Comparing this to the book would be unfair, to say the least. It has no aims to be an adaption of any sort, and even portrays certain parts better than the recently released movie version. Though I've never been a fan of video games, I played this one out of my obsession with Harry Potter and related characters, and didn't find it disappointing at all. It has rich graphics that are vaguely (and impressively) reminiscent of the movie's actors and sets, and shows certain parts of the book flawlessly while adding and leaving out others. The dialouge and sound effects are realistic, as well as the events and activities (at least, realistic in a Harry Potter sense, of course). Though it can become repetitive, and rather annoying at times (especially when you're stuck on a level for hours at a time with no option to save at will), it's a time-consuming and enjoyable game for kids and teens alike. It's a Hogwarts adventure well-worth the time and money, and displays the book without ruining or retelling it.
A Real Snoozer (for good gamers)

I think that this game is a waste of time and money. There are only a handfull of reasons why this game is good while there is a truckload of reason why this game is bad.I'll explain why below.
Cons: 1. on the package it advertises that you can "explore" Hogwarts while batteling foes and solving puzzles ect. When they say that it means that every few levels you get to run around a small area trying to find jellybeans and talk to people walking up and down the corridors.
2.It also advertises that you collect bertie botts every flavor jellybeans, there is noting wrong with the statement but what they dont tell you is that they arent worth squat! the only thing that you do with them is give them to fred and george weasly when they need to run some "experiments".
3. the puzzles aren't challenging AT ALL! All you do is aim the wand at random objects untill a cast spell symbol appears and then you release the butten and then youve figured out the puzzle.(there are a couple actual puzzles that are mediocre but not many).
4. batteling foes is the same, aim the wand and release.
Those weren't half of the cons that I have yet I must hurry, so here are the pros:
1: there are a few interesting puzzels like the chess game at the end because they had an interesting object.
2:Quidditch is o.k. you fly around on the broomstick chasing the snitch untill a hand and a golden ball appears in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and than you let them get close and you hit the controol butten to catch the thing.
3: You get the joy of watching the story form and end on your own P.C.
Overall:
All I have to say is no good gamers! Beginner gamers and Harry Potter fans ONLY.

This game is very neat, but it's harder than it looks! Young kids should have someone there to help them. The graphics are amazing, but make sure to decrease your mouse sensitivity in the 'options' otherwise you might get extremely queasy playing the game. The flying lessons/quidditch is tough to get a hang of but really exciting. Overall, very fun.
These game is cool.

This game is rather well done. The zooming view is a huge bonus in my book. when you have Harry look around, the pillars or walls dont get in my viewing way.
I did get a little sea sick playing this game. Controls were fun to use, I am an adult and I even had fun with this game. It was not too hard, and I dont think this is something that needs high cordination, but you should have some good mouse ability.
The grafics were cool and ease of play as well as easyness of play was gratisfying. I always knew what was going on.
4 thumbs up! It would get a 5 in my book if I didn't have to turn it off occationally to get my sea sickness to go away.

I wish I could rate this game higher but neither myself or my son can get past the Learning Spells portion of the game. No matter what we try, Quirrell just tells us that the shape is not right. We each tried for over 20 minutes and still can't get it. Anyone with any advice, please let us know.
I found it very frustrating that the information enclosed with the software did not provide much in the way of trouble shooting. Also, online help or tips would be great. Again, maybe there is more of this type of information later in the game but we just can't get there.
For all the excitement the receipt of this game generated, the frustration has been doubled. Hopefully, we can figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a nice game, especially for those who aren't diehard gamers of the first person "shooter" genre. For those who bought Return to Castle Wolfenstein along with this game, the graphics will be somewhat disappointing. (I suspect the release of this game was rushed!) I became particularly frustrated with the jumping, but found that using the "auto jump" option solves the problem of falling into the abysses. Likewise, I'm frustrated by the fact that one must use the little books to save the game...an autosave option to be used at any time would be nice, as it is extremely annoying to have to wait through the little scene cuts before resuming play each time. Overall, though, the game is good, and the flying in particular is very entertaining. I hope, though, that they will devote more time to the next game (and one asssumes there will be a next game coming out with the next movie), as there is tremendous potential to create absolutely stupendous graphics and games with this theme.

My son got this for Christmas and was a little upset when it didn't run well on his computer -- it required a 400Mhz minimum processor. We loaded on to another computer and found that is a fun game, which requires skill and patience -- as well as a mastery of the mouse. Tnis game is sure to please any Harry Potter fan.
Good Gameplay and Great Graphics!

Besides being one of the best games I've ever played, this game also is the perfect the level of difficulty for almost any gamer, regardless of experience with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
The game is mostly based on the movie, particularly in the way the characters' faces look. I can guarantee that this game will keep you entertained for many, many hours!
A lot of fun

This game is a lot of clean fun. My nine year old loves it and I play it sometimes. No violence anywhere as could be expected but it plays like a FPS adventure game. Its no suprise to me that the game is based on the technically superior Unreal gaming engine.
