Fun game with a little bit of annoyance

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 5

First things first. It is Sonic. It features a fast paced game play. Good quality overall. Entertaining.

But the story is, like Sonic's always been, absolutely horrible and the dialogues of Sonic and his little animal friends with oversized eyeballs will make anyone mature enough wanna throw the game away.

The game features 2 playable characters, Sonic and Blaze. They have their own storyline and missions to complete but they're so similar and they practically go through same levels just in different orders.

Each level consists of 2 rounds and a boss fight. Boss fights are a huge let down. ALL OF THEM ARE SO SIMILAR THEY'RE NOT DISTINGUISHABLE. YOU'RE ALWAYS ON EITHER A RING OR A LINE AND U TIME AND U JUMP ON TOP OF A HUGE MACHINE THAT EGGMANS RIDING ON. AFTER THAT ANOTHER HELLISH BORING DIALOGUE. THANK GOD YOU CAN SKIP THIS PART.

Oh, and by the way the new Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 and XBox360 is reviewed as ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

I really believe that Sonic, once a beloved mascot of a gaming giant Sega, is now created by some amateurs with cheap bugget. Sonic hasn't been in his prime for a while but this is rediculous.

If you're a sonic fan, you should buy this, as there are no other decent Sonic games being released for a while :P Maybe Sonic for Wii is good but from what I've seen over last 5 years or so I wouldn't bet on it.
(Also traditionally 2D Sonic games received better reviews than 3D ones)

Sonic rushes back to his former glory

Sonic must have run through a few too many loops on his early Genesis exploits, because he got dizzy and lost sight of what made him so great when his games popped up on 3D consoles. Since the Dreamcast's Sonic Adventure, I've felt that the blue blur's been suffocating and he needed to find that elusive air bubble to catch his breath and float back up to the top. With the DS's Sonic Rush, he's done just that. Sonic Rush is the best Sonic game since the Genesis.

I have to admit that Sonic Rush has a story that bored me to death. It's the same idea as every other Sonic title -- Sonic has to chase down Eggman in order to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds and stop his evil plans. The only real difference is the introduction of Blaze the Cat, who is basically a female, pink, feline version of Sonic that is a little fireier than her blue counterpart. She's got a separate, equally-long quest of her own with a slightly different story, and she searches for the Sol Emeralds rather than the Chaos Emeralds. When it comes down to the gameplay, though, I didn't really worry about why I was running rapidly through forests and deserts. I didn't have time to.

This game is just as fast and smooth as any traditional Sonic fan would want it to be. Each of the seven Zones (which feature two Acts each, making 14 levels for each character) is comprised of several different paths, loops, elevators, bumpers, pits, and more. Simply put, it's one of the most frantic games in the series. The action plays out on both the top and bottom screen of the DS in every level, and you'll always have to watch out when you hit a bumper and fly into the air or dive underwater and explore the depths. None of this detracts from the speed, and the game runs very smoothly regardless of how fast Sonic or Blaze is running. The use of both screens as well as the levels being a bigger challenge makes the experience slightly harder than I expected. I had frequent deaths, annoying restarts from checkpoints, and the like. This stuff was pretty grating but it just pushed me to play better, and there wasn't a single death that made me want to stop playing the game. It's only seven Zones long, which means that a single sitting could be enough time to finish the entire game, but earning grades on each of the level and trying to achieve a high score was enough incentive for me to replay most of the levels.

Despite all of this crazy speed, the game controls well. There are a few new moves that differentiate the "hold the right button and jump occasionally" control scheme of past Sonic games. Sonic and Blaze can bust a few tricks in the air that fill up a meter on the left side of the screen. This meter allows both characters to execute a dashing move that kills enemies and propels you forward even faster than normal. Each character also has their own attack that is mapped to the right trigger button. Sonic does his dash-jump made a staple by Sonic Adventure, and Blaze does a little hover move that kills enemies. Combat in Sonic is a little difficult at first, as the game moves so quickly that it's tough to even see enemies on the screen. It eventually turns into a twitchy reflex to hit the dash button and kill enemies in your path, and in the closed-in areas of the game, finishing off your foes is as simple as using the R-trigger attack.

I have to mention my favorite part of the entire game. Actually, by "part" I mean "parts". In every Zone there are hidden objects that propel you into the half pipe coin-collecting stages from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. These stages are controlled using only the stylus, which makes them a lot of fun to control. By collecting coins and attacking enemies, as well as dodging obstacles, you finish these stages and find the seven Chaos/Sol Emeralds in the game.

Visually, Sonic Rush brings the beautiful, colorful 2D style of past Sonic games to the DS with polygonal, detailed character and enemy models. Adding to that are 3D boss fights at the end of every Zone. As I said, the game runs very smoothly and never hiccups, even when I would slam into enemies and lose all of my coins. The music goes well with the game, as it is a fast-paced rock and electronica mix that stimulates the action even more. The only annoying factor is the voices in the game. Sonic Rush is simple, fun and visually appealing to any Sonic fan. It isn’t perfect; the game is definitely too short. For the gameplay found here, though, it's one of the best DS platforming games out there. Sonic fans, grab a DS and enjoy yourselves.

