Legend of Zelda

I use to play this game when I was kid. I never turned the game over and decided to give it another try about 20 years later. The game is just what I remembered and I love it. My kids can't imagine why I love the game so much, but it just helps me relax. As before, hours and hours can go by when playing the game. This game is for the older gamers that don't need the special features of today's games. The game is very hard to find new, however, I've found that used ones are just as good once they are cleaned and taken care of.

One of the most influential games, ever

This is hands-down one of the best video games, ever. This was actually one of the first games I got and I remember it being completely engrossing. Going back to it years later its easy for me to say to myself "this will be easy" - but it's definitely not. You need to devote a great deal of time to this game to make it worthwhile but its always worth it.

The First True Legend

(Note:This is the gamecube version)This was released in 1987,a full 21 years ago.All that time and it still appeals. The Legend of Zelda launched the RPG genre in games. The story is rather simple though.Link,a young boy,has to save Princess Zelda, who has been kidnapped by Ganon. The graphics are not that great now,but that does not take any fun out of gameplay. The dungeons are very easy to beat, though it is almost impossible to beat them without losing a life.Overall this is one Zelda title that will always be remembered as a true legend .Buy it.You will love it.

I actually like Zelda 2 better

You better have a map handy when playing this game. Its quite complicated. But the thing is, if you've already played A Link to the Past, this game hasn't much more to offer. Perhaps the only thing it has that's not in the SNES version is the feature where you're forced to pay for door repairs if you blow up certain cave walls.

Zelda 1 is basically the prototype for A Link to the Past. That's why I like the 2nd Zelda better. Because it's actually a different game from the 1st and 3rd Zelda. Zelda 1 and 3 have pretty much the exact same gameplay except 3 is a massive improvement in terms of characters and graphics.

Still, its nice to play this game again 20 years later, see the dragon in the first dungeon, and say, "Hey, I remember that guy."

I beat the first quest of the game, but I didn't feel like doing another quest all over again. Especially when the only difference is in difficulty level and where items are placed.

The first 2 Zeldas aren't bad for classic games, but I think I'd only classify A Link to the Past as a must-play. Zelda 1 is so bland in comparison.

8/12/07 - Finally I finished the second quest. Its quite a bit more difficult than the first quest. I didn't realize that although the map of Hyrule looks the same, the dungeons are completely different in look as well as item placement. Throughout the second quest I always seemed short on money, and I kept getting my sword stolen by those orange sparkle things. Let me emphasize that you REALLY need a map for this second quest because darn near all the dungeons are completely hidden in places you would never guess in a million years.

This game was long as heck for a game made in 1986. Contrary to my earlier remarks, I would definitely recommend going through the second quest after you've beaten the first because the dungeons are much more challenging. Great replay value. Definitely an adventure.

Don't expect the internal memory to work

Zelda's a great game, but it's old, and the Save Game feature relies on an internal lithium battery. After 22 years or so, I doubt there are many left with working batteries, and they're soldered onto the board so even a skilled electronics person would have a hard time replacing the battery without rendering the cartridge unplayable. Let's be honest, most NES cartridges are barely playable to begin with. I remember even when NES was new, you often had to try to start the game dozens and dozens of times before it would work. So trying to conduct any operations on a cartridge is almost sure to kill it. Zelda is a long game, so unless you have no plans for the next two weeks, you'll find it very frustrating to have to start over every time you turn the game on. You could just leave the game on indefinitely and just pause it when you need to eat, sleep, work, watch tv, etc... but that's risky too because if your kitty so much as brushes up against the cartridge bay, it'll glitch out and your hours of labor will be for naught. So keep this in mind when buying any ancient NES or SNES games with internal memories.

