Intense fun!

A great game, thousands of people are still playing online. Most online sessions have at least 20 people playing at one time and the battles are intense! I rarely notice any lag online and have never lost the connection.

This game requires a lot of strategy, you really have to work as a team to get anywhere. The Xbox360 achievements are extremely challenging to get but really inspire you to play the game better. To get them all you have to master every soldier class and vehicle. The achievements are split fairly evenly between multiplayer and single player modes.

The single player mode is alright but you'll probably spend most (if not all) of your time playing over Xbox Live. This is my favourite Xbox360 game and I highly recommend buying it if you're up for a challenge.

Hardcore Gamers Only

So, like most of us with a new Xbox 360, we've all downloaded the demo of this game on Xbox Live and grown to love the one level available for play. Some of us have probably even developed some decent skills. While this is grand and a great way to spend some time having fun, I believe the demo of this game is very misleading.

The game's official page boasts of 16 huge maps in which to wage multiplayer warfare. While this is true, all 16 maps are indeed playable, only 3 or 4 will ever be seen by the average gamer. Why, you may ask? Battlefield's online play operates on a popularity scale, in which players may vote on which maps are used. 99% of the time, the choices are A Bridge Too Far (from the demo) and Backstab, a heartwrenching adventure set within a Muslim city. While these choices are fun on their own, what happened to the other 14 maps? Unlike its PC predecessors, Battlefield 2 offers no option of the multiplayer game offline, that is, without all the hardcore gamers voting on which maps to use. This is extremely frustrating.

The second problem I had with this game and the demo was that in the demo, you're playing against other newcomers. Once you buy the actual game, you're exposed to people who obviously have no life whatsoever outside of playing this game, and have no qualms about making you miserable. These people apparently have no jobs, girlfriends, or exposure to sunlight, and have devoted countless hours on the playing of this game. Many of them are supposedly in the military, which makes playing with them unbearable if you're not in the military yourself. The other group consists mainly on immature adolescent boys. The learning curve is extremely steep in this manner, and unless you're absolutely dominating the demo version, you're going to have a rough time with this.

Speaking of playing online, expect to lose your connection quite regularly. The EA server is troublesome at best, and no work is being done to correct this issue. Thanks guys.

The other problem is the campaign mode, which highly differs from the ones in previous games. Campaign mode is nothing at all like the multiplayer version, there is no spawning once you've been killed, and as such, you only have once chance to get things right. There are no difficulty settings, so unless you're a master, don't expect to get very far at all. Your AI teammates in campaign mode will not be much help, and usually die within 15 or 20 seconds of the start of the mission.

Overall, the game does have amazing graphics, with very much attention paid to detail. The controls can be a bit clunky, especially when operating the vehicles. The campaign mode is much more realistic than multiplayer, as there is no respawning of soliders once they die, but the learning curve is incredibly steep.

Bottom line: Unless you're a hardcore gamer who has hours on end to devote to this game, you're better off looking somewhere else.

Does not live up to its pc counterpart

Im a huge fan of the pc Battlefield series. A veteran of a tour in bf2, special forces, armored combat, 2142. I went into this game thinking that it would simply be a less buggy version of the pc game.
I was quite wrong. The controls are decent, but you have to turn the sensitivity all the way up and it still turns about half the speed of a mouse, which results in slow paced, generally disorienting combat situations.
And to highlight the slow pace, where is the sprint button!? No more running and jumping then going prone into a good firing position, the controls are way too slow for that. This feels more like the pc version on tranquilizers when it comes to the controls. Jump is not very responsive and you'll have a hard time jumping over anything larger than your teamates corpse.

No more squads either, the x-box live games do support enough players for small squads but the game does not offer the option. Too bad, I guess teamwork is out of the question. No commanders either. This puts you out on the battlefield as a lone soldier, there are definitely moments where you are with your teammates fighting against the enemy but at times its difficult to locate them and coordinate attacks.

The voice chat is better on xbox than on the pc because you can speak to your entire team.

Aside from all that, the game looks great, it just plays a little sluggish and the possibility for coordinated tactics is greatly decreased with the loss of squads and commanders.

The most common words u'll hear in this game, which still echo in my head as I write this: WE'VE TAKEN FLAG FOUR!!!!!!!!
well, good for us
Anyhoo, this is a beautiful game with a fun combat engine, and it is great for Xbox live too!!!!! There are also like 12 different vehickles in which to kick some Chinese booty!!!! No offense to anyone, i just never choose china because i don't know what their anouncer is saying!
Overall, a great game definitely worth adding to your collection. A KAGILLION times better than Perfect Dark Zero (gamers know what im saying)!!!!

One of the better online games available for xbox360

The xbox360 version has much better graphics (than xbox) but game play is pretty much the same. The single player mission is fun, but it's not nearly as exciting as the multiplayer. In fact, I never finished the single player game since I am urged to go play the multiplayer every time. It's incredible how easily it is to become addictive to the multiplayer game. When you play ranked games, your stats are uploaded to the EA server and you get to see how you are doing compared to others. You will earn medals, game points and achievement points based on your performance--a definite motivation to keep playing to see how far you can go up the ranks. I'm also glad that the EA server is much more stable than when it first launched the game. Yes, occasionally, the EA server hangs up.
This game deserves 4 stars instead of 5 because there need to be more multiplayer maps. There are 16 so far, but you will find that people continue to constantly play only 2 maps --Bridge Too Far and Backstab. I guess you can create your own game with a less played map. Also, it's very hard to get together for Clan matches going.

I will admit I haven't played the single player much. After getting it, I played single player for a few hours, and then once I was ready for Live! I logged in. I never went back. Battlefield 2 is a game that was meant to be played in Live. I haven't gone back to Call of Duty or Ghost Recon since buying this great game. The online game play consists of many unique maps and there are always plenty of people online to play with (a problem on many other games). Buy the game. You won't be dissapointed. It is the most requested game on our website right now.

Very Impressive

Online play is where this game really shines, and while the single player is a joke compared to the live version, you can still use it to practice your shootin or drivin skills. When it comes to playing people who kick your butt well sometimes your that person blowing up groups of people with tanks or helicopters. If you can take a little punishment while giving a little then this won't be a factor. Personally I enjoy the clan fights where you create a group of experienced friends and take it to another group. So if your into lots of mayhem on the battlefield then this game is for you. If not, I hear they have Uno online.

Difficult

For those never-sleeping gamerpoint seekers steer clear of this title, the acheivements are difficult to take advantage of, aside from this and the very average single player, is the multiplayer, a strong cast of both classes and weapons are represented beautifully on several maps which can supply hours of entertainment as you increase your level (colonel, sargeant etc.). The weak campaign is only partially redeemed by the intense multiplayer combat, veterans of the past battlefield titles should thoroughly enjoy this new addition but I reccomend renting the game prior to buying it, well it doesn't really matter considering the game is 20 dollars, overall I reccomend this to veterans of battlefield, fans of FPS's and people interested in a challenge.

All right,
This is a game that requires dedication and many questions to figure out many of the tricks gamers use to find and kill their opponents. Trust me, to have fun and not become angry for getting smashed every two seconds you must play and play. But of course, that is why the ranking system exists. As you play and earn points you tend to get promoted. As you advance in the ranks you need medals. So, if you cheat getting medals, you will be in a world of hurt.
If we talk about the server issues. GOD! someone help EA games out. The servers become so bogged down on the weekends it is not even funny. And most when the XBOX 360 consoles were available in stores and the game was really discovered by the new users. So come on, add more servers or something. This game is not going out of fashion anytime soon. Help us by helping yourselves EA.
