Fleeting chance you will ever like this...1 out 100 might

This game is like most. Strong advertisement, sells you the idea that you will get a real game with hours and hours of un-repetetive fun. Hardly. 2 weeks into your 30 days free trial (oh yes...its ($$$) there after to play...no offline play available) you will have seen all there is to see. And if you are lucky, you will see the cheats too. The guys who will offer you what seems like a fair trade only to find out they know alot more about MCO than you ever will, and you give them your trade and get zero in return. Then they change names and you never hear from them again. MCO has General Managers online, but they will not interfere with these types of problems.
To race is to earn money. But the real problem with MCO is that there is only one track which produces more money and more points (to the next level). To race against humans is stupid. You only win at the most $200, and only gain some 20 points. However if you race a sponsored car (not the one you have pointedly been saving money to soup up) at the Bel View track, you can consistently earn $300-$400 and about 80 points. That is the only track that is consistent and it takes about 4 minutes to run it, and it gets older than 3 hour old chewing gum. Whats the future in it? NONE. You just race that one track. If you race against humans, they will quit on you if they are losing. Blah. Same immoral responses we've seen in any other online game, except this one is ONLY online and to play it...you cough up ($$$) dollars every month to endure the pain.

Caution ! ! !

Think before you buy this. There is a monthly fee to play it online. The kicker is there are no offline opponents to race against. So if you can't or don't want to play online your out of luck.

Don't buy it!!!!

I have no problems with the fees it is the issues with the game it self I have a system that exceeds the required min and have never been able to get it running. The mco message boards are full of people who can't! I have been treated bad by EA tech support and they really don't seem to care if you can actually play it or not!!! It is a complete waste of money!

Please Beware

Motor City Costs (...) to play

Do not buy this product unless you wish to pay (the cost) per year in service fees for "online" play which is the only mode the game will function. I could not even install it because I would not provice EA.com with my credit card so they could start the service contract and billing me in my sleep.

CyberSkull-American Muscle Club Leader

In the beta of Motor City Online.. I run the most succesful club in the game. The club name is American Muscle. My name in MCO is CyberSkull. The max people you can have in a club is 100 people. I have 100 people and people asking every minute to join. The game is extremely fun and addicting. It is the only game I have played that is more addicting than Diablo 2 or even the giant everquest. You might think I'm crazy comparing a car game to those great rpgs but, you havnt played. The game consists of racing with all the goodness of Need for speed in a Massive multiplayer environment. The game pretty much creates a world for the user to thrive in. Racing, goreous graphics, and awesome cars. What else can you ask for?

Excellent Racing Game

I have been on racing for three months now, almost every night (very addictive). Yes, there is a ...[monthly] fee to play this game, I read the whole box before I purchased it so it was not a surprise and as it turns out it's worth every penny. I was not in Beta, but after the last 3 patches all issues posted here previously have been addressed and it has turned the game into an excellent racing community. I recommend this game to all ages, yes there are always a few exceptions, but because of the small monthly fee to play you'll find most racers are mature and just there to have fun racing a 57 Bel Air or a 32 Ford at 140mph through an old dirt road. If your a classic or muscle car buff, you'll think they wrote the game just for you.
This is the Racing Game of All Racing Games...

This game is amazing, i have been playing it non stop, customize your car with over 200 different parts to choose from, or head to the detail shop to change the sound of your horn, get tinted windows, paint job, fuzzy dice, wheelie bar or roll bar. it truly is an amazin game with many different types of racing including drag racing and street racing. i love this game because it is impossible to beat and new things are always happening!!

Crossover to the max

Mark my words; this game will bridge the divide between "weirdy beardy" online RPG players and arcade fanatics. It has, quite literally, the best of both worlds - I played the beta extensively (anyone from beta - hey, yogibear50 here), and, even though it was pre-release software, and therefore HIGHLY likely to be buggy, towards the end it became an unfeasibly easy game to connect to, and the transitions between race "pits" and game lobbys such as auctions and the workshop were utterly painless (although noticeably slower [just!] than an offline game on my measley 56k modem). The racing is pure Need For Speed; frenetic, addictive, fast-paced, addictive, polished, and, oh yeah, did I mention addictive? Here is a test for whether you should buy this game IMMEDIATELY:
1) Do you like RPGS?
2) Do you like driving games?
3) Are you alive?

If you answered yes to ANY of the above questions, you should definitely buy this game. It has something for everyone. Heck, it defines the phrase "something for everyone". I could go on for pages, but I am going to stop there and let you find out for yourself, because if this hasn't convinced you to buy Motor City Online, nothing will!

Oh, one last thing; This is an ONLINE ONLY game, so if you don't have an internet connection, do NOT buy it. You can do absolutely NOTHING without an internet connection on this game... So if you are reading this at an Internet Cafe, this means you!

A great game if you know what to expect...

Most reviewers seem to love this game or hate it. I'd like to offer a balanced opinion to someone who's curious about buying it.

The game is very challenging. Building a well balanced car takes time and patience, but it can be very rewarding when you win a race because you picked the right camshaft or tried those new tires.

You can set your own goals within the game community. Start a club, or try to collect rare parts and sell them to others for a profit. Wanna build a car that's good on the track? At the drag strip? How fast can you go down a winding dirt-and-gravel country road without losing control?

There are people of every stripe within the game, from experienced racers to newbies who aren't sure what color to pick for their new paintjob. Although some people in the game were in the beta, nobody was allowed to carry their cars/parts over to the final release... they all had to earn what they have.

This game has some negative hype, but I think that the monthly fee (which so many people think of as a bad) makes it very dynamic. The development team is planning regular updates to address the concerns of the players and to provide new cars/parts/tracks/etc. They've already released one update (or "patch") that directly addressed a number of concerns expressed on the message boards, and they're planning another update for December. I think the development team was stretched thin when the game was first released, but they are more responsive now and the game is improving.

I'm amazed at the number of people who bought the game without realizing there's a monthly fee. It's printed on the box. After all, it's called Motor City ONLINE. And to the person who wouldn't give out their credit card #, go back to your Y2K shelter... We'll call you when the world is perfect.

I think it's a dynamic game based on a great idea, and I think it will only get better.
