I'm Blown Away by this Handheld Game

This game more than exceeds expectations. Many people doubted that the DS could ever produce a decent FPS, but this game proves the skeptics wrong. The single-player mode is wonderful and deep, with a focus on action and shooting. Although it differs quite a bit from other Metroid Prime games (less scanning, no losing your upgrades only to have to look all over for them and earn them back). The graphics are fast and beautiful, the story is well-written, the music is perfect for the game, and the overall product is amazing. I hope that other developers use this as a standard for how powerful the DS can be.
I cannot comment much on multi-player because I have barely tried it out, but it looks to be the best multi-player experience ever produced on a handheld (and a strong experience even in comparison to many console and PC games).
Thank you Nintendo for producing such a great game!
A step lower than the console games, but it is still somewhat decent.

A classic Nintendo favorite brought on it's latest adventure to the DS is just what everybody needed. This game features multiplayer with bots and Wi-Fi, but the single player won't keep you at bay for long. Controls: The control setups are decent. You can choose left handed touch screen controls, right handed touch screen controls, left hand button controls, and right hand button controls. The controls are good as I see no other way to put them concerning the Nintendo DS build.
Graphics: The graphics are amazing. Everything with texture and close detail. But the graphics are grainy and can get the player to go dizzy. Opening menu has a good red space theme and the box has a nice shiny space theme. Sound: The sound corresponds with the levels and actions well, but nothing to go bragging about.
Multiplayer: The multiplayer is absolutely amazing. It features download play which is good. You can multiplay with other people who have the game in many different modes, maps, and characters with different abilities. Wi-Fi is an excellent addition to this, so you can play online with people. You can add bots in multiplayer and customize their levels which is good for alone multiplay.
Single-player: Single player is nice, but not the main reason to get the game. More of a side reason to get the game. The save points are bad. You will havew to play this game for a long time before you can save it. The single play is well done, but the whole process of shooting enemies, scanning objects, and activating triggers can get repetetive. If you are stuck in the single player campaign, that wouldn't be pleasant. But there is always the multiplaying/Wi-Fi capabilities. All in all, the reason to get this.
This game is a vast improvement from Metroid Prime 2 because there is a better multiplayer, there is Wi-Fi, and you can take it with you on the go. 40 dollars is a high price for this game, but it's going down and it's worth picking up a copy.
Pros: Wi-Fi connection ; Bot settings ; Decent multiplayer.
Cons: Bad controls ; Graphics are bound to give you a headache.

Okay, this is a review from a ten year old. Now before you go to the next review read this. This is a great game for halo people because of the first person shooter. Now the story goes like this: you get a message to go and find "this ultimate power". And your not the only one to look for it. There are other bounty hunters that look for it and of course you have to battle them. You have to find these big diamonds called octoliths to unlock the secret world oubliette. There you battle Gorea who was locked there by this group of aliens. Now if you do this curtain thing while battling him who obtain the secret power and battle him again with it. Unfortunatly, this is the only time you can use this power. Well then you beat the game. So, in conclusion, I highly reccomend this game. I hope I helped!
Great

When I first got this game I was having a hard time with the control but I quikly ajusted. This game is really not to hard I think there are only four levels. The point of the game is to gather these dimond shaped things that hold the key to the ultmant power. In your quest you must face and beat 6 bounty hunters who also are looking for the things. The adventure mode mesures up to other metirod games ,and the 2 player mode is ok but you have to have 2 games to really have fun. This game also has Wi Fi witch just makes it more fun I have not been on it yet so I don't know what its like but im sure its fun. You probley wonder why I did not give it 5 stars the grafics. The game has great grafics for a DS game but this is metriod I expect more. If you have played Metriod Prime on the GC you know what im talking about the grafics where mind blowing I thought I was playing a next generation system and the GC was a next generation system then so to see that this game has nintendo 64 grafics disapoints me. There are many great reasons to own this game first it is the only shoter game on the DS so far (I Don't think many more will be made) It has a great story mode with plenty of action and wepons and it has a fun multi player. The only other problem is no auto tergeting! At first I thought I was hopless and would never beat the game but I was wrong you really agust quick but if you hand the game to your frind to play for a min he will probley quickly hand it back and say its stupid.
Thanks For Listening I Hope You Found This Review Helpful:)
You'll either love it or hate it

