Although I had never heard of the game, I bought it anyway to see what it was like, as I was running out good RPGs to play. I was amazed at how involved I got with this game! The story, the heroes, the villians, I loved every moment of it. It brought back memories of classic RPGs where you round the corner and are completely surpised by what happens next. Most RPGs being produced at the moment follow the generic formula and don't differ from one another that much except for character designs and bland storylines. After completing this game, I await Konami's follow ups to the series, even if I have to get the PS2.
The Game That made me fall in love with RPG's.

Probably one of the first games I fell in love with, Suikoden 2... in a word, rocks. There's no way to get around it. When you combine classic console rpg gameplay, a great cast of characters (although.. yes some are useless, entertaining, but useless), a pretty decent story ( it seems a bit rehashed of Suikoden 1, although it seems more developed here) and some great scenes. The battle with Blight still stand at one of my high points in gaming. Such a classic.
Get it now, download, steal it, whatever, but if you like console rpg's, this is a must have.
great game, must buy. absolute classic.

great game. the first thing you notice after playing it is the magnitude and depth of the drama. based on one of the four great literature/classics of china, "shui hu zhuan", konami has breathed life into the 108 starts of destiny--and you have an option to collect these 108 characters as you go along. some will voluntarily join you, some will join after a simple question, but others require that you finish some sort of a task. many of these characters aren't "window decoration". their characters are wonderful, some mesh with others well, and some don't really get along. and some like to STALK others. =P some characters will modernize your castle (the more members you get, the more little quirks and things your HQ gets) by levels.
the battle system is fun to play--random enemies, yes, but once your party is leveled up beyond the monsters, then you can just "let them go." on the other hand, if the party is weaker/as strong as the enemies, then you'll have to try your luck at running away. the unite options are fun, and they're not limited to two characters--they can go up to four or even five.
you get to "make" your own character--that is, you make his personality as you go along. you get to make choices, whether you want to stay, or leave; sleep, or stay awake; join one battle, or the other, or stay in your HQ. i never found this game draggy at all. there are different endings you can get, and it'd be fun to play it together again and try to find some hidden scenes. i'd suggest everyone to play it at LEAST twice.
it's pretty old, and so the graphics can't compare to something like the recent "final fantasy" games, etc., but it's WORTH playing. after i played it i actually WISHED that they'd come out with more 2d games (because truthfully i was never really fond of 3d-rotating worlds anyway). have i mentioned how beautiful the character designs were? anyway, i digress. yeah, it's old, but there are some spiffy scenes in there that'll amaze you.
the music isn't bad, either. some of themes are really catchy. the opening scene is wonderfully done--it's just breathtakingly beautiful. i can't emphasize how great the story is. honor, betrayal, friendship, and loyalty are stressed upon in this game, but it's not without its own share of light humor/comedy scenes.
even the beginning isn't slow (unlike certain games like xenogears, which was fun but started out too slow for my tastes). you're just thrust into the story within 15 minutes. within an hour in a situation that won't be fixed until the end of the game. it just gets better by the minute. play it first without a guide, and then feel free to buy prima's guides or whatever to your heart's desire. you'll end up WANTING to play it over and catch those characters and scenes that you missed.
anyway, that was long, but this is something you cannot miss!! there are many characters from suiko1, and there are some new ones as well, and of course the suikoden saga just continues. you don't need to have suiko1 experience to enjoy this game. this game will MAKE you want to buy suiko1 (which is what i'm doing at amazon, by the way).
The Best!!
