Why the first one is better

Why only two stars? PHYISICS, it's what makes or breaks a game. in the original, taking my mustang around a sharp corner at 140 MPH. would result in a spin-out and a lot of damage. in the secont release, you could take a two story bus at 140 MPH. around a sharp corner and not even tip it. trust me it's not as fun, when all cars have super glue on their tires. why? because its more exciting to push a car to or past it's physical limits like in every man's fantasy. the original game has a little meter called realism. where as this one does not. right in between simulator and arcade style made that game fun. this game has less realism than mario kart! if you bought the orignal, don't buy this one, you will be disgusted. but if you have not had any expereience, than buy it. also- if you have children they will love this game, because it's lack of realism (fish tails, spin outs, loss of controll etc.) are non-existant.and all of the other cars act like they are baloons. i hit a semi with a vw bug at 80 mph and launched it into the air, and lost 20 mph.THIS GAME IS NOT A ADITION TO THE SERIES, IT'S A RE-MAKE. Make your decision carfully, once open it can't be returned.

not very impressed

There isn't really anything about this game thats any better than the first one. The biggest improvements are 2 new cities, another driving mode, and more cars. SanFrancisco has been the most fun for me but it gets boring to explore after a little while. London is pretty good but its hard to get around without knocking down half the city. The new driving mode, Stunt Driver, is actually a nice add on. You can drive the Mustang Fastback in a stuntmans role in sanfrancisco or in a cab as a london cabbie. The graphics are almost the same as the first game and the physics are 5 times worse (eg: you can sent a bus flying with a VW bug, kind of fun but looks really stupid after a while). There are too many cars you have to unlock; you start out with the ones from the 1st game and a couple (...) ones from #2. I actually like the first one better because you cant get from one side of chicago to the other as fast because for one, its impossible to maintain 120mph through the city streets in rushhour traffic, and two, there are more obstacles and routes you have to take. So, I have decided this is a waste of money and you will become bored fast. Go buy Grand Theft Auto 2 or 3 or Driver; both are much better games of the same type.

Good but not too good

I actually loved midtown madness at chicago, cruisin about, winning races, and well, getting away from cops! Midtown 2 is just the same and well, even better with 2 cities and more cars to your collection! San Francisco is the best place with real roads and real buildings! The cars such as Audi are perfectly detailed with every single gadget! Now, this game is great but if you have an old system requirment, the game will get slow, not detailed and bad! But with new system requirments, the game will become fantastic!

This is the best game ever! Execpt for the cheat codes. :P

I love this game! It has all these cool cars! Once I got the American LaFrance Eagle Fire Truck. But since my computer died, I have to start over again. I'm working to get the Panoz GTR-1. And hey, don't be wastin' your money on lame games like Grand Theft Auto 2. Get this one. It'll be your moneys worth!

This game is fun to run over a network with friends and family. We get bored with it fast if we are playing alone. My younger kids like it much more than me (they think its great). It's a pain that they make you do some mind numbing tasks to unlock cars. I would give it a 3 my kids give it a 5 so we settled on a 4 star rating. Don't buy this software. Lookup Racing Madness and you can get this with Motocross Madness 2 as well for the same price. (ASIN B00005N9AA)

A Very Impressive Game With a Few Frustrating Things

Unlike many other racing games, in Midtown Madness 2 you are able to drive anywhere you want in 2 cities, London and San Francisco, from jumping off a boat to going under a subway, instead of just going around in one track. There is also a great selection of cars- the Audi TT, firetruck, Aston Martin, double decker bus, Panoz GTR, truck, London Taxi, three different types of Beetles, city bus, hummer, Ford Mustang, a police version of Ford Mustang, Mini cooper and Mini Cooper Classic, Ford Mustang Fastback, and more at the Microsoft Website.
Though there is a lot of good things, there too are problems. Many cars need to be unlocked, plus skins, which is half of the selection, and some races are nearly impossible to win.
But in the final analysis, it's a very good game, especially after unlocking everything. So if you like the things I have said above, this game is for you. Oh yeah,I highly recommend a steering wheel of any kind. Also be sure to have all the minimum requirements or else your game may crash and get erased the next time you use it. ( I've learned from my experiences)

Overrated but fun

Racing in the middle of a city is a great idea and can be a lot of fun, but this game is not as good as it cold be.

First, the cities will only appeal to those who have never visited them. For those of us who have, Golden Gate and Hyde parks seem grossly out of proportion and practically barren. In case of London, the map should be larger, in San Francisco, at least part of the town around the other end of Golden Gate Bridge should be rendered. Instead of two cities, I'd like to see one city fully and correctly rendered in version 3, and enough of boring American cities. How about doing Rome or Paris for a change?

The game is quite playable with a joystick, but you have to program it in the options menu to separate the throttle from steering. If you don't you won't be able to handle the sharp corners typical of most races.

The tests for unlocking the top cars are at times too tough and too acrobatic, and neither car physics nor graphics are as good as they are in Need for Speed games. For example, you can't even see the hood of your car in front as you drive in any of the models.

This game is good for some laughs, but if you want superb graphics and an exhilarating feel every time you play, I recommend Need for Speed.

Fun...not realism...is the name of the game

This is NOT a racing simulator. The vehicles in this game do not respond much like real-life counterparts, but they're obviously not intended to. MM2, instead, presents you with fun challenges in a manner that, while taxing your driving skills, doesn't take in too much reality (i.e., you'll normally DIE when jumping whole city blocks at 120 mph in your Mustang Fastback). Don't buy this game thinking you can practice for your driver's ed exam; buy the game thinking, "Wow. Look how much fun I can have making pedestrians dive for their lives when I scream past them doing 150 mph on the sidewalk in a Panoz GTR-1." You'll be a heck of a lot happier.

That said, this game is a SCREAM. A quick machine will make the landscape fly by with a wonderful sensation of speed. The nighttime lighting effects are outstanding. Jumping the aforementioned whole city blocks actually made me feel the height and the sense of falling. Some of the scenarios are a bit frustrating at first, but most have some little trick that you'll pick up. Unlocking all the cars, at least in Amateur mode, is not too difficult. The online game is great. Even slow connections work well, and driving with others (in the same balls-out, sanity-be-damned manner) makes for some wild car chase scenes and incredible vehicular carnage.

There have been few games that have been as addicting for me as Midtown Madness 2, and I heartily recommend it for all but the most jaded and type-A simulation buffs.

Annoying and difficult tests mar an otherwise good game

The big flaw of this game is that you have to "unlock" the cars by performing various tasks or tests. Some of the tests are very difficult, meaning that you won't be driving some of these cars promised to you on the box's cover for quite some time. The first "midterm" for London Cabbie for example, requires very very precise driving within an extremely tight time period - one misstep, and you fail the "midterm" (kind of like being back in school!) Don't pass the midterm, and you still don't get to use the fire engine. That sort of thing. I personally feel we paid for the game, we should get all the features without having to run around likes rats in a maze. Besides that it's a great game, but this patronizing approach dings a couple of stars in my book.

GREAT online

i got this game a while back, played it a little, then forgot about it. sure, its fun to destroy the crap out of everything, but you can only do that so much. a couple months ago, i stumbled on it again. i was looking at the box and saw it had online gameplay, something i had overlooked before. i started playing it and got online. a whole new world was opened! this is much more fun online, so if you have it go online i wanna play you if you dont have it go get it and play online. my nickname for the msn gaming zone is El_Bub.
