Best in the series, possibly best RPG ever

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

Though the third installment was a good game, it still can't hold a candle to this one. Suikoden II has everything an excellent RPG could want -- addicting gameplay with tons of little things to do, from castle building (one that actually improves as you expand its population, unlike the castle in the third game) to various mini-games. Extreme, pitched battles with a tremendous sense of scale as well as one-on-one personal "you killed my father, prepare to die!" style duels. A really, really superb story with gripping characters (the heroes in III were rather bland) and multiple endings that range from Shakespearean tragedy to heart warming. I remember I came pretty close to crying as I experienced the best ending. In the first 5 minutes of the game, I cared about the characters and their plight, which is something I haven't felt since I first played Final Fantasy 2(American).

Overall, possibly my favorte RPG of all time. Granted, there are a few translational glitches, but nothing you can't figure out with the smallest amount of thought.

Instant classic.

If you've played and already love the original, then you can expect the same and better in the sequel. For those needing an introduction, Suikoden is a relatively short very unique RPG that has over 108 characters (PLAYABLE. No sh*), has beautiful spell graphics for combat, has a well thought-out storyline, and unforgettable bosses and characters (namely Neclord, but the others are cool too). The sequel has a very intimate storyline, almost taking you the player as the main character, talking to you as if you were in this virtual universe. More Konami goodness.

Suikoden II Rocks!

All I can say about this game is that it is part of one the best RPG Series I have ever played. I think one of the things that makes it great is the fact that you can import your data form the first suikoden for some real cool features. You can get new characters, also you can recruit your character from the first game. Alot of work has bene put in to make the game flow from story to story instead of how final fantasy works it. You stay in the same world, guiding history of this world. And with the release of Suikoden III which does let you import your Suikoden II Data, It makes it even more fun. I must go and buy Suikoden III now.

Better than 1 or 3

Though I haven't finished 3 yet, so far I'd have to say two is the best game of the three. Suikoden games let you play about a hundred characters, if you can get them all to join your party, and have fun little quirks like letting you build up a castle and put statues in the bathroom. There are also cooking contests...It's a good time and generally agreed upon as being one of the best RPGs ever.

Suikoden kickes ass

Suikoden 2 is by all means da best RPG ever the first 3 suikodens were all fanominal but I think suikoden 4 is a little krapy, well anyways I'v played probley 100 RPG's in my life and Suikoden 2 kicked all there asses. The storyline in suikoden 2 is excelant, its not like the whole world is in danger like Final Fantesy(not to dis Final Fantesy cause I like Final Fantesy) Here is some advice for RPG players if you havent played Suikoden yet go get it NOW cause its da best game ever.

THIS GAME IS A WORTHY SECOND TO FINAL FANTASY SEVEN. I ENJOYED THE FIRST Suikoden, DUE TO THE FACT IT WAS A HEAD OF IT'S TIME. HOWEVER I THINK THE SEQUEL COULD HAVE BETTER GRAPHICS AND SOUND. OVERALL IT IS A FUN GAME AND NOT VERY COMPLICATED. 108 CHARACTERS IS GREAT.

Best Non-Linear RPG - So far

Suikoden II is by far the best non-linear RPG that I have seen for the playstations so far.

I have seen Baldur's Gate and Might&Magic games for the PC and if they are anything like that on the playstation - then Suikoden II will not be the best non-linear game, but for now it is !

FYI: I am really getting sick of linear adventure games such as Final Fantasy VII and VIII. It is about time a game like Suikoden 1 & II came out!

EASY BUT FUN

I puirchased Suikoden 1, preowned, for five dollars at a rental store, as a short term distraction from the hot, slow, boring summer days when all my friends were on vacation. It blew me away. The battle systems were great,(I didn't like the 'war mode' in 1 rthat much) The characters were incredible, and the ending left you wanting more.Suikoden two is no different. The "Rock paper scissors" war mode is now a turn based strategic battle between you and your enemies. the story is longer, and you get to love the characters,(or in the case of the genocidal villian, Luca Blight, you hate him) another thing i thought was cool was that the evil ruler of the enemy kingdom (Luca Blight) Died halfway through the game, but his evil legacy still lived on. Bt dont listen to me, buy it if you downt have it already!

Final Fantasy??? Suikoden!!!

I have to count myself as one of the skeptics when it came to an RPG with 108+ characters. And I definitely never thought an RPG series could ever hold ranks with Final Fantasy. But the moment I finished the first Suikoden I was a believer that there could actually be an RPG that surpasses Final Fantasy--at least in some aspects.

Okay, so the graphics are 2D, but it was back in the PS1 days. But the graphics are NOT what makes this game so amazing--It's the story. The STORY, because it's worth repeating.

The Story (Repeated for the Third time) deals with familiar themes of family, friendship, loyalty, etc... But it's the level in which they are handled, and the skill at which they are portrayed that makes this game really special. Who can forget the final scene, the duel between the Hero and Jowy. I don't even want to say much more because I'll ruin it for those who haven't played it.

You just won't get the opportunity to play another game like this, and for those who haven't bought this title already, good luck. It's expensive, because it's EXTREMELY rare. If I didn't own it already, I would gladly pay the $99 asking price though, because it's the story you will want to experience OVER and OVER and OVER again. It takes what I LOVE about the first Suikoden and brings it all to something even better in Suikoden II.

Oh, and this is worth mentioning. The whole Luca Blight Battle Sequence had to be my most favorite RPG moment in both story, scene progression, and battle play. It was SO AWESOME! Just remember to level up good before it and use the power of the "Tank" characters.

I'm just a really big fan of this series (can you tell?) and I could go on all day about how good this game is, and how it's worth playing, but I won't. I'll leave it up to you. But in my opinion, it's worth the money, BUY IT NOW! That is, of course if you can open your mind to 2D graphics, and throw away your old Final Fantasy ways (The Magic System is Totally different--No Lit3 or Cure4's here). (LoL)
