Great for its time...

Many years ago, a very important game was released and this, Legend Of Zelda was it. On todays standard (Late 2006), it doesn't compare at all, but we can always imagine what impact it had on the average gamer when it was first came out. Again, compared to today, it is simplistic, short, and has failed graphics. It took me about 8 hours to beat the first quest and I have no interest in playing the second quest (at least yet). Though it still adds to the replay value, somthing mildly new still awaits me when I feel an urge to play it again.

On another area, it had great graphics for its time and we can't really punish it for not doing the immpossible. Since we do live in a different time then this game does, it will not excite you as much as it would have back then. Legend Of Zelda if first class game and should not be missed by anyone who enjoyed any Zelda games. It will give you a few enjoyable hours and offer you a glimpse of the beginnings of this wonderful series.

Not much to say...

I remember when this game first came out (back in the day of 8 bit gaming), it was one of the neatest games out there, and it still is today. Sure the intensity of the plot and the graphics may be a little thin, but for 8 bits it's truly amazing. The game brings out your imagination, and gets you hooked on it almost immediately. Those of you who fell in love with video games back in the day surely know what this game is, and how addicting it is as well. This classic will never be forgotten, well because it started it all. Buy it and I gurantee you won't be upset about your purchase.

I've grown up with an nes even though im 12. My dad used to play this an super mario brothers all the time and so did i later on. Although i never got to beating this game (got bored after beating level 5), its still very fun to play. The only thing i hated about the game was not the challenge, but when you almost die and your life meter beeping like hell. This is my most favorite zelda game because its the only one where it really doesnt tell you where to go next. What i mean by this is after you beat a temple, someone or something doesnt say anything on the next location but dont worry, each temple you enter says what level it is so you know if your supposed to beat it or not *ex: i beat level 1 an 2 but then i find level 6. I turn back because i never beat level 4 an 5 to aquire the certain items in those temples in order to get past level 6*. There are also caves containing townsfolk where you buy valuable items, information, or free info and tasks. Now, thats just the underworld part, the overworld is a huge map with areas like forests, mountains and such with monsters, caves, temples (levels), and secrets all over the land and like i said, i like this zelda game the most because you always got to figure out where to go next which can take longer than you think if you dont use and guides or FAQS. And thats more than half of the game; wandering in circles, solving mysteries to get to the next location, searching for upgraded items such as swords or boomerangs, finding temples, caves, defeating bosses in temples with each boss having its own stragety where you need to figure out its weakness by using countless items on it. Then after you beat the 8 temples and collect the 8 triforce pieces, you can finally enter ganons lair and save the princess Zelda in this fantasy adventure of endless fun.

I'm the kind of person who would pay $100 for a First issue something, Not open the Box of something I had etc. However, I wanted to get The Original Legend of Zelda to try out and play. I was expecting it to be Very Very Very Very easy. I was wroung...

The story is just Ganon wants the Triforce, Zelda has one triforc and splits it up into 8 pieces before Ganon can capture her. Link must then go, recover the 8 Triforce pieces and rescue Zelda.

I'm Currently up to level 6. I have only gotten up to the room before the Boss room once. I discovered I didn't have a key. Now months later I came back and (with a key) attempted to get back to that room. I failed. Now I had the key when I came back to playing it, So I can't remember if I got it somewhere or Didn't notice it in the room before the Boss room.

Anyway, enough of that, The game was hard, and challanging. The graphics are nothing great, but I don't llok for How well the graphics and sound are. The music and the sounds a bit repetive, but you should be able to work around that (Or not). The Gameplay is alright. There are only two things that annoy me in this game.

The dark rooms and the Old Men. The dark rooms annoying especially if you need to use your ladder to get through it. Say your ladder comes out and thats as far as you could go because theres more water there. The Old Men are annoying and you can't kill them but if you try they kill you!

Anyway. story 10/10 (it was pretty original when it was made) Sound 8/10 Music 8/10 Graphics 5/10 Gamplay 9/10 Fun 9/10 All in All 8.1/10.

This game is awesome!

This is awesome!!!

This game is the first one that has battery backup for saving.
This is also the first game that combines hacking (Like in Gaunlet)
and exploring (Like in Atari's Adventure)

Gameplay: 10/10 AWESOME!! You get to do so many things in the game besides defeating enemies and collecting keys, you can purchase items from the few stores in Hyrule, collect the dugeon's hidden item and more!!

Music 8/10 Very good dugeon tune, good Hyrule tune.

Graphics 9/10 For its time, I will give it 9 out of 10.
For those who complain about the graphics, I will suggest that you go back to your Gcube or the PS2.

Overall: 9.94/10

If you like classics, go buy this game!

