AI and balance issues. If you can overlook these issues and still want a game that has units from the real world in it, then go ahead and spend the cash.

To be honest, there are plenty of other games, RTS and wargames, that offer so much more than what this game is advertised as. It's just unfortunate that they can actually advertise this game to be exactly what it is not. Just viewed as just an RTS game, this one isn't even a good one.

Not challenging once you know the controls

Well, where do I begin? The opening movie is first rate and actually have my family and I goosebumps. My first skirmish went terrible because I did not have the units, buildings, or controls down. However, once I understood how to win, the game became incredibly easy. I must agree that there is very little strategy. When creators of games such as these say "strategy," I assume you will be battling against some brilliant recreation of Napoleon or General Lee. The secret to this game seems to have a significant anti-air weapons for defensive purposes and a large tank force for offensive purposes. I found Naval battles boring and the Air battles even more so. It is the ground war that truly makes this game. The Air Force should only be called in, it seems, once all of the anti-aircraft weaponry is destroyed. The Tactical nukes were somewhat of a disappointment--they are shot down VERY easily and cause heavy yet extremely localized effects. The skirmiches, I believe, are far more difficult than the actual missions. However, I will continue to play this game because despite some disappointments, it is still better than most.

Unreal War

For those who are seeking a beer and pretzels, blow 'em up computer game, Real War may be for you. For those who purchased the game based on the publisher's claims of being based on "official Joint Chiefs of Staff training game," you are going to be both disappointed and out $40.00. There is no realism in this game at all. Everything is at an abstract scale and gameplay is designed to be perfectly balanced with no consideration given to overall effectiveness of individual weapon systems. Also, as someone else mentioned, you basically just have to outbuild the opponent and then use sacrifical human wave attacks until only one of you is left standing. I did not enjoy it and would not recommend it.

The new standard in combat sims

As a member of the Armed forces, this is the most realistic combat sim I have seen so far. It is even better than the Close Combat series.

GREAT Game!

This is one of the best military strategy games I've played. I rarely get out of first person shooters, but this is one that had me glued to it. While there are some elements that are not realistic (bridges re appearing, units getting stuck, etc.), the game itself makes up for that more than enough.

Being able to take modern military technologies and apply them to an advanced enemy is very entertaining, and leaves the player with an outstanding knowledge of the capabilities of the U.S. Military.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RTS GAMES!!!!!!!!

This is one of the best games. It is difficult but very fun. You have a wide randge of wepons. I usally play only skirmishes, because I think they are the most fun. I have not been able to find it in other places. It has a good price, and good game play You should buy it if you want a real-time strategy game.

A near-real war game

A good game, where you manage air , ground and naval units, many fights, but after you block the enemy's first attack, you can easily win.

Its graphics are better than the game itself, but the game is amusing and nice.

AWFUL

This would have been a great game, if it had been published in 1997. There is nothing to differentiate Real War from every real time title published in the last 4 years, except perhaps laughable pathfinding and truly witless gameplay. This game is so bad its almost a parody of real time strategy games. Avoid this turkey like leprosy and save your cash for something better. I wish I had.

UH, IT SUCKS

If you are expecting an AGE OF EMPIRES that is more modern and up to date... try again. Hell, this is just a one on one stupid who can build their base faster SMARTER game.

It requires no skill level to managing resources (other than power) and absolutely is way too fast (even on slow level) to try and manage your entire army.

Flat out, this game sucks. I bought it at E-Boutique and was very glad cause I could take it back. STAY AWAY. It even didn't install correctly and took me 2 hours to figure out that I have to say "NO" to directx 8.0 install... its not intelligent enough to recognize I have it and skip the install.

IT SUCKS! IT SUCKS! IT SUCKS! IT SUCKS! IT SUCKS! STAY AWAY OR BUY AT OWN RISK.

WAIT FOR EMPIRE EARTH... I have played the demo and that will at that will be well worth the wait.
