Ambitious and beautiful

This is one of those games, like the sims, that is very much a non-game and that tends to divide people into two groups. What does it have going for it? Great graphics and music, a great mood; awesome AI, novel idea, engrossing (at first). What's not to like? Controls (especially the idiotic fighting mode and the use of leashes) are clumsy, villager AI is set on sub-cretin mode, and it focuses too much on micro-management of your people, which undermines the whole "god" concept, turning the game into a variant of simcity or civilization, and not in a good way. This game was amazing for the first few hours, then got tedious and repetitive.

Its a good game, I suggest you buy it

Even though micromanaging your villages can be a chore and the creatures serve very little purpose at all, there are lots of unique things about this game.

For instance... There are no icons in it. Meaning you dont click a button when you want to walk, pick up things, or cast a spell. You move with grabing the ground with your hand. You cast miracles with gestures you make with your mouse. Its pretty cool. And alot of fun. I would of given it a 5 star rating but making your villages perfectly happy and paying attention to your creature is a real pain. If you do decide to get this game.. Which I hope you do... Dont bother trying to make all your villages flags go down.. Because you wont be able to. pay attention to your creature instead.

i got this game thinking it looked cool. when i got it home i put it on a really bad computer because noone uses it and it would be free more often. well it couldn't even take the graphics in the install program so i moved it to another computer. i got it running but it would go to a blank black screen all the time making me restart the computer. i say it is a good game but dont get it unless you have a very nice computer

This is a really interesting and deep game that is crippled by a few minor issues. Managing the villagers really sucks. I was going to download the soccer add-on for when they have no desires, but quickly realized that they ALWAYS want something. It's impossible to keep them happy all of the time. Secondly, the gesture system for miracles is a major pain. It seems that whenever you need to cast a miracle in a hurry (water, lightning, heal, etc), you're apt to make the wrong gesture and end up with a useless miracle like teleport. The developers should have enabled keyboard shortcuts for miracles - at least while fighting another creature.

The creature is obviously the best part of the game. It's pretty neat when you see this skinny little know-nothing chimp grow into a godzilla-sized avatar doing the macarena to impress villagers.

Great concept, medicore game

The graphics and idea behind this game is spectacular, I just really didn't find it much fun. I thought it took too much effort to train the creature to do anything interesting and my interest waned quickly.

Ignore the professional reviewers and buy something else

This game has been tremendously hiped by the professional reviewers and I would, indeed, like to have the game live up to the reviews. It doesn't. The game is unusual and that makes it interesting at first. But it soon becomes tedious trying to make headway in it with the difficult mouse interface and trying to keep all of the villagers happy.

The manual is extremely shallow considering all of the fine nuances to the game. At least an indepth online manual should have been included with the game.

Perhaps the most vexing part of the game, though, is it constantly crashes on the two systems on which I have run it (A dell and an HP, both with 128 meg of memory). This is despite installing the latest upgrades and shutting down everything else on the systems when I run it. If the game ran well, I would be more willing to learn all the nuances of the game and perhaps enjoy it.

If you are looking for a very unusual and indepth game, consider this one after the bugs are worked out and then only buy it with a second party manual.

Very enjoyable.

I purchased this game for my 14 year old grandson. He was VERY pleased with the Black and White computer game. He played it for hours.

this is game is great, AI top notch, Grapics look almost like Giants, and great fun gmeplay. The only problem is, to reptive, and the villagers get annyoing. We need food, we need wood, etc. But if you want a advance togatchi, and the sims, with better ai, put into one, this it.

Black & White now has been patched and is even better

Black & White is one of the most enjoyable games I have run across in a long time. I used to work for a gaming company and tested pc games for weeks on end. Black & White is truly innovative and well worth the money. I would have said that before the patch release, as it crashed frequetly, but now that it works properly it's great.

The graphics are absolutely beautiful and it's very difficult to get tired of the villagers. A lot of time was spent making sure that this game never gets boring. Even better, while you may complete the game within a few short weeks, the challenge won't stop as you can always go online and play against others.

You can be as good or evil as you want. You have the ability to use a Creature to do your bidding. Train your creature to be evil or good, or just plain neutrally lazy, it's up to you. However, training your creature to help you either conquer your enemies, or watch over your villagers will allow you to contrate more on finishing the quests rather than cleaning up after your creature, so don't leave him parked all the time!

The manual covers only the very basics of how to play the game. It's rather impossible to cover more without spoiling the game for the user as there are so many different playing styles you can use. Take the time to go to the official site and read the stories on the bulletin boards if you want to know what successes other folks are having.