It's a fun game

It is a fun game but can be tough sometimes especially if you don't have very many heart containers. I never finished the game because it was a little to hard for me, but I enjoyed it none the less.

the journey that's still going

What's most appealing to me about the original Zelda is how Link is just this tiny green guy with nothing fancy- just a sword, shield and other basic items. To save the princess, he basically has to go through hell with all the dangerous monsters he's forced to face along the way. A little guy like him has to stand up to THOUSANDS of monsters along the way. You really have to stay on your toes if you want to stay alive and finish the game. I love how such a simple story can stand up for years and years, and the gameplay never gets old because the game provides a perfect challenge. All you fancy gamers out there today- you don't NEED a fancy story to have a solid video game. Here's your example of that- find the princess and go through many different enemies and many difficult obstacles and complete them. It's that easy... or is it?

Swinging that sword and moving Link around is SO easy. I actually use the shield in this game. How many times do I need a shield in video games? Not often.

I love how, every time I walk into a new screen, it's like walking into a new land, with a new challenge. Every area of the land and every area of the castle feels like it was carefully created and distinct. In every other Zelda game I've played, there were parts that were just boring to walk through and a chore to complete. Nothing like that in this game. As I mention above: you are required to stay on your toes because of the very large amount of enemies just about everywhere you turn. If you can't handle that, then don't play this game.

It also feels really good when you go through a castle and defeat the boss. Even the very first one. It's amazing how the upbeat atmosphere of completing a castle can be so simple, and yet, so brilliant. Thanks to the heroic music, you really feel like you've just accomplished something big. I've been playing this game for over 15 years and even though I'm an adult now, there's a certain childhood feeling that immediately returns whenever I play this game. Having two quests featured in one game just makes the whole experience feel complete- it makes a great game almost perfect now. It blows my mind that a game from 1986 can be so enormous. In fact, this game takes a lot longer to complete than most games out there today.

I think if someone asked me what my favorite game of all-time would be, I might have to go with the original Zelda. Maybe Medal of Honor (the first one on the Playstation) would be my next choice.

If you can't handle a difficult game, then don't bother playing the original Zelda. You won't be able to handle it. However, even though I'm not really a good gamer by any stretch of the imagination, I can still complete both quests. It just takes a lot of time and patience.

It makes you wonder what the first person who had to write a guide for this game was doing when he or she first found out there are hidden entrances around the land and inside the dungeons. If I remember right, don't you have to hold down on the directional pad for a few moments as you're facing a wall in order to access the hidden entrance? Imagine someone trying to find every single entrance in *every single screen* throughout the entire land. It would take longer than a lazy Sunday afternoon to find them all, that's for sure.

Now imagine all the entrances that require bombs to access, and how someone would have to keep going through each screen and using them on every section of the wall, in the slim chance an entrance may be there. Then imagine that, when they run out of bombs, they have to keep going back and finding more, in order to experiment with them on the next section of land! We're talking hours and hours of gaming here. Seriously, people back then who wrote NES guides had to be extremely patient and willing to do the same things over and over again in order to find every little thing inside the game.

What a beautiful and fantastic game the original NES Zelda is. Pick it up... NOW!

Great for its time...

Many years ago, a very important game was released and this, Legend Of Zelda was it. On todays standard (Late 2006), it doesn't compare at all, but we can always imagine what impact it had on the average gamer when it was first came out. Again, compared to today, it is simplistic, short, and has failed graphics. It took me about 8 hours to beat the first quest and I have no interest in playing the second quest (at least yet). Though it still adds to the replay value, somthing mildly new still awaits me when I feel an urge to play it again.

On another area, it had great graphics for its time and we can't really punish it for not doing the immpossible. Since we do live in a different time then this game does, it will not excite you as much as it would have back then. Legend Of Zelda if first class game and should not be missed by anyone who enjoyed any Zelda games. It will give you a few enjoyable hours and offer you a glimpse of the beginnings of this wonderful series.

This is the greatest game ever created on any console. With smooth and exciting game-play and catchy music The Legend of Zelda is highly addictive. It is simple to play yet challenging to master. All of the fun secrets and puzzles along with straight forward battling help propel this one to the top.
