When Soul Blade and Soul Calibur came out, this series had one of the most beautiful graphics you've ever seen. This is the same with SOUL CALIBUR 3. This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Characters are well designed, and this time around, you can make your own characters. Cool. Add to the fact that you unlock more characters the longer you play, it has the potential for months.
The fight engine is pretty much similar to its predescessors, except for some new added moves. Controls are responsive and when you fight, you see the characters grimace in pain when they get hit. You can't do too many combos which I think is cool, however, as with any Namco FIGHTING GAME, when you are up in the air you are quite helpless.
The quest is an upgrade over the SOUL CALIBUR 2. I haven't finished it yet but I like what i see thus far.
Game arenas vary from EUROPEAN, CHINESE, JAPANESE AND MEDIEVAL. Some environments are more interactive than others while some are too colorful that it gets distracting at times. This is a disadvantage when you are trying to focus on beating the tar out of your opponent.
All in all it is a great game worth playing and to keep in your collection. It is on par with TEKKEN 5 and DEAD OR ALIVE 3.It has some features that is above the 2 mentioned games, I would recommend buying it.

How can you say this game is 4 stars, thats insane, I mean, it has story (DOA lacks of it), it has various wepons for all the characters (DOA is still with punches), you can create your own character (no fighting game has this awesome feature),a lot of stages (there are ring outs, yes, but, how cares, havent you seen the number of stages the game has (a lot more than DOA you jerk) and online, well it doesnt have, but who cares, only you care and belive me xbox isnt worthy of this game, ps2 yes, gc of course yes (even though there is no cube version), so the deal is: WHY YOU WANT IT FOR XBOX; IS IT MAYBE BECAUSE YOU WANT SPAWN AGAIN IN THIS TITLE, BELIVE ME SPAWN DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SOUL CALIBUR (HE DOESNT MATCH), THE TEKKEN OLD MAN NEITHER BUT STILL HE IS BETTER THAN SPAWN, LINK DOESNT EITHER HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS GAME BUT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT LOOKS FROM THE TIME THIS IS LOCATED.

So the thing is:
You like fighting games; buy it
You dont like them; why are you reading this review
You liked the last soul calibur; the answer is obious, buy it
You love Spawn and want an xbox version of this game; dont even bother, better buy that crappy spawn game

So people be inteligent, this game is THE FIGHTING GAME, dont wait for DOA4, buy this, DOA is more a fan service than a fighting game but still it is a good one, but make yourself a favor and buy this first then you decide if buy or not buy the DOA4

Great Game.

One word horrible. You can't win! It's almost impossible to exexute a move without getting your [back] kicked! I stongly suggest that you do not buy this game. Go with prince of persia the two thrones instead. Now THAT'S a good game.

utterly worthless, all talk and no walk, a total waste of $50

i totally agree with the person who said that this game is host to some of the worst AI in the history of video games.

great, the computer knows how to use the same move 9 times in one round, wonderful. don't bother trying to get past their blocking, don't even think about using a throw move, because it'll get reversed, you'll get knocked onto the ground and then you're attacked 6-7 times before you can even move. but hey, maybe you'll get them down to half health, or maybe within one hit of a victory, but since they have a hard-on for blocking and whatever it's called when they throw your move off, you're not going to win.

when are video game creators, namely Namco who is notorious for this, going to learn that just because 2 characters have a related story doesn't mean they need to have nearly the exact same moves.

what happened to the good old days of street fighter 2, when fighting games were actually worth a damn? well, nowadays it's all about graphics, all looks and no heart, that's exactly what SC III is. i like the second Soul Calibur, but this one is just a joke of a fighting game.

ALMOST as bad as the last Virtua Fighter game, i think i'm just going to sell all my video games.

Worst fighting game ever

This is the worst fighting game ever!!! It doesn't stand up to Tekken 5. It shakes, shivers, and wets its pants at the thought of Tekken 5. If you want a great fighter go out and get Tekken 5. It doesn't even stand up to Tekken Tag Tournament!!!

(this review is comeing from the tgs (tokyo game show) playable version of the game)ok from what i seen at tgs this game is very solid and very fun, even though i couldnt read most jappanise the game has a in deapth char creation system from eyes to hair ETC.

but the major thing of this game is the modes the modes presented at tgs was... cronicles of the sword which is basicly a rts version * note this is an all new type of game*, your avrage 1v1 *speaks for its self*, char create *speaks for its self*, story, and char edit which is a greate idea cuase i hate nightmare and now you can make him pink!! i know its stupied but hey it'll make your friends luagh

this game also features 3 new chars none of which i know the names of * i played the japan version member*. but this game sorta fails in the part of environments, unlike doa this game uses the old "Ring Out!" type of stages but now there are borders in the stages you can break your opponite through (Doa clone much?)

while im trying the american version i had fun with the jappanise but htis game lacks in online support by not going to xbox (ps2 live sucks) so its a basic 4.5 out of 5 or 9 out of 10

Sony and Namco Flip the Bird to 2/3 of Customers

Soul Caliber 3 is only available for PlayStation. My sons and I loved Soul Caliber 2 and we were eager to buy the new game, but it was not meant to be. I own two games systems, X-Box and Game Cube, and that's enough. I guess if Sony and Namco don't want the business from two thirds of their customers, then that's their decision. Good luck with that.

I also know that I'll never buy another computer, television, camera, or anything else made by Sony, or any games made by Namco.

Feels like a 6 year old game !!!

I would agree with anybody that the 1999 Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was a Masterpiece. I really loved that game. But that was 6 years ago!

There is nothing new about Soul Cabibur 3. It's just the same old stuff that you had already played for hundreds of hours years ago.

There are a few new moves and combos, but the new moves just turn the game into a "Button Masher". Which means you can easily beat the game by rapidly mashing the attack button. The previous games made you think a little about your strategy, but now there is NO strategy or real skill involved.

Plus it's on Playstation, so you know what type of graphics your getting (the worst graphics out of the 3 systems).

Great gameplay and graphics

I loved Soul Calibur 2 for the Xbox and for all the same reasons, I love SC 3 for the PS2. It has great replay value both as a single player and playing against friends. It has great gameplay with smooth framerates and some new characters. It is only 480p, so it is not quite as sharp as the 720p Xbox version of SC 2, but it still looks great. If you loved SC 2, then it is worth getting SC 3.
