Pharaoh for Windows XP?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

Does anyone know how I could get this game to function in Windows XP? I really enjoyed playing it, but I can't get it to work on my new laptop. Is there an updated version of it available anywhere? Please help!

Great Game

This Game may be a bit outdated by todays standards, but I consider it a great game and fun to play. The planning and building of ancient cities requires a lot of strategy and the cunning overseers rule. I find it best to start off in the easiest mode till you get used to what you are doing, then go back to a more difficult mode. This can be addicting and last for hours at a time.

This is a GREAT game even for the beginner. Graphics are good. After the tutorial there are many campaigns to choose from or you can follow the scenario. Highly recommended.

This is so cool. When I first saw it, I thought is was just SimCity in Egypt. I WAS WRONG!!!!!!!! The compex game play is amazing! I would give it 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 out of 5 stars!

An impulse buy at the computer store that turns into a great game. When I bought my computer in October, I had no "real" games. So I was in search of being entertained.

I have always been fascinated by the ancient world, especially Egypt. When I came across this game, I had to buy. I didn't realize that I would spend a lot of time being engrossed in this game. And for the value, it's excellent.

Just remember to keep the gods happy:)

Not JUST your usual 'city-building' game...

Pharoah/Cleopatra, as well as the other 'classical' city-builders in the Impression series (Zeus/Caesar,etc), is one of the most fun ever. Even though the Culture and Prosperity ratings don't have too much quantitative connection (other than the filters) to the 'Industries'...who cares?
As an 'amateur' Egyptologist for almost two-score years, I love the way this game parallels the 'history' of Egypt, while using the creative freedom enough to adapt the game to make it effective, and fun....
I recommend this game (as well as the other 'classical' games) to history students and folks who wanna be acquainted with classical history and have fun!

Too exhausting to be enjoyable

Pharaoh is every positive thing mentioned by the other reviewers. I wouldn't argue with any of them. It is a great game: "great" in terms of magnitude and scope. But it fails to be "fun." It's one of those bizarre instances where a game is addictive and enthralling but also infuriatingly difficult. I've just spent eight hours on a particular mission only to have a glitch in the behavior of the bazaar traders wreck everything. A few more courses to go on the pyramid...oops, so sorry, start over. Unfortunately problems like these have been commonplace since I started my campaign. Even when things go smoothly, most missions require four to eight hours. I'm sorry, I can't spend my life building cyberspace pyramids. Pharaoh is definitely a case of "more is less."

Pharaoh is different, in the sense that the workers in the game tend to act randomly and can be hard to control. This game just never really clicked with me. Starcraft, Warcraft, Age of Empires, and Civilization were more enjoyable to me. But if you have played these to death give Pharaoh a try.

No food, no sleep, just Pharoah

As an amateur Egyptologist, this was a must-have when I played the demo. Since then, countless hours/days/weeks have passed me by while playing this game. Does the sun even rise and set anymore? I have no idea, I'm busy playing Pharoah. I've gotten many a friend hooked. Now go away, I have to get back to my game. Wasting precious time...
