Unrealistic and frustrating gameplay

I bought this game based on my previous experience with Rainbow Six games for the PC and on the reviews here, but I'm finding this game extremely frustrating. You start out with yourself and two AI helpers (barely enough to mount any sort of tactical operation - I'd say four would be a bare minimum). However your two accomplices are soon taken away from you and you're on your own in a situation that virtually ensures that you'll die - a situation that no small unit commander in his right mind would allow to continue. This happens over and over again. Unlike the old Rainbow Six games this one is highly unrealistic. Not only that, but the save points are so far apart that survival is virtually impossible. The tunnel mission is particularly frustrating as you're alone and with only a pistol and you have to rescue your comrades. Ridiculous!
Rainbow Six: Vegas is a game for the hardcore FPS fan and it seems to me that it's unsuitable for anyone else. I've tried reducing the difficulty as much as possible but the same frustrations occur time and again: I get killed not because I'm bad at FPS games but because the game is set up in such a way that death is virtually guaranteed even when your actions are tactically correct. If this is what this franchise is turning into then this is the last Rainbow Six game that I'll be buying.

Number one: This is a real shooter(first person) instead of third person like Gears of War is. That instantly makes this game, eh, playable.
2. The controls are super responsive, aiming is almost on par with a computer Shooter.
3. Online Co-Op is excellent. Rarely any lag, and the game is built for multiple people unlike something like Perfect Dark.
4. When you shoot someone in the head, they die. This is not Halo, it is not Gears, its a good game.
It grows on you

Good title filled with enough shooting to keep me and my friends busy. However, the graphics are not as clean as I would have thought they would be. Especially after playing Gears of War and the insane details in graphics. But with that being said, multiplayer co-op is tight. A definite buy for any person that likes shooters.
Fantastic game, just turn the voices off

This is a fantastic game. Highly addictive gameplay will keep you glued for hours either by yourself or with a friend split screen, or on XBox Live.
My only complaint with the game is the language. The F-Bomb is dropped so often that it seriously seems that a 15-year-old wrote the script. The gameplay is fantastic with the lean being replaced by hiding behind things (taking cover) and then being able to peek up and take shots either by blind-firing, or revealing yourself and taking aim. Other than these additions, the gameplay is still the same old Rainbow Six that you love.
A nice addition is the inclusion to be able to pick up enemy's weapons. Very nice touch.
Bottom Line: Great game, WAY too much language. Since when is maturity defined by the amount of immature language one uses? It really could have done without the profanity, as it really does break the tradition of the gmae just being a great tactical shooter. But even with that, the game is fantastic, and there's an option to turn the voices off.
Addictive

To tell you the truth, I've never really liked the Rainbow Six Series. To me R6Lockdown and R63 were just regular first person shooters. However, this Rainbow Six is something special. The character models are top-nothced except for the the civilians. The outside enviorments are have realistic lighting while the casinos of vegas have many nice beautiful colors. The gameplay is also excellent. The cover machanics are much more fluid from that of Gears of War and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. The enemy AI behave realisticly trying to outflank you and manuevering around the map. Overall this is so far the best First Person Shooter for the Xbox 360.
Maybe the best game on the 360

I loved this game. I think it is more interesting than Gears of War which most people would say this is the best game. I think R6:Vegas has awesome graphics and colors. There is always something to look at and lots of things to discover. I also liked all the game modes that were thrown in.

this is one of the best games i have ever played. mutiplayer is most fun. single player is brilliant but hard. graphics are brilliant. playing story mode and terrerist hunt is the best. attack&defend is real good when your attacking or defending. all of the levels from single player are on multiplayer aswell. if you were to buy this game(which i would recommend) is you get the xbox live vision camera for face maping.

This game is one of the best shooters out there. The story is very good, but what really got me was the multiplayer. While it is annoying that there is no 4 player only coop it is still exteremly fun. XBOX Live is superb with vegas running and the "level-up" thing you never want to stop playing. A MUST HAVE for shooting game fans.
Such a dichotomy...

When this game works, I do not believe there is a more enjoyable game for the 360. When it works.
I have never had a game on any system that has the reliability issues this game has. If you purchase this game, get prepared to see "Disc Unreadable" about every two hours. If not for this problem, this would be the easiest 5 star rating since HALO.
However, those two hours inbetween frustrations are really something! Online multiplayer is very engaging, and the customization available to the player is unique. This game also has what I consider to be the best part of Halo- perfect control. I don't mean the button layout, it would be impossible to have a "Perfect Layout", but rather the smoothness of the controls. When you input a movement, it is not jerky like in some lesser games (looking at you The Darkness, Doom, Blacksite, etc.). That smoothness is a hallmark of a great game, in my opinion. Just having cool guns, and lots of things to blow up is not only routine, it is expected. If the controls aren't there, the game will never be all that fun.
The only other frustration I have is with the checkpoint system. I like checkpoint systems, rather than a "save anytime" system. However, playing for 30 minutes without getting a checkpoint can really try your patience, as it is very easy to get killed!
So, in conclusion, I wholly endorse this game as it is the best shooter available on the 360, but plead with the producers to PLEASE quality check future releases. This hassle is unacceptable for a disc that costs $[...]. Seriously.
**EDIT**
So, I now have a new xBox, and am having many fewer problems with the disc. I think i may have been too hard on the disc, as i don't think it was the whole problem! Get ready for more with the release of RB6: Vegas II tomorrow!
