Save your money, It's as bad as they come

Other than the name and deceptive advertising this game is not star trek. The graphics are poor the animation is boring. The ships are unimpressive and have little to do with star trek. They lie about re-enacting star trek episodes. It's just a bunch of lousy battles that have nothing to do with the original or other series. Ships orientation is unrelated to travel direction. Warp drive takes you out of the game area. It does not came close to taking advantage of the xbox360. I am sorry I bought this game & wasted my money. Return it before you open for Christmas you or who ever gets it will be terribly disappointed

Not the greatest, but good.

In many ways this game is made after a Star Trek show (along the lines of the average Deep Space Nine or Voyager episode that goes absolutely nowhere), but instead of exploring, using diplomacy, meeting new races, you simply fly your starship around and blast the hell out of your enemies. In many ways it's a shame for those of us old-schoolers who played great games such as Star Control 2 and Starflight, because one gets the feeling while playing Star Trek: Legacy that this really could have been not just a great game, but an unforgettable and awesome game. Aside from that, the graphics are not all that great, but not bad either. When things explode, they kind of just break off into big pieces and all you can really do is lift your eyebrows to whoever designed that. However, in the midst of fighting, the graphics, especially when one fires a photon torpedo, are pretty nice at times. The soundtrack is good, but as another reviewer mentioned, it would have been really nice to have the original themes (and yes, even that terrible theme from Enterprise would have made me smile once or twice). Controls are alright, just take a while to get used to, like most games. The gameplay is average. You fly around, shoot, warp to another location, follow a preordained storyline and then voila, tu es finit. For what it's worth, that's not all that bad (it's much better than watching an episode from the first few seasons of Deep Space Nine or Voyager, for that matter), but I really would have liked to see them do something original, perhaps finish the storyline of the show Enterprise that for whatever dreadful reason was canceled before its time. Since you start off fighting the Romulans, it would have been nice to have the game go where the show Enterprise was going: to the eventual war with the Romulan empire, the nuclear attack on Earth, and the forming of the Federation of Planets and the creation of the neutral zone. This game really would have shined if you could have flown from star system to star system (like Star Control 2), meeting new races and being able to talk to them, visiting planets with a first or third person perspective, discovering and implementing new technologies, forming alliances and enemies by the way you use diplomacy, and having a sweet storyline develop amidst all that. But as things stand, you simply can't do that in this game. But for what it's worth, what you can do in this game isn't all too terrible, since it gives you the feeling of being amidst one of those great space battles we all love to see in the show. It's just that after the battles, the cut scenes and the story, you're left wondering, "What? Can that really be it? Can I really not do anything else?" So, in the end, is this game worth buying? Sadly, yes, due to the dearth of other titles of this genre currently out there. Even though I myself didn't buy this game (I received it for Christmas from my brother, along with a celestron telescope and a book, Toilet: The Novel, that I also highly recommend after I finished reading it yesterday)...I would still go and buy Star Trek: Legacy if I didn't receive it as a gift, because with the lack of Trek currently out there, no shows, a movie that may or may not be made, (and the show Battlestar Galatica slowly moving away from its origins into some silly boxing sitcom) this is really and truly all there is for the time being. Sad, isn't it?

It's no BC but still a great game.

This is a great game and I would buy it again. I still think that Bridge Commander is the best StarTrek game out.

The Good
This game has great graphics and some great voice talent. The game play is fun and has some great multiplayer and single player options.

The Bad
The subsystem targeting is there but is very poor and hard to pull off. If there was a better subsystem targeting then there might be a better ship repair system as well. The controls on the 360 are a bit hard but ok for this type of game. I think the controls will hold back the game a bit.

A game worth to play !

