Play the demo

Does the game look great? Yes. Is it challenging? Sure. But... I found it painfully repetitive. You start out by building a city. Once you get it to prosper, you move to a new location and build another city. You may have a few more building options, but it is basically the same thing over and over. Building monuments does give a sense of accomplishment, but they do take a long time. The graphics are fun -- dancers and jugglers and thieves running around (my personal favorite are the hippos munching reeds) and the music adds nice flavor without being repetitive. But I would advise anyone interested in buying this game to play the demo (available at GamePower.com ) first. This will give you all of the Pharaoh phun you need.

I bought Pharoah about 3-4 years ago. And I still play it almost every week. Sometimes it gets hard, but I just try my best. It is very fun to play. The characters that walk around say things when you click on them. They help you know what the people think of your city. What is the funnest is building tombs and pyramids. You get to watch the peasents work on it any time you want. You just need alittle patience and you can rule Eygpt. Great game for people that like strategy and/or city-building games.

I have really been getting into the whole city-building game scene and have found Pharaoh to be a neat little game.

In all honesty I've been playing this game on "very beginner" and I've found it to be quite challenging - balancing a population and an economy isn't easy in this game - for no reason at all you can go from 4000 people to 1500 and there's no more money to increase wages and no room for new houses - finding the balance can be quite frustrating - I've found myself restarting missions over and over because I learned that farms or hunting lodges needed to be placed here not there or I needed to import this so I could export that - keeps me on my toes.

I would have given this game 5 stars but the only thing holding it back is how long it takes to build a monument - you have all the materials and labor why doesn't it build? I think the cause of that is in part to how long it took in real life to build one and sierra is just trying to keep it as "real" as they can.

Thanks Sierra!

I have played so many world-building games from age of empires to civilization and PHARAOH is my all time favorite. This game enables you to create massive cities, export and import different things such as food, crops, gems, wood, stone, and much more, and develop your city making it more prosperous as time goes on. Although this game has some warfare involved, its not the main focus such as some other games like age of empires. I would highly recomend this game and i've been playing it for years. WARNING: HIGHLY ADDICTIVE

A great game

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest games I have ever played. If you haven't bought it yet, where have you been? It's a combination of Age of Empires and Sim City 3000. If you've heard of it, it's a Caesar 3 clone. However, I always personally found Egypt much more interesting than Rome, so I enjoyed this game alot more. The game is pretty meticulous, but I love those kind of games. Buy "Pharaoh" right now if you're an RTS fan!

If I could rate it 6 stars I would!!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! I have spent hours playing it and never get tired of it. I find it fascinating to learn about the different things in Egyptian culture. I also like how you have missions that you must complete to advance. The graphics are awesome and I love the fact that you can click on the people walking around in your city and hear comments from them about what they think of the city. This feature has helped me greatly to fix problems before they got out of hand. It can be very challenging at times to meet the demands of your city but I enjoyed running the city and trying to complete the mission. I highly recommend this game to anyone who like city planning games or strategy games. You will have hours of fun with it.

When Sierra finished making Caesar III, they started looking at other Civilizations to base a game on. If you have played Caesar III, or any city-building strategy, Pharaoh is a must-have. Pharaoh is base around the world of Ancient Eygpt. The storyline of the campaign starts in the early pre-dynastic period, when Eygpt was two simple Kingdoms. Your job is to United Eygpt and make her great. I like feature of building monuments makes the game very realistic. Also the level of detail on the people in the city is impressive. people alll have unique names and will speak differently to you according to the city's situation. The buildings also look realistic with genuine representations of gods. Replayability is quite high since there are some many buildings and items that your city can produce and trade. The only thing i might criticize is that the buildings and the people are not proportional. But I find this to be only a minor distraction to what is a wonderfully made game.

As to not repeat too much of what has already been said by other reviewers, this is a great game. The thing about this game that is especially addictive is the monument building. What other game can you build pyramids with? That alone is worth picking up this title. This game would have received 5 stars from me, but the fighting parts of this game are cumbersome. The troops move so slowly and heaven help you if you have to move your troops across rivers with the "transports." Still a good game, but very addictive so watch out or you will be spending a lot of time in front of your computer, which for some of you is your life anyway.... B+

This game is great fun for anyone interested in Geography. As well as being great fun its also educational. I used this game to help me pass my Geography exams, it taught me what people need to live and what facilities help to create a better place to live, for example good healthcare and religious facilities, as well as shops and recreational places such as bars and festivals. You can also create parks and gardens.
The down side to this game is the time it takes to build monuments. It takes forever to build things such as pyramid complexes and temples. On the whole this game is a good investment, it provides hours of in-depth fun and education

SimCity in Ancient Egypt

Pharaoh is a city building game (like SimCity), but set in Egypt, during the pre-dynastic period. You start by building a settlement, addressing basic needs and continue onward. Unlike SimCity, there are various goals to hit such as population goals.

As the game progresses, it gets harder.

Unfortunately, I found myself building and managing the population, but having to check the deities almost constantly. Unless you hold regular festivals, constantly build shrines, the gods will grow angry and exact revenge on your civilization. I found it to be more tedious than fun.
