Great Multi-player...but I can't say that for the single-player.

Anyone who's played Metroid Prime or Prime 2 knows about their single player and how deep it is. Not so much for MPH's single player. It has a decent story about a telepathic message that was sent telling about how the secret to the ultimate power lies within the Alimbic Cluster. The Galactic Federation sends power house bounty hunter Samus Aran to find out the mystery of the telepathic message. But Samus won't be the only bounty hunter on the job, 6 others are racing to find the ultimate power. The single-player is somewhat fun but quite repetitive. This is how each time a level goes. You go into a level, you fight some enemies(There aren't even that many varieties of enemies, they're just different versions of it), you solve some easy puzzles, you fight a bounty hunter(or hunters), you find 3 artifacts, you take a portal to a boss fight(There are only 2 actual octolith bosses, they're just different versions that have been tweaked a bit), you get the octolith and evacuate. That's it and the only thing that changes is what level you're in. I'd have to say that the first four octoliths(There are eight, hence the name) are pretty fun since it's the first time you're in the level. But the last 4 are pretty boring, you just cover the same ground with a few extra rooms and follow the same pattern mentioned above. The hunters aren't really even implemented into the game, after meeting up with them you engage in a short 2-3 minute fight. They change planets(Or space stations) and you can fight them again but, they're really easy. In a game called Metroid Prime HUNTERS, you'd expect the hunters to be the beef of the game but they're not. The bosses(excluding Gorea and the fire and ice bosses) are just long and annoying, they don't even really move. The single-player music was boring and uninteresting(Though I found the Alinos music to be pretty cool). And they even made the music creepy when the setting wasn't even creepy(Stasis Bunker in single-player). The game has missiles, energy tanks, ammo upgrades, and even sub-weapons. But they're so few it's not fun trying to hunt down every one. They're aren't even any power ups, as you start out with them. Here's my problem, there are no metroids, and for a game with METROID PRIME in it, there is no Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime was the final boss in Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime was Dark Samus in Metroid Prime 2. So shouldn't it make sense to have Metroid Prime in here disguised as one of the hunters or something? Scanning doesn't play a big role in the game but you still use it and I miss reading what space pirates(There are no space pirates besides Weavel) and Federation troopers thought. The final boss(Which has a secret second part) somewhat provides a challenge but it's just unimaginative(Though I loved the inclusion of a super weapon). Phew...now you're done listening to the bad stuff.

Now Multi-player, this is where the game rocks. Samus and 6 other bounty hunters face off in 26 arenas and 7 game modes(With tons of customizable game options). You can even turn on bots! Something you couldn't do in the multi-player of Metroid Prime 2. All the game modes are fun but the hunters aren't exactly balanced(Did I mention that each hunter has their own affinity weapon, HUD, and alternate form?). But the real thing that will determine the winner will be skill(Or the omega cannon or dumb luck). Wi-fi isn't that great though, it's fun to be able to search for opponents similar in skill level but you can't change any of the options when you do so. That's only in a Friends and Rivals match. You even have a hunter's license which keeps track of kills, wins, losses, and a whole bunch of other stuff(It keeps track against matches against bots Wi-fi or not)!

Overall it's a fun game, the single-player is fun but it has big problems, luckily the multi-player makes up for it. It has awesome controls(I mean the stylus one, not that bad button configuration) and beautiful graphics(Especially the cut-scenes!). This is a DS game that every DS owner should have!

GRAPHICS - The graphics isn't that sharp but you are still able to make out objects; It is fairly good. The level designs aren't too impressing though because they look too plain. 3.5/5

CONTROL - I'm a lefty, and it didn't take me quite long to adapt to the controls. The stylus is used to rotate while the D-pad is used to move in the standard directions (left, right, etc.) However, sometimes my stylus tends to hover over the top of the touch screen, so I discover that my weapons have randomly changed. I read of this happening in other reviews, so I thought I should mention it. But just for the record, the control is precise once you get used to it. 4.5/5

SOUND - The sound changes to suit the stages and there are quite a few selections so that you don't get bored. Familiar tunes contribute to the old Metroid experience, and the weapon sounds and explosions are awesome. 4/5

MULTIPLAYER - You are able to choose from any of the characters once you have beaten them. This was the first feature that I tried when I bought the game. I was able to hook up to my wireless router without any problems, and the signal was great. There was no lag during online gameplay and the graphics were not depleated in any way. 5/5

Overall, it is a great game and it is worth buying if you are into FPS's. You should definitely purchase it if you're looking for some multiplayer action. ;)

Okay, but somewhat disappointing

Metroid Prime Hunters is the 4th entry in the Metroid Prime subseries. Its release was delayed for a some time, but finally came out several months ago.