Exhilarating, addictive throwback to the originals...

Sonic Rush hearkens back to the original four games for Genesis, achieving something very close to the original formula. However, with the addition of the trick system and the standing dash, this game FAR outpaces the originals; in terms of sheer speed and cool factor, this installment is the best yet. You'll find yourself replaying levels not just because you've missed things but simply because they're so fun and well-crafted. The boss fights alone are easily the best and most inventive yet.

The music, although an landmark change from Dreams Come True, is a leap ahead of anything since Sonic & Knuckles--Jet Grind Radio's Hideki Naganuma nails Sonic's speed and attitude perfectly with his dance-beat funk/ska/hip-hop; the soundtrack is worth listening to on its own. Personally, as much as I love DCT's original soundtracks, I desperately hope Hideki returns to compose for the next Sonic game.

If you're expecting something along the same lines as the Sonic Advance titles, you will be (very happily) surprised; this game has slick production values, none of the campy level design or music, and somehow the story (although based on the rather lame Sonic X cartoon) actually made me care.

You may also be wary of "Blaze," after all the god-awful games made starring lame side-characters. Even Tails has become annoying of late. But rest assured -- Blaze has nothing to do with that tripe. Blaze actually makes a better companion to Sonic than any character prior to her. She's fun to play, and her tricks and speed are different enough from Sonic to make her worth playing. She's the reason the story is interesting. It's only too bad that the franchise is forever weighted down with all the Sonic X junk.

Here's hoping that the next Sonic Rush DS game features a Sonic/Blaze multiplayer campaign!

Why do you people hate this masterpice??!!

This game is great!!!!!! The only problem is that you move way too fast. But of course that's the point of a Sonic game. I reccomend it.

When i first got this game i was expecting to be very easy . but it was wrong it was extreamly hard and frausrating as it can be " its just like playing a poratable version of sonic heroes the characters go friggin fast which makes it easy for caution mistakes , and thats just not fair at all but I'll get back to the difficulty later on in this review

Gameplay 6/10

It could've been better though , the buttons are just so hard to control , i just think sonic team only made this game for people with smart skills its just so hard

Sound 3/10

the voice acting is annoying in this game for some reason . its mostly annoying when im being frausrated with a certain area in this game .

Music 9/10

Now it does have some catchy tunes in there , but its just not fun to here them while youre being frausrated with the game .

The game is just so hard " And i only got 3 chaos emeralds the 4th special stage is just impossible to beat , and i been stuck on this carnival level ever since december and im even stuck on it with blaze Im just losing all hope in knowing im gonna beat the beat when im not , But the game could've been better if they just made it easy

But if you like challenging games then this is the game for you

I bought this game because I loved New Super Mario and wanted to find another game I found addictive. First of all, this game is for little kids. But I can't imagine anyone enjoying it. It seems like it has no point. Sonic speeds through this "roller coaster" type course that goes so quickly it's not possible to follow. And there is nothing really to do. There is no challenge value, all you do it push the forward button and sonic moves really quickly until he gets to the end of the course or runs out of time. Maybe I missed the point of this game, but I wasted my money on this purchase.

Sonic Rush... Blaze is the Best!

I've never really been a 'Sonic' fan, but when I opened up my Christmas present to find a Nintendogs Pak (pink) and Sonic Rush, I was quite suprised. After playing nintendogs non-stop for four days(its a brilliant game!), I finally opened up my Sonic Rush. It was difficult at the start but soon I got the hang of it. After completing Zone 1 and the extra hard 'VS BOSS' bit, I got onto zone 2 and was able to play as Blaze the Cat. I think Blaze is much better than sonic (sorry all you Sonic fans!) but thats maybe because I'm a girl.

After playing Sonic rush, I think its a good game. It seems that its quite a long game which is good. I've never played a Sonic game before but now after playing this game, I might consider it. The graphics are'nt as good as nintendogs and using the touch screen is only used on special stages which I find really dissapointing. Apart from that its a great buy for all you Sonic fans. Even girls!

P.S I love the music!!

Fun!

This is exteremly fun but alot harder. Okay, you can play as 2 characters in this game (which is a dissapointment). They are Blaze and Sonic. Sonic is just being Sonic but with new moves and 3-D twists. Blaze, is different, you get her Sol Emeralds by beating bosses, but Sonic, you have to find the teleport thingy and go through all those steps you know. Blaze is neat because she is about fire. When she runs, fire is right behind her. And for once, the story makes sense in a Sonic game! But the one flaw is that this game gets really hard at about Zone 5. You will just want to give up because the game isn't addicting. But the biggest flaw is that all you can do is Story Mode, not even Time Trials! This game is fun, until it gets hard, but you she'll still buy it. So buy it.