I got my DS about a week after it came out and it came with a demo of metroid prime hunters. When I played the demo, I was blown away with the great controls and graphics. I didn't know that this was possible on a handheld. Well, I couldn't wait for the game to come out after I played the demo. Finally, it came out about a year and a half later and I picked it up the day it came out. I loved it for a couple of days. Then, I realized that there are only 4 levels in the single player game, and all you do is travel back and forth between them. Well, after I found that out I figured I would give the multiplayer a try. Multiplayer is definately better than single player. You can play online or regular wireless, and there is little lag online. However, the matchups are random unless you have friends that play. If you do, you can make a custom match in a lobby and you can do voice chat. All in all, You should play this game before you buy it to see if you like it.
anyone who gave this game 5 stars must have 2 inch long hands or a stylus built into their bionic arms

imagine playing quake.
now imagine someone told you that you had to play with a wacom tablet instead of a mouse.
now imagine that the story line was even cheesier and more predictable.
Thats about it.
I'm not out to say that this is a bad game. For a shooter on a handheld, its a reasonably entertaining game. If it was your first experience as a first person shooter it wouldnt be bad. But as other reviewers have mentioned, the game is repetitive. Also, enemies tend to take too many shots and move too fast or move too slow and take too few shots. The fights between you and the enemies that matter take a long time. Its like pitting two prisoners against each other in a battle to the death. Weapon of choice? Toothpick versus the paper clip. Also, you have to hold the stylus and move with it for long periods of time. For anyone whos played computer first person shooters, the stylus and D pad work out just fine for about 10-15 minutes, until the hand you use to hold the stylus starts to hurt real bad cause you're pinching the stylus for so long. Using the d pad to move and using the abxy keys to look doesnt work out because the aiming system isnt forgiving enough to allow this. So you're pretty much forced to use the stylus or eat 2-3x as much damage as you try to find your enemy.
In all fairness I have played the multiplayer at lunch with my cousin. Its pretty fun. Of course you're not expected to hold the ds and stylus for an hour at a time.
One of the best Metroid games out there!

This one get's a five stars both way's becuase of it's... of it's...of it's everything! The frist player mode is great, the wifi mode is great, and the multiplayer mode, you got it, Great! The game is a first-person view shooter style, so to enjoy a game like that you need good graphic's. And this game has absolutely awesome graphic's! The story of the frist player mode is:
A destroyed race has only left behind relics of it's once peaceful kind. And the race has also left behind a power that made it the most powerful race out there. So now, bounty hunters across the univeres are trying to find! Now it's up to samus to find the power, and restore the peace that it gave! But the other bounty hunter's, are trying to find, and take it for themselves and there own race, and that would make them the most powerful race! So can you, as samus, find the acient power before the other bounty's do! Will you make it out alive! there are four planet's that hold secret's to get to the power! You will need to find key's to the aceint power that are scattered all over the four planets! Can you solve the mystery...alive!
That does it for the first player mode here's, so the wifi:
The problem is over, and the bountys just want to have some fun! You compete in a game that only one bounty hunter will win in! Who are you? Which ever bounty you want to be! So compete against player's across the world! And fight to come in first!
That's it for the Wifi! I hope you enjoy the game! I did! Pick it up or order it today! Becuase I promise you'll love this game! I most certianly recommend!
Play control needs work.

