It is a fun game but can be tough sometimes especially if you don't have very many heart containers. I never finished the game because it was a little to hard for me, but I enjoyed it none the less.

A Complete Classic

Zelda is a have to have Nes game. The gameplay is not at all clunky but because of its age, it has trouble saving after taking it out or a glitch in the system.Today, it is called "UNCOOL" but for a game that cannot save from a direct spot and is tricky finding out how to save automaticly, it is a breakthrough in Nes gameplay...In all ways!

A sheer classic!!!

An easy-to-learn yet hard-to-beat NES adventure game is what makes this great. It can get boring which is why I rate it 4 stars and here is my reason: There are no people to talk to except at the store. They do not express much emotion when they talk. All they say is "Bring this to the old man" or "The secret is at the eastmost penninsula." You can't tell if it is an exciting must see secret or if it is just a thing to look at. Anyway, this will always be a gamer's legend...

Legend of Zelda was and still is one of my favorites. You control a green clad elf called Link on a quest to piece together the Triforce so that you can defeat Ganon and save princess Zelda. You play the game from an overhead view which suits this game perfectly. The land of Hyrule consists of the overworld and the 9 dungeons spread out all over the map. Your quest involves finding these dungeons (no easy task for some levels) and then defeating the boss to gain a piece of the triforce. Each dungeon is full of puzzles which get harder with each progressive level. Also items such as arrows, a raft or magic ring are hidden in the dungeons to make your quest easier. The graphics in this game are nothing to rave about but what attracts most people to Zelda is the challange. While the first few dungeons are not bad, the later levels like Death Mountain will make you stop and just stare at the map asking yourself "Now how do I get into THAT room?" Not to mention trying to find all the heart containers outside the dungeons. This game also packs replay value in that once the game is defeated a 2nd quest is presented. The difference this time is that the location of items and dungeons have been shuffled and the enemies are harder. Overall, this is a very fun and challanging game and I recommend it to all NES owners.

Best Game.

Yah. It's old. The graphics next to today's is laughable, but the original Zelda is still to this day of the greatest games of all time. I first played this game when I was three years old (I am now seventeen) and instantly became a fan. This game has nine dungeons for you to fight and solve your way through (Let any people who say games are mindless play this) and a difficult boss at the end of each one. It has numerous weapons and items to help you along the way and of couse it has Link. This game is an oldie, but I love it all the same.

A Worthy Classic

I'm giving this game "5" stars because it was one of the best games to come out in its time and it wouldn't be fair to rate it by today's standards. True, you are thrown into the middle of the action with no apparent reason and you don't even have a weapon in the first few seconds.

After you find out that a nice little sword is waiting for you inside the cave to the north, you can go anywhere, provided you know how to beat the opponents that show up on each screen (there's no scrolling in the game).

Thanks to the map included in the box, you know where the first dungeon is and you take it from there, collectiong pieces of a item called the Triforce. Along the way, you can find life extensions and items like the Bomb which will open secret caves as well as damage all enemies nearby.

When you finally collect the last piece of the Triforce and beat Ganon in a final showdown, you're stripped of all your possessions and thrown into the second adventure which is much like the first only the dungeons are in different locations and the challenges are tougher.

That's it really. Still, considering the competition at the time, there was no better game and it was easy to love it.

Which brings me to another point - it saddens me to see people call "Zelda" a RPG. I've been a game reviewer for years and I'm tired of explaining people why this is an Action/Adventure game, not RPG. That said, if you like games like "Legacy of Kain" (Blood Omen and Soul Reaver) or "Azurik", and don't mind the 2d dated graphics and sound, this game will provide weeks of entertainment. Recommended.

(Note:This is the gamecube version)This was released in 1987,a full 21 years ago.All that time and it still appeals. The Legend of Zelda launched the RPG genre in games. The story is rather simple though.Link,a young boy,has to save Princess Zelda, who has been kidnapped by Ganon. The graphics are not that great now,but that does not take any fun out of gameplay. The dungeons are very easy to beat, though it is almost impossible to beat them without losing a life.Overall this is one Zelda title that will always be remembered as a true legend .Buy it.You will love it.

One of the most influential games, ever

This is hands-down one of the best video games, ever. This was actually one of the first games I got and I remember it being completely engrossing. Going back to it years later its easy for me to say to myself "this will be easy" - but it's definitely not. You need to devote a great deal of time to this game to make it worthwhile but its always worth it.

I use to play this game when I was kid. I never turned the game over and decided to give it another try about 20 years later. The game is just what I remembered and I love it. My kids can't imagine why I love the game so much, but it just helps me relax. As before, hours and hours can go by when playing the game. This game is for the older gamers that don't need the special features of today's games. The game is very hard to find new, however, I've found that used ones are just as good once they are cleaned and taken care of.