In contrast with the first and second Prime games for the Gamecube, the single-player mode is terribly lacking. The new weapons and worlds are good enough to consider buying. The bosses(with the exception of the hunters and Gorea)come in two varieties with only a few differences. Fighting them consists of: Scan the thingee, jump over laser/tentacle, shoot spot/tentacle, shoot thingee on top, rinse, wash, and repeat. The graphics are pretty good for a DS. The sound ranges from good to adequete to weird copies from previous Metroid games. Even with these disapointments, the single-player mode holds enpugh to keep your attention for a while.

The Multiplayer, on the other hand, is a different story.

After seeing the somewhat bare multiplayer mode on MP2, this will totally blow you away. The 6 new bounty hunters are nothing less than awesome. Each one has its own specialty weapon, different ability, and alternate form. Over 20 totally new stages are included. As if this wasn't enough, Nintendo added Wi-Fi play compatability, meaning you can challenge anyone around the world to a shootout.

I bought this game a few months ago only for its multiplayer. Its adventure mode is extremely inferior in contrast to the excellent Prime games. Even with that, this game is definetly worth taking a look at.
8/10 stars

This is by far the best DS game I've played. The graphics are the best I've seen on a handheld (barnone). They are better than anything I've seen on the PSP! Movement is smooth and fluid. Aiming is precise with the stylus. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it can get a little cumbersome trying to aim with the stylus and hold the thing while trying to move and fire. You do get used to it after a while, but it's still cumbersome. Regardless, anyone who enjoys shooters will love this game.

Really good game

I like this game, but after a while it can give me a very large cramp in my hand if I'm not careful. The best control scheme to me is Dual hand right. It is much simpler that the other ones. But this is a pretty good game with fun multi-player.

Pretty close...

Nintedo has a great idea going here. The online play, from the 5 or so hours that i've been on it, is solid, easy to figure out, and fun. I find the controls to be actually pretty decent. I quote a previous reviewer:

"If you're left handed, you're screwed...The bullet button is on the right side, aswell as the controls... Did these **MORONS** even try this game out before they released it? "

HEY! MORON! Did you try the other control schemes? Because they have multiple ones, including one for left handed people. The controls take time, but by no means are they as horrible as people make them out to be. The single player mode is short, but it's pure Metroid to its core, which I can appreciate very much being a long long time Metroid fan. Honestly, I was very skeptical of this whole game at first. Nintendos previous efforts at taking strictly one player games and making them multiplayer (Zelda: Four Swords, FF:CC) have not ended well, though Metroid Prime: Hunters seems to be breaking the mold. A solid decent game, but it's a online experience to be sure, so if you have no wi-fi connection, then it's a pass. The single player is simply not enough to make it worth buying. The online multiplayer, however, is. 4/5 Fun, fresh, great replay value, and really great graphics too.

I haven't bought this game yet, but I have the demo and I've played it in stores before. It's exellent! Metroid Prime:Hunters for the Nintendo DS is a first-person shooting game. It's like Halo and Halo 2, but Halo and Halo 2 are 9% better (to me). But that's a whole different system! Your mission is to secure the Galaxy's ultimate power.

In the single-player Adventure Mode, Samus Aran embarks on a quest to find powerful relics left behind by an ancient warrior culture. But Samus Aran isn't the only Bounty Hunter on this mission. Along the way, she'll have to fight off the Galaxy's most Elite Hunters who hope to harness the power for themselves:Trace, Weavel, Sylux, Spire, Noxus, and Kanden.

The real hunt begins in Multiplayer Mode. Metroid Prime Hunters brings intense first-person Multiplayer action to Nintendo DS, and with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection you can test your skills against players from around the world. Six all new Bounty Hunters as I mentioned before battle Samus Aran in the fight of the century, each with Unique strengths that you can exploit in over 20 different battle arenas and seven modes of play:Battle, Survival, Bounty, Defender, Prime Hunter, Capture, and Nodes.

The really cool thing about Metroid Prime:Hunters is that you can play as all of the seven Elite Bounty Hunters, including Samus. At first, you can only play as 3 Bounty Hunters. When you defeat them, you can play as them. If you connect with a friend and you defeat there's, you can play as that person.

Overall, I give it a perfect score:5 stars. In conclution, GET THIS GAME!

Metroid Prime:Hunters for the Nintendo DS opens in stores March 20th 2006.