There have been many game's out based on the Star Trek brand and some have been decent for the time and the format it was on ! The Star Trek Legacy was released for many formats such as the xbox 360 . The graphics are the best i have seen in a long time for a game of this type . The controls for the ship's is not to hard but does have a learning curve . The sounds in the game are really well done and fit verry well for the game .
The different amount of ships you can play makes it fun , from hunting down the borg or being the borg to destroy everyone else . There are so many ships to select from , you will end up having a great time with any of them.
I have played other types of Star Trek games and liked them alot . So when i seen Star Trek Legacy was out for the xbox 360 . I placed my order for it ASAP .
Only thing i could say after playing it for awhile this was the best star trek game to date . The makers of the game really done everything well and have put out a great game !
If your into space ship fights or a star trek fan then i would say this game is for you !

Top of the pile, for Star Trek.

I have read some other reviews and I have no idea why anyone would have experienced a "learning curve" with the controls for this game, to be fair I wasn't expecting an ace combat clone in the first place, the only thing I have noticed is the controls locking up if I change between ships repeatedly, not that I haven't ended up up-side-down now and then, but I at least had an idea I wasn't right-side-up long before. The ships themselves are great, beautiful even, but a little to "class specific." Considering that each era would need to have almost completely different controls and handling I can forgive them the choice to make the game playable first. The story itself was the weakest part of the whole mix, but since Star Trek almost always seems to be burdened with to much story, be it continuity or just endless-endless talking, I really won't complain too much, the talking at least was kept to the minimum by Star Trek standards. The game itself is just fun to play, as a fan, but for a non-fan I don't think they would find it as much fun as I did. If you're a fan, you most likely will enjoy this game, and hope for more like it, if not, go play a star wars game; they are usually more "fun."

Great game for trekies and others

This game has gotten some bad reviews, but I disagree. The controls on the 360 are incredibly intuitive. You also get the hang of flying a bulky starship pretty quickly. Star trek fans will have great fun with the power distribution panel, which allows you to follow in the iconic footsteps of the great starfleet captains by diverting all power to shields, weapons, or engines. Also the concept of controlling a fleet of ships instead of a single ship, which at first seems tedious, quickly becomes fluid and natural. I think the only group who won't enjoy this game are gamers who are looking for a quick and simple shooter and who can't fully appreciate the strategy and tactics that I think make the game.

Authentic enough to be disappointing a bit.

I may not be the most die hard Star Trek fan but I do seek an adventure that is unmistakingly from the Final Frontier and that is accurate. With Star Trek Legacy, the structure and mapping of the game is so on point that it actually takes a bit away from the enjoyment.

This is of course is just one man's opinion, but when there are hostile encounters, a certain level of urgency motivates one to counter any offensive as quickly as possible. This just isn't likely when the ship controls and targeting systems and power distribution are so complex that one player cannot multitask said responsibilties with any ease.

I'm only on the second mission and regardless of having three other ships in my fleet, it is quite hard to switch off back and forth and destroy the entire wave of Romulan attackers in the time allotted. Others may not have this problem, but it is reducing my opinion of the game.

Regardless, other than no recognizable theme music, the voice cast lend creditability, and the graphics are nicely done. The gameplay is thought out in terms of functions, but not user friendly, IMO.

ver complicated!

First off, the graphics, music, sound.... etc is amazing no doubt! However, playing the game is not interesting at all. For example, there are way too many controls for the ship that one can not navigate fast enough to avoid attacks. I'm very disappointed!

Open World next time!

Decent single player game, can't review multiplayer.Somewhat like its little brother on PS2,just better graphics.Next game,I hope, will be open world,GTA style,w/o the violence of course.Next game should not worry about trying to put every Star Trek era in game, pick one,ENT,TOS,TNG,DS9,or VOY,and make it so!

Best Star Trek Game

This is written by a part time gamer who simply likes to enjoy a game. I find most games are far too difficult for the part time gamer even on the easy setting. All games should have a "Very Easy" option. I suspect that there are many others like me who would buy more games if they were not so difficult.

I thought the rest of the game was very good. I found two of the missions too difficult even on the Easy setting. I wish these really were easy. The controls were not all that intuitive either. Recommend people check out guides and walkthroughs.