What's most appealing to me about the original Zelda is how Link is just this tiny green guy with nothing fancy- just a sword, shield and other basic items. To save the princess, he basically has to go through hell with all the dangerous monsters he's forced to face along the way. A little guy like him has to stand up to THOUSANDS of monsters along the way. You really have to stay on your toes if you want to stay alive and finish the game. I love how such a simple story can stand up for years and years, and the gameplay never gets old because the game provides a perfect challenge. All you fancy gamers out there today- you don't NEED a fancy story to have a solid video game. Here's your example of that- find the princess and go through many different enemies and many difficult obstacles and complete them. It's that easy... or is it?

Swinging that sword and moving Link around is SO easy. I actually use the shield in this game. How many times do I need a shield in video games? Not often.

I love how, every time I walk into a new screen, it's like walking into a new land, with a new challenge. Every area of the land and every area of the castle feels like it was carefully created and distinct. In every other Zelda game I've played, there were parts that were just boring to walk through and a chore to complete. Nothing like that in this game. As I mention above: you are required to stay on your toes because of the very large amount of enemies just about everywhere you turn. If you can't handle that, then don't play this game.

It also feels really good when you go through a castle and defeat the boss. Even the very first one. It's amazing how the upbeat atmosphere of completing a castle can be so simple, and yet, so brilliant. Thanks to the heroic music, you really feel like you've just accomplished something big. I've been playing this game for over 15 years and even though I'm an adult now, there's a certain childhood feeling that immediately returns whenever I play this game. Having two quests featured in one game just makes the whole experience feel complete- it makes a great game almost perfect now. It blows my mind that a game from 1986 can be so enormous. In fact, this game takes a lot longer to complete than most games out there today.

I think if someone asked me what my favorite game of all-time would be, I might have to go with the original Zelda. Maybe Medal of Honor (the first one on the Playstation) would be my next choice.

If you can't handle a difficult game, then don't bother playing the original Zelda. You won't be able to handle it. However, even though I'm not really a good gamer by any stretch of the imagination, I can still complete both quests. It just takes a lot of time and patience.

It makes you wonder what the first person who had to write a guide for this game was doing when he or she first found out there are hidden entrances around the land and inside the dungeons. If I remember right, don't you have to hold down on the directional pad for a few moments as you're facing a wall in order to access the hidden entrance? Imagine someone trying to find every single entrance in *every single screen* throughout the entire land. It would take longer than a lazy Sunday afternoon to find them all, that's for sure.

Now imagine all the entrances that require bombs to access, and how someone would have to keep going through each screen and using them on every section of the wall, in the slim chance an entrance may be there. Then imagine that, when they run out of bombs, they have to keep going back and finding more, in order to experiment with them on the next section of land! We're talking hours and hours of gaming here. Seriously, people back then who wrote NES guides had to be extremely patient and willing to do the same things over and over again in order to find every little thing inside the game.

What a beautiful and fantastic game the original NES Zelda is. Pick it up... NOW!

In my eyes, the best game ever, besides pong. Some people may argue otherwise because of the power of the original NES. But this game, an angel in plastic, set gamers free of bad RPG's with no storyline, gameplay, or fun. The Legend of Zelda blew away the cover and started the most sucessful gaming series ever, and possible the funnest. You may not agree, seeing as how the original Gameboy even had better graphics than a NES. The point I am trying to make is; With awesome gameplay, an amazing storyline, and all out fun. Be prepared to hear from me later. See-ya

I actually like Zelda 2 better

You better have a map handy when playing this game. Its quite complicated. But the thing is, if you've already played A Link to the Past, this game hasn't much more to offer. Perhaps the only thing it has that's not in the SNES version is the feature where you're forced to pay for door repairs if you blow up certain cave walls.

Zelda 1 is basically the prototype for A Link to the Past. That's why I like the 2nd Zelda better. Because it's actually a different game from the 1st and 3rd Zelda. Zelda 1 and 3 have pretty much the exact same gameplay except 3 is a massive improvement in terms of characters and graphics.

Still, its nice to play this game again 20 years later, see the dragon in the first dungeon, and say, "Hey, I remember that guy."

I beat the first quest of the game, but I didn't feel like doing another quest all over again. Especially when the only difference is in difficulty level and where items are placed.

The first 2 Zeldas aren't bad for classic games, but I think I'd only classify A Link to the Past as a must-play. Zelda 1 is so bland in comparison.

8/12/07 - Finally I finished the second quest. Its quite a bit more difficult than the first quest. I didn't realize that although the map of Hyrule looks the same, the dungeons are completely different in look as well as item placement. Throughout the second quest I always seemed short on money, and I kept getting my sword stolen by those orange sparkle things. Let me emphasize that you REALLY need a map for this second quest because darn near all the dungeons are completely hidden in places you would never guess in a million years.

This game was long as heck for a game made in 1986. Contrary to my earlier remarks, I would definitely recommend going through the second quest after you've beaten the first because the dungeons are much more challenging. Great replay value. Definitely an adventure.
