Unplayable and boring

I bought this game because I loved New Super Mario and wanted to find another game I found addictive. First of all, this game is for little kids. But I can't imagine anyone enjoying it. It seems like it has no point. Sonic speeds through this "roller coaster" type course that goes so quickly it's not possible to follow. And there is nothing really to do. There is no challenge value, all you do it push the forward button and sonic moves really quickly until he gets to the end of the course or runs out of time. Maybe I missed the point of this game, but I wasted my money on this purchase.

I used to love playing the Sonic games on my Sega Genesis so I was very excited to receive this game. I played for about 5 minutes and put it back in its box. Boring, boring, boring... I doubt I'll ever play it again.

Not as fun as I expected....

After reading all the other reviews, I expected a great game. I have to admit, the last Sonic game I played was the Genesis one. Maybe the franchise has gone other places, but I personally just didn't like playing this game. Specifically, my biggest problem was not being able to see the levels very well. The colors are very muted and often have little contrast. One of the things I love about most other DS games (the new Super Mario Brothers, for example) is how vibrant and easy on the eyes the levels are. With this game, Sonic (or Blaze), along with the path you are running on, seems to blend into the background. That might be fine for some games, but when a game's emphasis is on speed and rapidly moving through the levels, there needs to be better visual cues. Just my 2 cents.

When i first got this game i was expecting to be very easy . but it was wrong it was extreamly hard and frausrating as it can be " its just like playing a poratable version of sonic heroes the characters go friggin fast which makes it easy for caution mistakes , and thats just not fair at all but I'll get back to the difficulty later on in this review

Gameplay 6/10

It could've been better though , the buttons are just so hard to control , i just think sonic team only made this game for people with smart skills its just so hard

Sound 3/10

the voice acting is annoying in this game for some reason . its mostly annoying when im being frausrated with a certain area in this game .

Music 9/10

Now it does have some catchy tunes in there , but its just not fun to here them while youre being frausrated with the game .

The game is just so hard " And i only got 3 chaos emeralds the 4th special stage is just impossible to beat , and i been stuck on this carnival level ever since december and im even stuck on it with blaze Im just losing all hope in knowing im gonna beat the beat when im not , But the game could've been better if they just made it easy

But if you like challenging games then this is the game for you

Classic Sonic Game .. Not so fun ..

I didn't really like this game, I guess if you like all the other sonics, this is basically the same, nothing different. I remember liking Sonic when I was little, but now it doesn't seem like there's a point. You just always press the right arrow and Sonic runs and you just watch him run for like every level (well, I've only tried the first two before I became bored, but I'm quite sure that's how the rest of the levels go).

Fast, but not fun. At all. Ever.

This game is apparently all about speed. Sure, I'll give it that, but nothing else! Every time you die in this game it'll be because you didn't memorize the stage. You'll suddenly stumble into a platforming area from the usual hi-speed pointless loops with NO WARNING. Seriously, it's not difficult, per se, just annoyingly cheap. Once you memorize the stage it's easy peasy, but who in the right might wants to do that? The enemy placement is total bogus as well. With as fast as sonic moves, and how small the ds screen is, not even a drag racer's reaction time is good enough for this game at times. You're going to pile into enemies and lose your rings a lot. With the Castlevania titles, new super mario brothers and yoshi's island 2 (which I didnt particularly enjoy) don't bother with this one. "It stinks!"

Also, the audio quality. The music is okay. The sound effects are worse than most NES titles, possibly some Atari 2600 titles. They're low bitrate, crackly audio catastrophes. Stealing the original Genesis sound effects would have been much much better. That, and someone needs to cram a sock in Tails' mouth.

This is the only review I've ever felt obligated to write, because I regret purchasing this game that much. It's absolute garbage.

You do not do anithing,it moves fast without you pushing but one button. when you do interact it is very repetitive.
I did not like it at all.

A ton of fun, but very, very short.

Having enjoyed Sonic Advance I was eager to get my hands on Sonic Rush. With brilliant graphics and the fastest gameplay yet in a Sonic game it sure does make for a great video-game experience. But there's just not enough of it and not much is made of the Nintendo DS potential outside of some slight touch-screen interaction and a tall graphics.

As always the levels range from tropical islands to mechanical metropolis with all the usual powers ups, springs and speed barriers. They are brilliantly designed and contain so many loop-the-loops and massive jumps that you'll go cock-eyed. The sheer speed that you can fire through the levels is amazing. The music top-notch too and there are loads of cool tunes.

You can play as Sonic, with his usual abilities, or as Blaze the Cat, who has her own mission opposite Sonic. Obviously this involves defeating Doctor Eggman, but you now have a 'rush' ability which acts as a booster to make Sonic or Blaze go even faster.

My major complaint is with the Special Stages. They are the same as the were in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, involving the 3D tunnels. And they are impossible. The one that I actually managed to enter requires 160 rings to catch the Chaos Emerald. Not only do I not think there were even 160 IN the whole stage but it's impossible to keep a hold of them as there are so many dangerous obstacles and traps. Plus, you control Sonic with the stylus pen in this stage and it's not got such a great response.

And the last boss is impossible also. There is no way to defeat Doctor Eggman and the controls frequently contradict each other, it's all down to bad programming. The game sure has a few bugs (nothing major) that should have been sorted out.

So apart from the special stage and the final boss, the game is just too damn easy and has nothing to bring you back for more. Yes, I had loads of fun playing it but it would be only worth the money if it were longer and had more to it.

A step in the right direction

This game has a lot going for it, the most notable feature being a return to two-dimentions with 3D elements. The concept of blazing speed and a game that practically played itself never quite translated properly to 3D, which I personally attribute to the extra space. Back in two dimentions it's possible to present the player with a fast paced course that will yank control away and give it back in just the right dosage to get the adrenaline flowing and at the same time present the player with a sense of unbroken speed.
I'd also like to heap praise upon Sonics stylus controlled Sonic 2 style bonus stages, and I found that the hang glider stage and the return of old classics like gravity varied levels, hydroplaning, and spiral loops have at last returned in a manageable 2D format, and a decent soundtrack is once again overlaid with this newest offering. The introduction of jump tricks and Sonics "dash meter" add an almost Tony Hawk feel to large jumps and ramps, and give the player something new to do while the game plays itself.
However, this game has several flaws that I simply couldn't get past. For one thing, the game suffers from the same campy dialogue and didactic "let's all be freinds" messages that have plagued the House of Sonic for the better part of ten years now. The introduction of yet another new character is (for a change) welcomed in the form of Blaze, whose fire special effects make her an interesting play. The next note is a problem that I have encountered hasn't really been faced by Sonic games in the past. There are an inordinant number of bottomless death pits, which breaks strictly from Sonic tradition. The idea of instant death upon failure to successfully complete a jumping puzzle has appeared before in the sky levels, however, in this game almost every stage comes with a large pitfall with no alternate route at the bottom. The third issue I take with this game is the redundant bosses from stages 1 and 5 respectively, who present the player with an almost identical challenge. Last, I find that this is probably the most easily defeated Death Egg variant that I've ever palyed against, and I'm deeply dissapointed. I would call everyone to remember the Death Egg from Sonic and Knuckles, that presented the player with a genuine challenge the likes of which this newest Death Egg (or whatever we like to call the end game giant robot boss these days) does not.
Overall I'm very happy to see Sonic back in two dimentions, but I'm afrad that he's still getting bogged down with some of the campy sidekicks and failed experiments from his 3D career, and that unfortunately weighs down my opinion of this game, but I would still reccomend playing it, I'd just suggest that you borrow it from a freind rather than pay the full retail for it.
