I just got finished playing this add-on to Half Life, one of the greatest computer games ever. Like the first game, it's incredibly addictive and a heck of a lot of fun with the new weapons, aliens and Black Op forces. And, oh, those Black Ops... battling them is one of the biggest joys of this game. The aliens are great, but the Black Ops require more strategy, and tend to make you jump in your seat more, especially when one of those nimble, fast females start popping in and out on you. Of the aliens, I like the new shock troopers, with their roach gun the best. They'll react appropriately if you toss a grenade their way (they'll run away from it) and just seem to have better AI than other aliens in the game. All of them are good, though. The new weapons are a lot of fun, too. I loved the alien grenade launcher and the displacer gun that allows you to visit the weird worlds of Xen.
Complaints about the game are few. There are sound problems that cause it to repeat like a broken record over and over again at times. I also encountered graphics problems when re-loading a game after I had been using the sniper rifle. Third, it's too short! I wanted more, more, more! Finally, and I have to mention this, the price. It costs as much as a full game. It seems pricey for an add-on pack. I don't feel ripped-off by it, but if it had been longer maybe I would have found the bitter pill of the price a bit easier to swallow.
Still, a *great* add-on to a *great* game. :)

I love these sorts of games, and Half-Life was and is the king of them. Opposing Force is a great add-on, giving you a fun 1-Player mission (Though disappointingly EASY to complete, and rather short). The real fun from this title is the new multiplayer content, especially if you have a LAN party or are a real net gamer. Thanks for the new sniper-rifle, guys! I recommend this for anyone who liked half-life, but don't honestly feel it's worth the average price I have seen of $40, all told. It'd get 5/5 from me if it was about $25.99 I think.

First off I've been playing HL since 4/1/99. And I've played it every single day since then. It's simply the best shooter. But right now there is a rush of good FPS comeing in like q3 and UT... so is it worth it to pay for the HL expansion? Well I was kinda disspointed...I mean the weapons are unbalanced now to many BFG. Which make it a newbie game. And major lag on Won.Net Multiplayer servers...like 300. Some ppl I heard have a 50 mhz p3 1128 RAM TNT2 and DSL connection get up to 250 lag ick. So despite all that Its still a good game if you liked HL you probably like op4.
BTW single player is short =[

Half-life was the best game ever made. I expected Opposing Force to be great, but it wasn't. It wasn't worth the money I paid for it. It was way too short and easy.

The levels, creatures, voices, etc. are at least as good as the original. There is nothing groundbreaking to be found in this add-on pack. However, if you loved the original single-player missions, then don't hesitate in picking this up.
Dirt:
-A few new weapons, some are pretty cool, but not spectacular. If you are looking to buy this just to get a few more weapons to use in Deathmatch games, don't bother. The free mods like "Rocket Crowbar" or "Counterstrike" do it better.
-More aliens, very cool, some very deadly.
-More stuff with troops. Security guards are okay, but in this game, you get to have some machine-gun packin buddies who know how to get the job done. The AI is still far from perfect, but it is better than the last one.
-Well designed maps. Some I found to be superior to the original, I don't want to get into details for fear of spoiling it for you.
Bottom line: If you enjoyed the first one, buy this. It's cheap. It's good. It's got head crabs.

The first and main half-life game when I first played it I really enjoyed it, then I got opposing force, and it was to me a fantastic addition to the half-life mod collection!Finnaly, fight along side soldiers and as one, the marines that gave you trouble in the first game, you are now one of them! Opposing force is packed with new weapons and aliens, plus more advanced marines than the last half-life, use engineers to cut through sealed doors, the medic can heal you, and your friendly soldiers, but only for a limited time, besides the point, There is one thing that disturbes me about this game like the last one, the ending, NO not the adminstrator g-man again! He follows you everywhere, then talks to you about sending you to a place and the end! But, I would reccomend this to gamers who are half-life fans , and to the ones especcially who like marines!Graphics:Not much changed from the last one.Sound:New sounds, but not much changed.Control:Like the last gameOverall:A fun fantastic game!ps.Multiplayer rocks just as much in this one as the last main game as well!

I played this game last summer after having finished Half-Life. I wanted MORE so I tried this out. Being a soldier, nice twist, nice change of perspective! And this game was VERY good, intense, scary and full of new stuff. All the new features really make this an awesome game, such as the new weapons, new enemies, nightvision instead of flashlight. Thats a good thing, cos it allows you to spot the enemies way further ahead and give them the 'sniper treatment'. I also liked that one could "team up" with the other marines, and also use the medic and the mechanic guy for useful services. Unfortunately they tend to die very soon cos they are hard to protect. The sound is as from HL very good and scary. Very frightening when you stand in some dark corner and can hear some creepy monster/alien sounds near you. The new monsters are very cool, as are the new weapons, including a nifty sniper gun. The drill instructors at the very beginning - hazard course - are hilarious, make sure you play that through. Some complaints... Well, I cant think of none, the game isnt as long as Half-Life of course but still it will take more than 3-4 days for you to run through. The final boss was very hard to beat and I had to check planethalflife's site to get some hints. Otherwise, this game offered a very nice change of perspective, slightly cooler being Corpral Adrian Shepherd then a scientist in theoretical physics... This game also proves that a GOOD storyline can beat many newer games with better graphics that lacks such an intriguing story and concept that HL has. Exciting, scary and a must have!

I loved the interaction and command of a fireteam (4 Marines including yourself.). I also liked the new weapons, and the sort of us-vs-them thingie that really brought the game to life. Follows faithfully in the footsteps of an all time great, Halflife. But.... I finished it in 8 hours on medium difficulty. Too short, too much money for an add-on. If they had made it a stand alone, it would have been MUCH too short. If they had made it a $25 add-on, it still would have been a little short.

Most expansion packs are quite simple: a dozen-odd levels here, couple new weapons there, new bad guy or two. Not this time, baby. Following closely to the story of Half-Life, it takes the game to a whole new level of mystery and suspense. Remember the accident back at Black Mesa Research Facility in the original? Yeah, that was scary, fleeing from aliens and trying to keep you and your friends alive. Remember those soldiers who tried to keep the aliens at bay and gun you down at the same time? Geez, they must have had an easy job... not! This game puts you into the boots of the U.S. marine Adrian Shepard, one of the soldiers sent in to keep the alien invasion at bay. Things turn bad right at the begining, and you must fight your way out of it. What really sets this game out from the other expansion packs is all the stuff in it. Over 40 new levels, tons of new locations, half a dozen new military and alien weapons, new soldiers who fight along with you, a whole new batch of aliens, I could go on forever. Even the training simulation is redone in the style of a military Boot Camp, complete with a hard-ass drill instructor barking orders at you. There is also a bunch of new multiplayer stuff too! This is the most fun you will have with Half-Life until the sequel comes out.

Opfor should be a 5-star game. Everything but the game difficulty and story are great. The visual scenes are great. The weapons wonderful! The opposing monsters are tough and the 'Black' forces are pure cool (one rolls on the ground and comes up shooting). But there just doesn't seem to be any difficult areas or tricky puzzles to solve. There are some technical problems too (atleast on my machine). The weapon sight moves on its own (it finds the target). I set the skill level to '9' but that didn't help. Levels take a long time to load. I thought my machine was hung on a couple. Last, some areas of the game I could make the game crash by doing certain moves.
