RPG that'll keep you busy

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

Nowadays when we hear of an RPG (Role Playing Games) we think of pokémon. One of the biggest RPG's that came out. Yea sure, we played this lil wonder and liked it, but do you really think that sending little monsters out to fight is as interesting as doing the job yourself? Before the poké time there was Earthbound. Think of it this way.

You're a normal teen living in Eagletown... Onett to be exact. And then a meteor crashes close to your home and upon finidng it you find that you have been chosen to save the world from something evil and powerful. Armed with a baseball bat and psychic powers you're off to the rescue (later on along with some friends).

One of the things that makes this game good is the naming. You could name your characters and your friends after people you know, making the game's impact more powerful. The length of the game is something else. It took me about a month to get through the whole game, and when you finish you look back at all you did and are really moved.
Then there are the enemies. Boy, these guys will make you laugh. Everything from runaway dogs to loaded dice (personal favorite) is in the game. You beat them in standard RPG stype but can do many things like psi powers, bash, use items.
The game has many twists and turns and is very unpredictable. One moment you are in one city the next you find you need to travel back to another, then back again. The difference in areas are also noted. The following are a short list of places you travel to:
Onett: hometown
Twoson: second city
Threed: Third city
Fourside: Biggest city and forth one too
Scaraba: Dessert
Dusty Dunes: Dessert
Winters: Ice
Summers: Vacation Beach Resort.

You can do a lot of exploring in this game, and it makes you feel that you actually exist in this game. Certain scenes move your emotions to the point that it means something to you. I mean seriously, how many games have you played and took the moral and message seriously and thought about it for a while. Earthbound does this.

Well there isnt much more to say. This is deffinetly a collecter's item and a great game to play. Although it is for the SNES, it certainly beats modern games. As for Earthbound64? To put it in a better way, when it got canceled, over 1 million people petitioned against it since they really liked the original game. After playing it, you will probably want to join their cause.

The Antidote to Boring RPG's

Most RPG's work on the set plot that a fantastic world in another dimension is in crisis as a single megalomaniac is trying to take over the planet. In these games characters are endowed with certain powers and personalities that reflect them. Though these characters all go through crises, they all come together at the end and defeat the villain. Happy ending and credits roll....
But that is not what happens in Earthbound. During the 1990's in the USA , your hometown is besieged by aliens. You must go out and defeat them and their leader before it is too late. That premise is tried and true (except for the "happening in your hometown during this decade" part), but the rest is not. The four characters in the game are quickly given realistic weapons and fun spells to utilize in the course of combat. Thrown into the mix are some puns, satire, and challenging battles. These factors gel into what is a solid gaming experience that overturns years of stale conventions and provides a refreshing alternative to nine-tenths of all RPG's. (I only give it four stars because the graphics are slightly dated.) If this game had succeeded, the gaming landscape would be entirely different, Square and Enix would have been blown away like the dinosaurs. But it failed and now most RPG's are pasty eye-candy. That fact only serves to make this game all the more substantial.

I first played this about 9 years ago (2007) on the snes (super nintendo) and i absolutely loved it.

It's an RPG. Instead of swords and magic spells you use yo-yo's and psychic powers.

The gameplay is nothing new.

Music is memorable/awesome.

writing is the best part. its sometimes sarcastic, dry, funny most of the time and it really pulls you into the story

overall this game is in my top 3 games ever! i highly recommend you play it, either buy it, or find it online, do whatever it takes. PLAY THIS GAME

