The game is okay but begins to lack

Okay to start off the game is for those who like animes and I'd reccomend it if you like Robotech and Macross, but where it has these greatness you also have to REALLY like replay factor which this game has none of. To start by saying that the game is good is somewhat harsh in ways that will be explained.

First of all to make things clear, I DID NOT get this game for the MGS2 demo as so many others have. (Why do that when I own the game?) To me the game had very stylish graphics but the controls, while easy to learn, were confusing. The movie cutscenes were OK, not great just OK. The voice acting sorta lacked (and this is Hideo Kojima!) and the gameplay wasn't that bad.

The storyline is a bit complex but doesn't start to really come together until almost the end. This is more of an action/adventure RPG. By that I mean you get into an encoutner, you fight enemies and you might level up. Or you can skip it all and run away just like in an RPG. That means I'd say that battles are contact based.

As far as gameplay and lentgh go, this game is short as hell. With skipping the scenes it'll take you ALMOST less than an hour. But you won't even hit two hours. While watching the movie however, it'll take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes. So in order to say "buy this game" its has to have good replay, and that just isn't what this game has at all.

The only reason to go through the game is to get Versus mode and that isn't even worth it. So I wouldn't even bother with that.

The only reason I gave this game 3 stars instead of four was that it was easier than anything and had almost no replay. If it had replay and lentgh I'd probably give it 4. My advice to you is to simply rent the game rather than waste money buying it.

Awsome game

Z.O.E is a awsome game. It is very intense. I suggest this for any one who likes Gudam games or challeging games. THis game would have been a 5 star, but it is short. the ending really [stinks]. for being such a awsome game I expected a much better ending.

This is truly a very good game. Anyone who enjoys wizzing around through the air, slicing the heck out of some robot while driving a larger version of themselves should rent this game. Yes only rent. Unless you enjoy the two player battle mode or absolutely love anime plots, the game is too short to buy. It's about one night of work (6-8 hours). But anyway, I'd also reccomend this to Gundam fans instead of the game series of the same name. In my opinion this game is much better than those (the Gundam series).

it's a sleeper that should be wide awake

Ok, you've probably never heard of the cartoon and that's fine, you don't need to know anything about that to play the game. I've never seen it, and i doubt if I ever will watch it, and I'll explain why. The storyline is a little too similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion, a series that I hated. It's a reluctant boy hero who doesn't like the idea of killing. I don't care much for the dialogue, but the overall plot is tight. The cutscenes are well done in the beginning, but they taper off after awhile. The reason why you should buy this game though is cause of the fighting, which is almost all the actual gameplay is. You're sent on missions, and you can delay and ignore them to save civilians, and return to the plot later. Sounds ok, but to actually fight in a mech suit in a city is difficult.
The controls are great, and you have full 360 degree motion, but the problem is the buildings. Throwing an enemy suit into an apartment building and seeing both blow-up is cool, but not when your folks live in it. You have to fight enemy suits while trying to avoid civilian deaths. Not to difficult on normal, but on the higher difficulty settings The computer has a knack for attacking you in just the right angles so if you dodge civilians will die. Not every level has civilians, but general building destruction doesn't look good on you as a pilot. The rockets on your back are incredible, best I've ever played in a game. You can zig-zag towards or away from targets, do flips and other tricks.
For me, the great part is that normally in games, you hit a combo of buttons to pull of a stunt, or repeatedly tap the attack button to do ever fancier combos. Here, you're piloting the suit and it does what you tell it to do, so all the cool combos and flashy moves depend on your skills as a pilot. As you play you're mech gets faster and more weapons, and the enemies get a lot more difficult. Once you play through the game, you have the option of multiplayer combat. Not the best, but you both jet around so fast its interesting just to watch.
Overall, i gave it a four, cause the dialogue is kinda annoying at times and you can't just pick it up to battle your friends, you gotta play through it once first. I don't mind playing it over and over, cause its different based on decisions you make and how well you do, but thats not for everyone, some people just wanna fight one another.

What is up with the ... demo that came along with Z.O.E.?? Konami could've extended Z.O.E. in place of the demo that came with it. The game would've been maybe 10-20 hrs long!! GeeezzZZuZ ...! This game isn't worth ... but the graphics and story is. Konami could've done better by keeping the customer satisfied and happy. I was happy when I first played it but I was FURIOUS after the game was over. It didn't meet my expectations. I smell a rotten egg. I believe this game is going through a beta test to find out the comments and problem encountered before creating part 2 of the game. I was reading through GamePro magazine and found an article on the next Z.O.E. 2!! This next one will surely satisfy the fans because it will include 3 disks in it and maybe another demo, graphics will be 10x better than previous Z.O.E. and longer play time. Konami said that the whole point of the first Z.O.E. is to catch any bugs before launching the big Z.O.E. Yes you got it. Part two will be out late 2001 or early 2002 for all Z.O.E fans! This one will kick your ... off the couch.

