THIS IS THE BEST GAME I HAVE PLAYED. ESPECIALLY SINCE I LOVE AD&D SO MUCH. THIS IS THE CLOSEST TO THE ORIGINAL IDEA THAT HAS COME ALONG. I AM GOING TO BUY THE OTHER BALDER GATE STUFF TOO. HOPE YOU HAVE AS MUCH FUN WITH IT AS I HAVE.

It's been about 3 years since this monster role-playing game came out and it's still in most people's top ten.

This game totally redined the RPG once again like only the people at Interplay can do. Extremely detailed in every way possible. Graphics, sound, atmosphere, wilderness, monsters...there isn't a bad thing to say about this. Best of all, it has an engrossing story line that makes you want to keep playing (without sleep) for hours to get to the next chapter.

A wonderful achievement!

Bauldur's Gate is the game that we all look to as the standard in computer Live-Action RPG's. You could never tell that you are playing with the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rulebook right on your PC. This game is for every one who has ever thried to play an RPG but found it to boring. You can choose a character from one of 7 different races, and then choos one of 14 different character classes all with their own special abilities and weaknesses. You roam in the Forgotten Realms world to conqure evil (or be evil if you like, but that game is much harder) wit up to six people in a multiplayer game or by yourself wit 5 other NPC's (nonplayer charichters.)

If you liked playing AD&D in high school, as I did, Then you will probably love Baldur's Gate. The game is huge, over 2GB at full install. If your hard drive is big enough to hold it all, so you don't have to change disks periodically, this game is amazing. Once I got used to the interface, I was hooked on BG. BG was the first computer game I ever owned so I can't compare graphic etc. to other games. Since I'm not one to get hung up about an extra nanosecond of load time here or there, I found BG to be extremely addictive. Some people like to whine about graphics here or plot line there, but I'm not some people. BOTTOM LINE. THIS GAME IS FUN!

This game is fun, until you figure it out

I loved this game a lot.. i mean a lot. It was, by far, my favorite game i ever played. Until i beat it like 3 times and made about 20 different teams, i figured out how this game works. first off, i'll explain the obvious. You can choose from 6 races (Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling). the you choose from 8 classes (Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, Druid, Theif, Bard). Then from 6 attribute points (Strangth, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma), to further make your character more personalized. Problem is, theres only 3 good races (Human, Dwarf, Halfling), about 3 good classes (Fighter, Mage, Theif), and only certain races are good with certain classes( Huamns are good at Fighter, Mage: Dwarves are only good at fighters, and Halflings are only good at Theives), so that just destroyed most of the customizing. The other clsses are pretty much worthless, as they are vastly inferior to the three main classes. The races other than those three have disadvantages that greatly outweigh their advantages. Items are also poorly made, as many items are clearly better than others, even at the same price, it was like the makers decided to put trick questions in the game, it almost makes you think your being put in a test, because if you read the entire description about the waepon, you can clearly see they are much better than other weapons that are alike. the puzzles made in here could have been put together by a person with no imagination, as 99% of all the puzzles area as follows, "I got robbed (or lost) this item right over there. Can you get it for me?" Everybody it seems, can't keep track of anything, one person asks you to get his boots back, because he dropped them! There is very little originality to this game, because the characters you meet are very much the same in all aspects. You can create a team of up to 6 people if you know how to work multiplayer, just make a game, and make all your allies computer, that way you get to control all 6 people, and you get to make them all! But soon enough, you'll find out, like i did, that theres a very strict teams you have to create if you want to win. Theres like 3 variations of a team that you should make to win, or else you'll lose very quickly. I wont spoil the fun out of finding the right combo of race/class, but its a very easy choice once you see how the game works.

Overall, I think this game is fun, but to me, this game is definatly not addicitve, as most RPG's are. An it is not a game in which you can keep playing over and over.

Good, but a bit dated

This is an awfully good game, but I'd suggest to the publisher that a new version be issued using the updated engine used in the sequel.

best RPG I've ever played

First let me just say that I've never played D&D before. I saw this gama and it looked like diablo 1&2 (which I both love). Only problem was I was a little scared I'd buy the game and not understand how to play it, since I've never played and D&D game before in any way shape or form in my intire life. on the back of the box it said stuff like "2nd edition AD&D rules". Which I had no idea what it meant. I was worried it would be complicated and i'd have wasted my money cause personally I dont WANT to learn about D&D i just like playing a fun RPG everyonce in a while, so you dont need to know anything about D&D to play this game, also it's about 10x funner then diablo 2. I know the game came out about 2 1/2 years ago and the graphics are a little bit dated, but they still rock. And also when your done with baldurs gate you can get baldurs gate 2 and import your guy so unlike diablo 1&2 where after you beat the first one you have to start from scratch on the second one you start with your old guy and your ready to go.

Baldurs Gate is first of its kind.

Baldurs Gate is by far one of the best computer role [laying games to come out in a long time. The game is by first of its kind. It is the first game with the DND name to be in 3D. But what makes the game so special is its fantastic story line. The story is brilliantly thought up and flows wonderfully. The game also has very real NPC's with actual backround stories and everything. The game also has hundreds of monsters to fight and even more things to throw at them, including spells and numerous weapons. This is a great game for even those who have never even played Dungeons and Dragons before and I highly recomend it to anyone with any intrest in roleplaying whatsoever.

THE BEST GAME EVER!!!

Baldurs Gate redefines, and completes the lack of roleplaying games recently. I can't remember last time I played a good role playing game on my PC. I must say that games like Zelda, and other "role playing" games, are quite good. But for the hardcore experience of role playing, as true to real role playing as possible, you have to have a PC to make it work.

Finally, the PC gets a game that IS hardcore role playing. Baldurs Gate is everything I want in a game within this genre, plus much more. I only wish that there were more games like this. For any role playing fan, I urge you to try this one out. It has lots of characters to get into depths with, many paths to take, although there is of course just one plot in the game. The music is breathtaking as well, which I think is very important to captivate the player.

Not since Daggerfall has there been a game that captivates the player into it's world as much as Baldurs Gate, and still, Baldurs Gate does know it's limitations, unlike for instance Daggerfall.

Baldurs Gate 2 is ok, but I recommend the first game most hearty. Because of its incredible music, wonderful story, compelling AD&D style, and with the quality which no game that I can remember has.

A fantastic start...

This game is a fantastic start to a very enjoyable (and long) saga...that of the Bhaalchild traversing Faerun, ever pursued by his/her destiny.
The game is highly enjoyable and the graphics and gaming engine are superb.
However, the game loses much of its fire after its sequel is sampled. Shadows of Amn is even better, and the improvements are very tangible as everything is heavily complexified and the game becomes more challenging and engaging. I advise that gamers play this game to see if they enjoy the setup and type of game, and then delve into the far richer Shadows of Amn.
