Rainbow Six is highly unique - while it is played from a first-person perspective, and your character does have a gun, it is not exactly what would be classified as a "first-person shooter." What's Rainbow Six's hook? Strategy.
In R6, you lead a team of profesional soldiers into the lairs of terrorists where you'll free hostages, diffuse bombs, and accomplish other delicate military tasks. What's unique about this game is that you can plan the mission in advance - a detailed map of the entire level is available, and you can set waypoints, where you can move your operatives to and have them perform various actions. This means while you and your backup are charging into the front of the building, your other team (controlled by either the computer in one-player mode or a friend in two-player mode) can be picking the backdoor lock or picking off snipers.
Control is tight, intuitive, and accurate. The default configuration is impeccable, and each option is both well placed and easily memorable - qualities that were sorely lacking in the PlayStation version. While just about every button has a function, it is not in the least confusing, and immersion is instant.
The graphics certainly do the job - realism is the order of the day, and Saffire went for just that. If you're looking for anything fanciful or artistic, look elsewhere. This is a military simulation, and it emulates the real world. The levels are expansive but not excessive. Everything has a striking tinge of realism. There is background info on the characters - lifted directly from the Clancy novel from which the game takes its name. There is also detailed information on each mission, the players, the factors, and the events that lead to the crisis you are trying to resolve. While you don't have to read this information (and, in fact, the game has a quick-start option that lets you skip the planning mode entirely and jump into the skin of a Rainbow Sixer), details like this are what set this game apart from the pack.

...This is by far the worst N64 game I have ever played...
Graphics are horrible. Controls are clunky. Sounds are so-so. Dumb map stays onscreen and there is no feature to remove the navigational map which causes distractions. Low replay value, what replay value? I played for about 15 minutes and haven't picked it up since then.
Keep your money and spend it on something else, save yourself from wasting your money and time on this game.

This is a good game with realistic graphics. The strategy that you have to develop seems to be ripped out of textbooks, you have to be dead on with your planning. This realism makes the game a great addition to your gaming library.
This is a pretty good game! (could use a bit of work)

First I would like to say that this game is easy to getinto. It is simple to learn how to plan missions and such. The controlis good, almost like 007. The graphics are not as good as 007, they could use some work, but it doesn't take away from the suspense and gameplay of the game. There are only twelve rounds, and to some, this game may seem to easy. If this game contained more rounds and a harder Al, this game would be perfect. There is a difficulty level though (recruit, veteran, elite). There is alot of detail in this game, such as objection information and the naming of guns. There is even a mode where you can pic the uniform for certain environments and how protective you it to be. The last point is that this game is also based on how you plan out levels with your team (where they go and when you want them to go and stop) To seriouse game players out there I suggest you add this to your collection. Although you may pass it in a short period of time, there is co-op missions with two players working on the same mission. (no multiplayer though) If this game had multiplayer, it would be even better than 007. So to sum it up, this game is pretty outstanding, but not as perfect as say Zelda Gaiden.
The most realistic game so far

This game challenges your hand-eye coordination as well as your brain. The game is best played with 2 players using sepearate teams. My friend and I beat the game in 2 days on easy. Beware the game is very addictive. The idea of planning out a mission is hard but the game is definately worth it! That is why i give it 5 stars.
This will not dissapoint.

This is, by far, the best game in my selection. This is challenging, scary at times and just plain fun. Navigating through buildings, trying to save hostages, and not knowing if your head is gonna be blown off by some terrorist, is not what i'd wanna do for a career, but doing it in this game is perfect. Right at the moment im on mission 7 (I've finished the level on recruit but it wont let me go on. If you have any suggestions on this or just tips for the game, please e-mail me). Anyway, this game is the best so go buy it and don't waste your money on one of those dumb army men games.
Fun and intense

Walking through a dark hall with the sound of your equipment jingling on ur belt. Then all of a sudden shots ring out from behind u and ur partner is dead. Ur gun flashes and the terrorist lies on the floor withblood seeping into the ground. This is just a sample of the great game called rainbow six. Every level is filled with excitment and fun. Death waits around each corner. Although the game has a tendency to freeze sometimes it is no excuse to throw the chance away to get this great game.

I read the reviews and researched the heck out of this game. The reviews on amazon made me jump at the game because most had given it a high rating. The game can't be found in stores because of how old it is, so I found it here at Amazon (Which I am greatful for Amazon because here you can, for the most part, order hard to find games).... BUT... the game controls are awful, the graphics bite (When moving your character, the foreground and background graphics move as well), there is a map that stays on screen the entire game and you can't get rid of it, story line is weak. The only thing that seemed to be somewhat fun was shooting and having to slowly move upon enemies, doors, etc. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone.

Rainbow Six is the best game I have ever played. It combines strategy with real life S.W.A.T team annimation. The game is based on the book by Tom Clancy- Rainbow Six. If you loved the book...buy this game! You usually die in one shot but before you enter a scenario you have the choice of wearing light, meduim, or heavy protection. If you have a playstation and you played this game and didn't like it, we'll at least rent it for N64 because it is better on this platform.
