Great game for the summer, bad game when in school

I just got Black and White in the mail today. I was a little scared because I had read both good and bad reviews for it. After playing for game for about 3 hours my opinion is that this is a completely amazing game. The graphics are fantastic and the controls are also great once you figure out how to use them. However, this is the kind of game you will need to devote a lot of time to. If you are the kind of person who likes to beat this game in one day this isn't the game for you. Also, if you are in school I would wait for the summer to buy this game. However, since it is summer now I would seriously consider buying this game. It is worth every penny, I promise!!!

Alright, let me start off this way, i bought this game and it wouldn't run. So I called technical support and they said it wouldn't run on my computer unless I got a new graphics card. If you buy this game make sure you have a graphic card with more than 8 mb of memory. If not you will have to buy one, or return it.
I gave it five stars because it sounds like such a fun game and still want to play it. I want to so much that I'm going to buy a new video card for it.
Anyway, this game looks good, if you really want it get it...if you have a good enough video card. It is probably a great game.

Sure, this is one phenomenal game - the stuff it's trying to do far eclipses anything we've seen before. Problem is, it tries too hard. I still have trouble with the interface control after hours of playing, I can't get my beastie to be good (just evil), and those freakin' villagers are a constant pain. In the words of Edward de Bono: "Simplify, simplify!"
How come it has to be so much fun?

People who like this genre of gaming should really pick this game up. It is a lot of fun, but playing it over excessively will make you shelf it sooner than you should. The AI is absolutely amazing, teaching my animal things was just awesome. The sound could have been better, but it was good. The visuals are not defining a new age of graphics, but they are survivable. The playability of this game is long, it won't bog you down as fast as Diablo II.
The system requirements are a little high, but most real gamers don't care about that (they already have a beautifully rigged system). I can tell you safely that the replay value is high, there are many different scenarios you can put yourself in. My favorite is atonement, where I would be evil and than try to make up for it by being nice.
GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY AND PLAN TO PLAY IT FOR A LONG TIME

Look, this game is the greatest game ever, period. I've been playing games since Pacman and this is the best ever, and will be stay that way for a long time, a very long time. If you think there is anything wrong with this game you just don't understand it enough. It seems simple enough at first but it's easily the most complex game ever. Think managing towns is boring, why do you have your creature! The AI for the creature passed the Turing Test, the only AI ever to do that, which basically means it could pass as a human. There are literaly no limits to what you can do with your creature so use that to your advantage. Seriously, if you can't see this game brillance total perfection then you a moron, a complete and utter moron. Sorry, but it's true.
A good game with some bad faults

This game is great if you are patient and have a top-of-the-line computer. (At least 700mhz, a GeForce accelerator card, and 128mb of RAM) Otherwise, the novelty of being a god wears off quickly as your creature responds like a two year old with Down's Syndrome to your commands. Taking over new villages to advance in the game is very trying and a lengthy process at best; sometimes it is impossible with your playing style. The developers did a great job trying to keep the game balanced, but in the end it does favor one style over the other. (Though I won't tell you which one.) You've probably heard many things about this game given the reputation of its designer and the revolutionary direction it takes, but unless you have some money lying around or are just a very curious person, I wouldn't recommend Black and White.
An ok game...

I like the game, my point why I gave it 4 stars it can become very boring meeting all the villagers demands, then again, WHO said you HAD to meet them? One part in the game that was quite funny was when I had a non-believer in me, first I trashed his house then I tossed him to a galaxy far far away....=)
great game

This game is difficult, but gives one ample time to figure it out and get good at it, and is very interesting and is just a great game. I can't believe that it only has 3 1/2 stars. It's an outrage.
Fun for a few hours...

The idea of black and white is great, on paper. The idea that you can be a deity, winning followers over and defeating other gods sounds like a great idea.
Unfortunatly Black and White suffers from poor execution. First of all there are the miracles. In order to select them you first have to move the mouse in certain patterns, which is somewhat annoying. The major flaws however are the boring tutorial which cannot be skipped and every new career you start must take, and the micromanagement required to keep a village believeing in you.
Also, once you get used to these things, the game is only fun for a week or so before it gets boring. I wouldn't recommend paying more than 20 dollars for this game.
Great Gameplay, awkward progression

I love this game, it's challenging enough to hold your interest, but not so much so that you get frustrated (Europa Universalis). My one complaint is that if you want to start a new creature, you have to start from scratch and go through the whole tutorial again. There may be a way to skip this, but I haven't found it yet. Online gameplay is adequate but it would be nicer is the host could set more variables, like AOE.
