Best Mario game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 20 / 20
Date: June 27, 2003

I still play this game to this day. I played it as a kid, never beat it, but I played it so much with my friends and alone, and I pull it out to play every once in a while still. Mario has always been one of my favorite game series of all time. Opening up with arguably the most influencial game of all time: The Original Mario Brothers, then an average game by Mario standards of 2, Lost Levels only released in Japan, which is a great one by the way, and one of the most popular games of all time: Super Mario Brothers 3. World had a huge reputation to live up to, and it did, even exceeding expectations for a lot of people, including me.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

The levels in this game are brilliantly done by Nintendo. Fun platforming, cool enemies, and just above all else, amazing level design. Those of you that have played a Mario game know what I'm talking about. It's the heart and soul of every Mario game; the reason every Mario game is praised so highly. Every level is done very nicely. As usual with Nintendo, brilliant stuff here.

Back when the Super Nintendo was king, Videogames were marketed more towards people ages 15 and under, so with this, the challenge of the game isn't hard. For the most part, you can just fly through these levels but there's the occasional tricky one. One thing Nintendo should do is add a difficulty setting to their games. It pains me to play such great games, but be challenged so little with them all.

At the time of this games release, games were anywhere from 5-10 hours in length, with the RPGs going 25+ hours. You can get through this one in easily under 10 hours, and possible in 5 hours on your first time. With each time you play throug it, it becomes quicker.

I would complain about the length, but for the time it came out, it was your average length. Plus the replay value is good. The levels, as I said, are brilliant, so you want to play through them more than once, and Mario=Fun, so you will want to play through this game atleast a couple times. All in all, the length disappoints for the time it is now(2003), but it's still good, and was normal for it's time.

I took off the .5 because the difficulty setting is too easy for a lot of people. These are Nintendo games, so people don't complain because they're amazing, but you have to admit, a more challenging Mario game would be a lot of fun.

Replay Value: 8.7

I touched on this already. Nintendo games are amazing, so you'll want to play through this one atleast twice. Can't complain in this department, but extras would have helped.

Music: 9.4

Nice stuff here. Easily one of Nintendo's best soundtracks. Cheery tunes in the normal levels, darker tunes for the castles, and Ghost levels. Very nice intro for the game as well. Just great stuff through out the whole game; not a bad song anywhere.

Graphics: 9.8/10

WOW. This is the Super Nintendo at it's best. Mario looks great, and the levels are bursting with color. The castles with lava look especially great. Vibrant, beautiful colors. Still very pleasing on the eyes to this day.

Overall:(Not an average) 9.6/10

Considered by many the best Mario game of all time, and rightfully so. From brilliant levels to great music and graphics. Nintendo went all out on this one.

The game that started the SNES's glorious run

When the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES for short) first came out in the early 90's, it had a great lineup of launch titles to easily make it the new best seller. Super Mario World was the first, and probably the best of these launch titles for the SNES.

Just like Mario and Luigi did for the Super Mario Brothers titles on the NES, they are still collecting tons of gold coins, Bowser is still their biggest enemy, and the Princess is waiting to be rescued once again. Only this time around, their journey along the way to Bowser and the Princess will be a bit different.

There are many new experiences to be held in Super Mario World. This is the game where the Mario clan first meets and uses Yoshi, the worlds and levels are bigger than ever, and the Mario brothers even have new abilities such as new flying techniques.

Super Mario World is more like Super Mario Brothers 3 than any of the previous Mario adventures. You can play by yourself in a one-player game, or with a friend in a two-player game at any time. You can guide either Mario or Luigi through the 7 different world maps that are full of different kinds of memorable levels.

Among these levels are haunted ghost houses, underwater environments, underground stages, a secret "Star Road," various other secret stages, a castle (one in each world) that houses the world's main Koopa boss, and so much more.

For the time, Super Mario World had spectacular graphics, great sounds and music, top-notch control, and overflowing replay value and fun. It's easy for any player of any age to find out what needs to be done once they start playing this 2D action/adventure. All you really have to do is get past all the interesting enemies and get to the end of all the levels.

All in all, Super Mario World is one of the best video games ever made, and it always will be! It's the game that started the Super Nintendo on the right foot, and now, it's a major classic. I wish they still made video games like this.

If you're a fan of action/adventure games, platformers, or the classic 2D side scrollers (which I miss more than anything in today's games), Super Mario World is a definite must have!!

The second best SNES game ever

The only SNES game that's better than this is Donkey kong country 2. The only other SNES game that stands a chance against this is Mario kart and Zelda. This is the second best Mario game, the first being Super mario bros 3. Anyway, the graphics and music on this game are amazing. And the gameplay is out of this world. The worlds go;
1.Yoshi's island(89%)This is a great starter world.
2.Donut plains(91%)This is a massive place with tons of secrets.
3.Vanila dome(86%)Good world, but it could have been inproved.
4.Mountain tops(89%)A good, well hidden level.
5.Woods of mystery(88%)Loads of neat secrets.
6.Chocolate land(89%)A massive level, but a bit hard.
7.Bowsers place(91%)It starts with a Mario 3 level. It's cool.
8.Star road(90%)There are five doors to this around Mario world.
9.Special SNES logo land(94%)This is very HARD! Hard to find too.
VERDICT-The only game better than this is Super Mario 3. This is fantastic!94%

Super Mario World... Kicks Bowser ...