Great game, could be better

Its is everything that it is said to be, great tunes and great play. But as with the PS2 there are still the aliasing problems. I drooled over the graphics and all the action, but the game was too short and easy. I was able to finish the game in a day, and with no guides and playing the game in a different language. Plus the story line was plain old, typical anime stuff. But for the many game and anime fans, especially Mechs and Robost. ZOE is a must have. As for me i spent a extra 100 bucks getting the limited edition, i dont know if it is available in the states, but the limited edtion comes with, soundtrack, DVD video, and art works. Do get the game but no guides, Youll end up getting laugh at, there game is pretty easy and straight forward.

If you like the Gundam Stuff You love this game"It's True"

Being a Fan of Gundam Wing I really didn't Know what I was Expecting out of this game but I do have to Say, Like All the Reviewers It's A game thats Worth it Ecspecaily to the Gundam Fans Out there, When I was Starting to Play this I was thinking about "Gundam Wing" manly because Thats How the game Exactly Controls like, a Arcade Style Gundam Mech Sim. Rather than the Typical Cruddy Mech Warrior "Simulation" controls, It's Graphics are Quite good for a PS2 game and the Sound was Nice and Loud(which I really wanted because My PS1 GAMES SOUNDED BAD)It's got Voice Problems but What can you Expect from a Most Japanese entertainment "INDEED...." and It comes with a Metal Gear Solid 2 Disc (which if you loved the First one [which everyone did] You'll Truelly LOVE this demo) which all and all make it a good buy so If You want a Gundam Style game(only it's not a gundam) Go Buy it

Too Short

This game was great graphically and it had a good plot, but it was too short, i was able to beat it in 6 hours total over 2 days. Also after you beat it you can't keep playing and revisit stuff, you just start off from your last save, so once you beat it, all that is left is versus mode, unless you saved early and kept it there. I reccomend renting this game.

better be a sequil soon!

When you first put this game in, after the opening scene, if you are familiar with metal gear solid you can tell that the game is made by the same people. After the first battle in the game you are just like, WOW!!! After the action stops, you want more; you get more. The controll is great! The sound is great! Story is great! why did I only give it 4 stars? The game is so short, I can't believe it. Thair better be a sequil to carrie on the story further more. As for the mgs2 demo, all the more reason to warrent a purchase.

Best mech game, average overall game, awesome MGS2 demo

SUMMARY: If you've always wanted to have high speed mecha action like in Gundam, Macross/Robotech, this IS the game. There is no other game that has ever come this close to the action and speed. If you're not, this is going to turn out to be a bit monotonous for you and way too short.

But ... everyone should see the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo included. By far the best thing that's on the PS2 right now. Buy it and show off your console. I won't review MGS2 here since it's all over the 'net and really, all I can do is praise it.

GRAPHICS: ZOE has amazing graphics. Period. The mechs, the cityscape, the action blurring, the enemies, the colored lighting, did I mention the mechs? Cut scenes are very impressive as well but aren't Final Fantasy level. You're not playing this game for the cut scenes though, trust me.

SOUND: The music of this game is very much Hideo Kojima's style. Complete with the eerie intro/menu music. While at first, the music seems really ambient/cool, it quickly gets annoying. As a friend said, "it sounds like this is where a beat would come in," but it never does. The sound effects, however, are perfect. They definitely draw you into the world.

GAMEPLAY: So far, the game seems pretty mediocre. Where it really shines is gameplay. There've been plenty of mecha games released in the past years. Some were too simplistic, others way too complex. Somehow, ZOE manages to make it just right (well ok, maybe SLIGHTLY on the too simple side). I watched other people play the game for the first time and like myself, they quickly got addicted to the pace of the game and the sheer fun and style of beating up evil robots with an arsenal of weapons. The game even expects you to start playing without knowing anything, because it launches you into the game as a child who shouldn't be in the cockpit. Not until you kill the first robot does the system put you through a training program. Very nicely integrated help system.

STORY: You're not really playing a game like this for the story but I did expect one from Hideo Kojima. Alas, this part is the weakest link in the game. The story is too short (and no, it's not because MGS2 took up space - MGS2 is on another CD), and very very annoying. It was incredibly cliched and in the end, I just wanted to kill the character I was playing =)

REPLAYABILITY: There isn't much replayability in ZOE other than the VS mode, which you can only play if you finish the game. My beef is only that there is a very poor selection of mechs to choose from for this mode, but there are a few choice ones that definitely make it fun. Nevertheless, replayability is low.

OVERALL: I rate this game 4 stars despite it's annoying music and short story for several reasons: - it's the best in its genre - it's one of very few games with good graphics on PS2 - MGS2 demo alone helps bump up the score by a star
