Killing my buddies

One of a handful of decent expansion packs, this takes the original plot of 'Half-Life' and looks at it from the perspective of one of the 'grunts' sent to 'pacify' the disaster site at Black Mesa. That said, your original mission becomes quickly subverted due to unforseen intervention, and you find yourself rushing through a 'Half-Life' parallel universe, sometime intersecting with the original game. It's essentially more of the same, but shorter (a terrible shame), although you get an expanded arsenal, and some useful allies. There's more of an emphasis on multi-character soldier vs soldier battles than before, and at times this could easily have been 'Kelly's Heroes : The Game', such was the war film atmosphere. Whilst 'Half-Life' finished with a dissapointing trek through an alien world, 'OF' sticks closely to reality (although you can beam yourself into 'Zen' if you so desire). The tragic, tragic shame of it all is that you'll probably finish it in a couple of days, as it isn't very big. Roll on 'Half-Life 2'.

almost as good as the first one

Hi, ok..........this game is AMZING! BUT, there are a few minor flaws... where to begin...... the storyline. it doesnt work as well as the first one, let me explain: in the first one, you are the employee of the month, you are part of a very important cientifical dicovery(yes, it did go wrong, but that in its self is important) and you are a highly qualified cientist. on the other hand, in ¨op force¨ you are an army bloke, who in the training area is STILL recieving training(not that it has anything to do with the game, but it is a point to mention) and is absolutly NO ONE. you are being trained for a ¨hopefully-it-wont-happen¨ type mision, needles to say, ¨it¨ does happen. there are varius other points like that not worth mentioning, but i must say, in the first edition, you realy did have that ¨YYYYEEEEEESSSSSS¨ feeling when you did a realy realy hard bit. also, something i realy dont understand is that in the first eddition, the army were against every one, including the black comandos, BUT, in op force, the police help you!!?? oh well...... one last thing, it is not half as scary as the first eddition. All that said, it is a very good game, it did only take three weeks for me to complete, and the end boss was realy pathetic, but, it is an amazing game and a worthy investment for the people who have completed HALF-LIFE! last thing, i do NOT recomend getting(or at least starting) this game untill you have completed the first eddition, you will get a lot more out of it, and undestand it a lot more if you do it in that order............i hope you enjoy the game as much as i did!!!!

good mod...but,not enough.

i once (1999/april) bought the game halflife. at that time the graphics adapter i had was k6_2/400+G200/16MB with win98fe & NT4.0 it was slow ..choppy .. it didnt really support opengl well.. ..time has changed and i bought the legendary r128fury but i didnt play halflife because of the first impression of choppy graphics and all... this march i rebuilt my system with p3_450+voodoo3000(183MHZ_OVERCLOCKED) with 3dfx_HSR(hidden_surface_removal)driver + wicked3d +win98se/NT4.0(nt does not support hsr, however-it's-fast) same amount of video ram but it was sensationally faster and beautiful . these days you've got to have at list 256MB ram to play a game to minimize the swapfile access which degrades the over all performance. i enjoyed half_life the first time since i bought the damn thing real enjoy that was..time passed and i started thiking what about mod that has story. so i bought it , damn, it's "A OKAY". it only has 6levels but hard_level is quite a challenge.. at this moment i say it's worth 20$ but if you have enough harddrive i suggest drop this single pack and buy "blue shift"30$ blue shift has opposing force bunddled in it.(they say so) half-life is based on quake2 engine so if your computer is capable of running q3demo you will have no problems what so ever so single players must take a look at it.

Just as good as half life but often confusing

I Have to admit that I love This game very much. The only thing that I must stress about its gameplay is the game can sometimes be a bit confusing. The many puzzling puzzles in the game are sometimes just to difficult for me. (I dont mean to nitpick but I mean What I say) Hey! has anyone noticed the guys in business suits that keep messing You up????

just go with steam

This game is a big rip-off now cuz u can jus get it on steam 4 fr33 if u register a yur copy of half-life. u can also get awsome stuff like counter strike, tfc, codename gordon, and other games 4 fr33.
the game itslf is not as good as half-life, but still demanded as much attention as hl.

dont buy it, just get it 4 fr33, dawg.

Much better than Half Life

This is game is much cooler, more fun than Half life. Weapons are good, there are less annoying puzzles, night vision googles are cool, AI is awesome, new and more deadly aliens. Yes the game is shorter than Half Life, but who cares when you are having fun playing it over and over again. You can make 2-3 soldiers work beside your side. Suggest everybody to buy OpFor with BlueShift, you will get high definition pack, which improves graphics and gives new looks to weapons and aliens. A MUST BUY FOR EVERY FPS FAN.

What the Original Should Have Been

HL: Opposing Force is everything the original Half-Life should have been. An FPS with a cooler hero, cooler weapons and somewhat less-annoying puzzles.

The fact that you can guide other privates into battle (not to mention boss them around) is a nice addittion although the AI dissapoints a bit.

In short, I liked most of everything about this game: from the opening sequence to the laser-aim pistol to the infrared vision (analogous to that found in Alien vs. Predator) to the new abilities the hero boasts.

Valve has made up for the (often) boring Half-Life, whose only pro was the custom game option (such as this one).

Worth the investment.

Hi have any of you tried to play the game on windows XP? Does it work? Any special modifications needed to system to play on windows XP? Any advice on system issues with windows XP and the opposing force?
Any problems playing online through a LAN connection with windows XP? If so, how did you correct them? We can't seem to get a server connection with Blue shift version of opposing force. Can you help?
Thanks for your feed back!

This game may not be all that long, but there are a lot of goodies! New people to watch your back, new weapons, and harder aliens. And It's Corpral Sheppard, not Colonel!