Controls- The stylus takes quite a bit of getting used to. It's one thing to use the stylus briefly during key moments of a game. But to use it as a primary control system gets bothersome. It's an awkward position trying to counterbalance the game system itself along with fire and strafe controls in one hand, meanwhile you're other hand is pressing down on the screen right next to it. The center of balance of the system just isn't physically right for it.
You can set the system up to control things with buttons only, but only at the cost of extreme precision control.
Normally you use the control pad for strafing and running. The stylus is used for looking around and turning your character (among other things). The stylus can be used to turn your character as slowly or as quickly as you want depending on how fast you swipe the stylus. This is the one good point that Hunters has over the other Prime games. You can do quick turn-arounds or you can turn Samus different directions as slowly as you want. That's one of the very few advantages of using the stylus.
So there's a trade off. You can either use an all button control system, which costs you precision in control. Or you can use the stylus, which tires the hands holding the game and gets irksome if your hand happens to shake the slightest bit when you get to an exciting point in the game.
So in the world of Controls, I give Hunters 3 stars. They finally have a way to turn Samus quickly. Doing things with a stylus has its advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I just don't thing first person shooter is the way to go with Metroid as far as hand held goes.
Game play- Like the previous Prime games, this is a first person shooter. As such, it would seem some of my favorite power ups are missing again. No space jump, no screw attack, as far as I've seen, no grappling beam. I fear that many of the power ups Metroid fans have come to know and love may have died out along with third person perspective.
One of the biggest problems I have with Hunters, both in game play and as a whole, is the time limited escape sequence after every board. Of course, this is Metroid. So a time limited escape sequence is to be expected. In fact, escape sequences made its debut in Metroid. But after every single stage? That's just too much! Give the player a chance to breath. Put an escape sequence at the beginning, at the end, maybe one or two places in between. But not after every single stage! It's annoying.
Only being able to save at your ship is also annoying, but that's been covered quite well in other reviews.
I have yet to play using the Wi-Fi connection. I intend to at some point. But I have played multi-player using bots. This is where I think Hunters shines (and what boosts my overall rating). Finally being able to use Samus online to test your skills against others is one innovation with the DS that I cannot wait to use.
Metroid Without the "Metroid"

I would just like to say that I do not think that "Metroid Prime: Hunters" is a bad game; I do, however, think that it is a bad "Metroid" game. "Metroid Prime: Hunters" is a very fun romp in the boots of Samus Aran (and, really, who wouldn't want to romp Samus' boots?), and a very good first-person shooter, too - especially for a handheld. But, the game blatantly strips away a great deal of the adventure and exploration elements expected in a "Metroid"-titled game - signatures of the "Metroid" series, really - and doesn't do much to make up for the absense. Earlier first-person "Metroid" games ("Metroid Prime" and "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes") still had full-bore worlds for Samus to explore, complete with all sorts of hidden areas and unique tricks that the series has had for years, but that's all gone in "Hunters".
That's the single-player adventure, though. The multiplayer is excellent FPS stuff. Varied arenas, varied characters, and it's wonderfully responsive. The WiFi Connection play is great, as long as you and your opponents have strong signals. The ability to use computer A.I.-controlled bots is great, and something that a great many FPS' is missing. But here, it's very welcome.
"Metroid Prime: Hunters" for Nintendo DS is a very stream-lined, very straight-forward first-person shooter, and comes off as something mindless and a bit generic, and in the end is hardly befitting the "Metroid" name.
Good, but not good for me.

If you read my review of the first Metroid game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, you know that just because Samus Aran is my favorite bounty hunter does not mean I'm going to give high marks to all her games.
I don't know if I should even be reviewing this game, but here goes anyway...
This game plays essentially like the GameCube Metroid video games, except that the movement is easier if you can handle the touch-screen. That's where I have a problem. Whether I use the stylus or the strap with the plastic button, I just can't seem to get the hang of this game, which is a real shame since using the duel-buttons control method is not as precision-acurate. I like the online play too. I'm not sure there really is a voice chat option in the game as some sources had promised, but it's fun anyway, if you can stand getting blasted away multiple times by more experience players than yourself for the first twenty-or-so rounds. It's almost like Halo 2 when your at a wi-fi hotspot as opposed to being in front of the television. I guess that's not much of a compensation unless you like playing video games at designated McDonalds retsaurants.
The single-player mode is okay, but the rarity of save points hurts the gameplay, especially if you've gotten far and suddenly get sick of the current control set-up. I thought the checkpoints were save points, but they're not, so I had to start all over again.