Today, I bought a Super NES. I also bought Super Mario World. If
there is one game out of the hundreds and millions Nintendo makes, this one takes the cake! For a 16-bit game on a 16-bit machine, I couldn't ask for more! Incredible graphics for a 1991 game. I have a weakness for history, and Super NES is one of those historical artifacts everyone is trying to get. Super Mario World has a lot of worlds, which are filled with a lot of levels, which are filled with a lot of power-ups, and Yoshis! Irresistable sound and music, Tasteful charectors, same heros and same stupid enemies. If Bowser wants to date Peach so bad, why dosen't he ASK!?!?! If you are fortunate enough to waltz into Funkoland or Media Recyclery and see Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, PURCHASE IT! IT IS THE 21ST CENTURY! WE HAVE DESIRES, SO FULFILL THEM WITH THIS GAME! PURCHASE IF YOU ARE AN ADVENTURE GAME FAN OR A MARIO FAN! THIS GAME DESERVES INFINITE STARS! IT DESERVES TO BE PLAYED BY GEORGE BUSH! If you like this game, also PURCHASE the Sequal: SUPER MARIO WORLD 2: YOSHI'S ISLAND! AMAZON, THANKS FOR LETTING EVERYONE POST THEIR REVIEWS ON your site!

Easily the best Mario game ever!!!

I never thought after playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the original NES that there could be another Mario game to surpass that one. Boy, was I ever wrong! I have such great memories of when Super Mario World came out. I remember you could never play it at the local retail stores around town because 2 or 3 kids would always be standing there for 2 hours playing it. Then when I finally got my SNES that christmas of '91, when Mario World was the system's pack-in game, i was instantly hooked. The game was not much of a challenge, but I didn't care I loved it so much. Since those days I have played several other Mario titles and don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Mario 64 and other N64 Mario games, but this game just set a whole new standard for Mario games. I still play it even to this day and never get tired of it. For anyone who has never played this game, I would definitely recommend it to you if you like Mario. If not, then don't waste your time.

Truly a great game

When I saw that they still sell this game, I was surprised, because I thought they didn't sell it anymore because it's so old. Anyway, I love this game! I've been playing it since I was really young (...) It is so amusing, and fun. I got into the other Mario world. There are actually two worlds, but the other one is basically the same. Just a few things look different. Like, the koopas are in a mask that looks like Mario.

(...) I beat the game, like 20 times, but I still play it. (...) Super Mario World is so fun, you'd probably get addicted to it if you bought it. And you should buy it, because, trust me, it's worth it. (...) It's so colorful, and neat. Some things in it are humorous, like the koopas disguising themselves as Mario. Also, how cute Yoshi is. You don't even have to be a certain age to play. It's easy to learn how to operate the controls. You should try it, if you ever got the chance. Because this is truly a great game!

Fantastic

What a debut for the Super Nintendo. This is one of the best games ever. TONS of levels, TONS of secrets, TONS of everything. It's no cakewalk, but it's incredibly fun to play. You can play this game for years and years. It's simply spectacular.

This Mario game rocks! It has good game play and good graphics. And most importantly, it has a good plot. (as all Mario games do) A must have for a big Mario fan!

In my opinion, the SNES may be the greatest console ever, and its first game is one of the best games ever made. The bright graphics make you want to stop and look at the scenery. The peppy music sticks in your head for YEARS!!!(I have one in my mind right now, and I haven't played this in at least a year!) The new character, Yoshi, is a nice addition, he looks cool and is fun to ride. Yoshi's multi-colored bros. on the secret "Star Road" levels, each with their own abilities, are fun, too.
Probably the best thing about this game is its infinite replay value. It's not that challenging to begin with, but even after beating it 20 times over 10 years, I could still play it again, enjoying every minute. Even if I breeze right through the levels, it's like watching your favorite old movie; just watching yourself play it is fun!
If you own an SNES, you have to own this game. No question. Anyone can have fun with this game-my mom loves it! If you already own it, play it and treasure it. If you don't, get it as soon as possible!!!

One of the Best SNES Games of All Time!

When I bought the SNES over 10 years ago Super Mario World was the first ever game I bought. It was also the first video game I ever played for any system. You couldn't possibly ask for more from a game from 1991. The graphics are amazing for a 16-bit game and system.

Super Mario World is very similar to the first ever Mario game, Mario Bros. for the NES. Like in Mario Bros. you kill enemies by jumping on top of them and collect coins to earn more points and extra lives. Your goal is to save the Princess from the evil Bowser. But first you have to beat each level in every world by evading enemies and collecting as many coins as you can without losing a live. After you beat every level in the World you will face a boss which is much harder than any other place in the World. There are 96 levels in the entire game, including several bonus levels that you need to find and beat before you will face Bowser, the main boss in the entire game. Defeating Bowser is very hard and takes some time, but it's fun trying to save the Princess.

This is the game that made video games become really popular. If you stop by Funcoland or any store with SNES games pick up this game today along with Super Mario All-Stars, another great SNES game with 4 Mario games on it.