total time to play is about 20-25 hours kinda short, but this is snes rmemeber

The list goes on and on. You Know what im talking about. The number of great RPGs on the Snes. Chrono trigger, final fantasy, breath of fire, Lufia, and many more included another great RPG: Earthbound. Its amazing im almost crying thinking about it. Snivel Snivel. There are no bad things about this game its chalenging yet fun i like the music it doesnt get old and its long. There is also one rare trait on this RPG:Humor. Not necessarally(Im 14 but i cant spell probaly cause i spend too much time playing my NES SNES and PS2)make u laugh until u cry but make u smirk and think. The story is also very original. Your a kid Ness or whatever u want ur name to be who lives in onnet well to not give it all away, but in the future theres a legend that 3 boys and 1 girl save the world from aliens.Ok i admit its a little weird but interesting and oringal. You are believed to be one of those boys. Anyway thats the basics of the story. Another great thing about this game is the fact that u have 4 charecters not the standered 3. I give it 10 out of 10. I and many others are dissapointed that a sequel never came out actually a prequel(well not really a prequel)was realesed on the NES in japan only under the title Mother.Sumhow it got converted into a rom and id available to play. Ive played it and its very much like Earthbound on the snes.I believe there was suposed to be an earthbound 64 but complications or sumthing and it was never released. If you have a Snes and u do do not have this game the only excuse is u havent heard of it.If u dont have a Snes then theres no excuse for u.Its a great system with great classic games.

This is a classic RPG. If you are a fan of video games, and have not played this game, it is a must. I loved Zelda link to the Past, liked the Final Fantasies, but this game tops them all. I first played it about 10 years ago, and I can still pop it in a play it and love it. BUY THIS GAME!

A long game!

Earthboud is a extemly long game. Anyway you start off in in bed and then you hear this crash. Your character(you get to name him) jumps out of bed and then you get control. There is a baseball bat in your room which is your first weapon. Once you go into the hall your sisters bedroom is the door on your right(you get to name her too). Your sister talks about the noise you heard. Once you finish talking to her go down stairs. Your Mom and dog will be there. Your Mother is worried and she tells you to be carful and to take the dog with you when you go outside. I do not want to tell you any more because this will spoil the game. Throughout the game new friends will join you and you will travel to differnt towns and fight all sorts of enemys. There are tons of weapons for you and your friends to get. The game is quite hard, but very fun. But you need the manul to figure out how to play. The game would be impossilble without it. Here are my final ratings for the game.

graphics B+ ( pretty good for super nintendo)
sound A( the music is weird but nice)
gameplay A(It's really fun until you get stuck)

overall A

Earthbound has to be one of the best games for Super Nintendo, in fact one of the best games Nintendo ever made, one of the best RPGs ever. I am not bullsh**ing. It is a great game. I was amazed at the graphics, storyline, bosses and overall the game when I first played it.You encounter evil spacemen, bad animals: such as bears, birds, bugs, moes and more),fight zombies, ghost, monsters and aliens on your adventure and much much more. Like any other RPG it will take time to beat but the hours you'll spend on this game will be fun. I did not own it originally but downloaded it. Though I heard the booklet that came with the game was pretty cool because you can smell the characters and stuff. It sucks that they never released the sequel they were working on entitled Earthbound Mother or something similar to that title. It was going to come out for Nintendo 64. I wish it did so I could kick pokey's ass. Oh well, EARTHBOUND for snes is a great game I would highly recommend to any fan of RPGs. Overall this game is

By far the best rpg I have ever played. Instead of a fantasy location, you are in modern day setting, and you go shopping for weapons and healing items at stores and resteraunts.
There's cool zanieness in it too. For instance, in Fourside, there is a meeting of the game desingers, but you can't go in. There are random times a camera guy comes and takes pictures, and sometimes the characters talk to you(the person playing the game.)

It's just so awesome. I so wish they would make it for Gameboy.

one of the greatest games

I've had this game for about 12 years, and I must say, its as much fun to play now in 2007 as it was when I first got it for free from a friend who was selling all of his snes stuff. I say that because if you want to get Earthbound now, you're going to be forking up almost as much as a brand new game for ps 2, x-box 360, or ps 3, maybe even more. However, this game is well worth it, I've never seen or played anything else much like it. It breaks away from the cliches of an rpg game, and basically follows through normal towns with weird, and at many times funny enemies, such as angry old men, hippies, ants, monsters inside trashcans, and many more. It's a pretty long game, but not too long. It's challenging, and it has something special about it that just makes it replayable, never getting old in the process. If I had to guess, I'd say I've beaten this game around 20-25 times in about 12 years, and it is tons of fun each time I beat it. It's well worth the money, if you have never played it, you must give it a try, it is the snes' best kept secret.
