There is no denying that Rainbow Six is a gorgeous game and I enjoyed playing it. However, it suffers from a number of programming choices and problems that may drive you crazy.

First, there are some basic things about the game that are just odd. Such as you can not run. You can walk, or walk in a crouch, but you can not run. Also, you can not climb anything other than a ladder. Boxes are off limit as are cars. Also, you can not crawl on your belly. And you can not jump. Anyone who has played Metal Gear Solid or SOCOM or Gears of War will miss some of these things. Along those same lines, there are odd inconsistencies about what you can and can not shoot. Some things like TV screens on the wall you can shoot and bottles will blow up. Other things like plants on a desk -- not so much. It is as if they made some things shootable objects and then ran out of time and just painted the rest in.

Second, despite the fact that you are a highly trained military expert carrying enough weaponry to kill a small army, you can not push, move or blow up a tiny wooden saw horse. It is clear that they are there to keep you "on the map" but it really is strange to come to a 5 pound piece of wood and not be able to move or shoot it or blow it up.

Third, and most important, there are several places in the game where you are likely to get stuck and not be able to continue until you search the internet and find out how to deal with a glitch. For example, when you are on the Dam and trying to have your guys program a computer you will get a failure message over and over until you read about how you have to go to a certain spot and kill a bunch of guys in a particular way. Also, in the second to last scene of the game you will try to kill the boss over and over and it will tell you that you failed because of some reason you could not possibly know about in advance.

For all of these reasons, mostly the third, I recommend that you rent this game and not buy it. When the game works well it is a lot of fun.

It's a great game for the more patient sort, and might take some adjusting by those recently spoiled on Halo 2 or Gears of War, in terms of aggressive play. My only complaint (as one spoiled by the latter) is the lack of a run button to cover open ground, but hey, it forces me to take better cover.
Highly recommended, especially for the online co-op option.

most realistic shooter for the 360 yet.

I've just finished F.E.A.R., Gears of War, COD 3, and now I'm playing R6V. I can confidently say that I like this game better than the others (at least in single player mode.) F.E.A.R. was good, but not nearly as creepy as Condemned. Also, the A.I. was not the greatest and the graphics a bit lacking. The same dark, dreary offices got to be a bit tedious. Gears of War is visually stunning and has great gameplay, but it is less tactical. COD 3 is another solid shooter, but again the AI is lacking and its grpahics are a notch below the best. R6V has great graphics and gameplay. It requires a lot of tactical thought and stealth. While the textures in Gears were more detailed, the colors in Rainbow are much more vibrant and pleasing to look at. And if the multiplayer is anything like Ghost Recon's, then this is easily the best shooter on the 360.

love it

I played this game first on a tricked out 6000+ AMD system with 4 gigs ram and 512 meg video card. Ran beautifully and fell in love. It's a LOT of fun, looks great and the gameplay is awesome.

Having said that, I purchased for my computer and had many problems with lockup, slowdowns and such until I turned settings to 640x480. I am running it on my personal computer which is a 3500+ AMD Athlon 64, 1 gig dual-channel 400mhz ram and a 256 meg 6800GT Video card. I can run every other game on the market with at least medium to high graphics in 1024x768 mode. Watch the requirements as this game seems to require a fairly high end computer. Other than that great game, lose one star for higher than normal hardware needs.

1 star this game is HORRIBLE

I have a very good reason for hating this game it flat out sucks. the basic theory is its a tactical shooter in which you hide behind cover. theres hardly anything to hide behind. often you will shoot at enemys only to die in one shot. SEE IF YOU GET HIT ONE TIME YOU DIE! awful design once i went down to an alley on a rope and got killed countless times before my feet hit the floor. horrible game design. a complete waste of 63 dollars. THIS GAME IS HIGWAY ROBBERY. please rent befire you buy.

Superb, addictive, and frustrating all wrapped up in one.

I will skip the good things that's rehashed by everyone else. here are some of my wish lists from the game:

- more in-between check-points. Or at least in normal mode. Nothing is more frustrating then playing the same place 30 times because you get killed in certain hard areas and have to start over from the last check-point. I know this adds more 'stake' for the player and increases the intensity of the game, but there are areas where it doesn't make much sense anymore. This is especially true in terroist hunt mode, where you are alone. One errand bullet from AK47 will set you back an hour of effort.

- ability to use a knife by slash/stab/throwing.
- ability to run or dive across a wide open field
- dual gun mode (yes, I know this is tactical game, but there are certainly places where I wish I could hold two dessert eagles (or two submachine guns) when you have tangos showering you with bullets while you are trying to put down covering fire.
- ability to split up your two-man team....This is critical if you want to flank out bad guys.

One other point, if you can find that riot shield (I did), make sure you use it.

It broke my Xbox 360!

It's an enjoyable game, no doubt, and the ranking system is a fun plus to the multiplayer, but the game broke my Xbox 360!

I was playing multiplayer in a full 14 player Attack and Defend (One team assults the map to achieve an objective, the other team does everything they can to prevent said objective) on the map called Calypso Casino (one of the most popular.)
It should be noted that I've played this map a multitude of times before without a problem any more grevious than internet lag.
It should be noted as well, that my xbox has been reading "Please insert this disc into an Xbox 360 console to view it" on many games that I play including Oblivion and Gears of War. It would show that error message several times before finally loading the game properly.

At any rate, I was on the attacking team and was just decending down over the rooftop on the rapells in the inverted position (head-first) for the purpose of clearing away a few enemies from the entry window. I watched a player on the enemy team make a rush for the rope and I was just adjusting my aim to pick him off when the game froze. (you can imagine my frutration)
At first i thought it was mere lag but it wasn't so. My entire system had froze. Even the controller failed to respond. I had to power the entire system off from the power button.
Now the disc will only give me the "put this disc in a 360" error every time I put it in my 360. Other games will play after a short struggle but Vegas is -forgive the pun- broke.

And no, I don't own a launch 360. Mine was purchased last May.

So you may want to consider this before purchasing. Perhaps your copy will behave for you.
