I enjoyed this game as much as the first. The fact that this is actually a continuation of the story instead of an entirely new one is a plus. If you completed the first game with a perfect ending, you can use your saved data in this game. This is a feature not used with other RPGs & I think it's a wonderful idea. The characters are very indepth & characters that have returned from the first game actually have the same background. Playing this game was like playing an interactive movie with a plot & well made battle system. It has lower graphics than most new RPGs, but that really does not take away from the overall gameplay. I would definately suggest trying this game!
Words cannot describe it.

When I decided to purchase Suikoden II, I thought I was going to get a "good" RPG. I was wrong. S2 is outstanding. It differs greatly from just about any other RPG out there (Except Suikoden I). Engrossing story, 108 characters to "collect," effective battle systems, and variable endings makes Suikoden II not a game to miss.
It's great - if you can get a hold of it!

Who knew? I bought my copy of Suikoden II new, about 3 years ago, for thirty dollars. Now, apparently, I can sell it for three times this! Nonetheless, I continue to hold onto my (collector's?) copy. The game is THAT good.
The game takes place a few years or so after the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire (which was the setting for the original Suikoden). The plot follows similarly: a young boy becomes the leader of the side of right, and must constantly do battle against first, the forces of evil (Luca Blight) and second, his best friend (Jowy Atreides/Blight). This begs the question: why get this game since its plot is so similar to the last one?
Well, for starters, the gameplay continues to be great, with the player once again asked to recruit the 108 stars of destiny (along with a few extra characters, particularly if there exists save data from the original Suikoden!). The battles are fun, although a bit too numerous for my liking. The townbuilding section is more involved in the sequel, and the rewards are better (including an Iron Chef-type cookoff, and well as a whack-a-mole game, a dance contest, a dice game, and other goodies). There are quite a few optional quests, multiple endings
and other goodies awaiting as well. Finally, for those of you who wish to purchase Suikoden III, keep in mind that you may load the save data from Suikoden II as well to open goodies in THAT game!
This game is increasingly difficult to find, but if you can get your hands on it, you will be greatly rewarded! Good luck!
Well...

Not much to say here that hasn't been said...there is definitely a reason why you can't find this game for under 100 bucks these days. I'm so glad I picked it up when I did. I had already owned and loved the first game (which was an impulse buy for 20 bucks at wal-mart) and saw this one was out in Babbage's but kept putting off buying it. Thankfully by the time I did they had some left! I didn't know it was so rare back then. The intros to this game (meaning the start up cinematic and the credit scene when you actually start playing) are two of the best scenes and musical compositions I've seen/heard in my gaming history. I just love the music in the Suikoden series, but parts 1 and 2 definitely blow out all the later games. Anyway Suikoden 2 is definitely the high point in the series. If you decide to pay the big bucks for it you'll be justified.
Words cannot describe just how amazing this game is!

Old-school 2D RPG graphics with over 108 playable characters and a great story of fate and betrayal. The hero (which you name) is best pals with Jowy. They are both members of the Highland Youth UNICORN Brigade. One day as the City-State signs a peace treaty and they are about to go home, the City-State attacks!... Or so it seems. The evil Highland prince Luca Blight set up the attack to make the City-State look bad in the eyes of the public, allowing Luca to take over both.
They story gets very emotional later on and I would recommend the game just for that alone! Not counting 3 major types of battles and endless ammounts of mini-games and subquests.

I have wasted two whole days playing this game. Never has a game been so addictive that wasn't a strategy game...oh wait. This is a strategy game and a role playing game...not to mention gambling, fishing, "whack-a-mole" and more. I think when I beat it, my total time was about 52 hours...BUT...I didn't even get all of the 108 characters that are possible...I was a big fan of the original Suikoden, and when I first put in Suikoden II, I was doubtful that it would match its predecessor. Was I wrong. Any fan of the old Suikoden or anyone picky enough to play a game REALLY thoroughly (I told you this game is huge, didn't I?) should definitely get a copy. The more people that buy this one...the sooner Konami will be working on Suikoden III. Overally though, it's not for everyone...it may seem sort of juvenile. FF8 is a little more "grown-up" in terms of storyline, but still...if you like the artwork and style of the original and of Final Fantasy Tactics, this one is a can't-miss.

Simply the Best RPG (Role-Play Game) on the Playstation. Suikoden II came out not long after the release of Final Fantasy 8. Yet, after a few hours of playing the game, I found that the game was so good that I cannot put it down to play something else. Suikoden II was so good that I stopped playing Final Fantasy 8 (supposedly the best RPG according to major mags) and finished Suikoden II before returning to play Final Fantasy 8! Suikoden II was also the first game I have played in my life so far that caused me to stay up late all night until around 5 AM the next morning playing it. It's that good! And... in my opinion, this game is better than Final Fantasy 8. It brings back the joy and excitement that Final Fantasy 6 was able to do back in the SNES years. Suikoden II is a MUST BUY!
Amazing Faithful to the Original.

I really enjoyed playing Suikoden II and consider it a fine addition to my RPG collection. While neither Suikoden nor Suikoden II seem to be rated with the upper echelon of outstandingly stellar RPG, the storyline is engaging, the characters are interesting and the graphics are cool. The graphics are so good, in fact, that players of the first Suikoden will recognize some old friends just by seeing them on the screen. The goal is still to try and recruit as many characters as possible, and you will have to go on a few side quests here and there to get them all. But it's worth it to unlock the entire story. There are also some special characters you can get who are not mandatory to your quest but are fun to take into battle. I don't think you'll be disappointed with Suikoden II.
A Must Have for RPG Fans

If you like classic PS RPGs such as Final Fantasy or Xenosaga, this one is definetely for you. The storyline is not as complex as some of the late Final Fantasy titles (especially FF8) but they still came up with a solid story. Graphics are above average and sound is ... well okay. By now you must have thought that I made a mistake by giving this game the highest score, but that is not the case. The fun you get from this game is unbelievably high and it is perhaps one of the few games that you will play without any boredom. Even levelling up, a really burdensome process in such games is fun. There are over 100 unique characters, each with their own backgrounds. I have already finished the game many times but the fun never ends. Although the price seems really high, I would definitely pay it if I didn't have this wonderful game. But I must remind, if you are fond of computer RPGs based on D&D and such don't buy this game. You will find it childish (although it definetly isn't). Go get Baldur's Gate or Morrowind.
