This game is really good. I like the story plot and the cheesy acting, it makes me smile from the rest of the terror the game has stored in it. Over-all review, you should get this game unless you already own it, of just dont have a PS1. The game is good and reccomend it for people who are asking for a scare.
Awesome !!!!!

Resident Evil, THE survival horror series that that has became so popular and spawned many sequels.
Gameplay:9.5/10: It's a survival horror game! In a mansion, filled with zombies, limited ammo and saves spots, limited healing, and puzzles. What's there not to like? You can even blow zombie's heads off with a shotgun! You can pick two players, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield. Both are different, and you should play as Jill first, than Chris.
You also get three difficulty levels in the DC version, easy, normal, and Arrange. Arrange is hard, with new costumes, puzzles, and camera angles.
Graphics: 1996: 10/10: 2005:4/10: Pretty bad by today's standards, but back then it was great, and the FMV's have real people in it!
Music/sound:8/10: Horror-like music and sounds
Dialogue:3/10: Very corny. From Wesker's "Stay alert" and "Don't open that door!!", to Barry's "I hope this is not Chris's blood!", the dialogue and tone is CHEESEY! But, it was made by Japanese actors, so it's easy to understand why.
Overall, it's a must have! Get the other RE games, too!
My all time favorite Resident Evil!

I played this game for the first time ever last sept, And i'm already considering this to be my fav RE of all time! Yes its that good! First off here are some reasons 1 Best cast of characters 2 Best enemies 3 Best locations 4 Best music 5 Best storyline. Okay now for the review, While this game dosn't have the best weapons (That award goes to RE3) Its still easily the most fun and thats what counts right? The puzzles while not being difficult (I did have to read a walkthrough to figure out what the doom books were for though) Are fun and make you think. And if you like classical music than you'll probably like the music during gameplay (I myself love the music!) The enemies are the best! Zombies, Cerberus, Crows, Spiders, Neptune, Bees, Chimera,
Hunters, Thats just to name a few! The locations are the best in RE history (A mansion, Guardhouse, Sewer, And a lab. Okay i don't want to go on forever so just go get this game! I promise you you won't regret it!

Forget the fact that this game came out a long time ago.
Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine are your two main playable characters accompanied by Barry Burton, Albert Wesker, Rebecca Chambers, Brad Vickers, Enrico Morini, Edward Dewey, Forest Spyer, Richard Aiken, Joseph Frost, and Kenneth Sullivan most of which will end up dead before the end of the game, which isn't revealing much as most people know about this game. One of the main points of the story is the isolation and being alone searching for your fellow teammembers. If there's 12 of them in all and the main idea of the game is isolation and terror you better believe you'll find some dead teammembers along the way. The story is pretty much known around the world. STARS Alpha team has been sent to investigate STARS Bravo team's dissapearence in the woods near a mansion that belongs to Umbrella. The T-Virus (Tyrant) has been let loose and killed the employees turning them into zombies, and unleashing other creatures (Hunters AH!). The game itself really isn't that long, once you learn the puzzle solutions you could breeze through it in a few hours (for which you may be rewarded). The Arrange mode on this Director's Cut version features different uniforms for Jill and Chris and some different camera angles and puzzle solutions. Items will be switched around to different locations as well. The overall "scare" factor of this game is pretty nil, but you might jump at a few spots. The graphics are dated, sure, but they're basic and likeable. You can tell what's going on and still see extra details (unlike the remake where the entire game is a pile of details upon the next pile). One of the most famous aspects of this game is the voice acting and FMV sequences with actual actors (if you even want to call them that). The in game voice acting, when you actually find a fellow STARS member alive, is pretty terrible. I'd like to track these people down and see if they haven't been murdered because of it. The FMV sequences are pretty classic also, the opening is the same for eather game and the endings are different depending on who you save during your adventure as Chris or Jill. FINAL NOTE: I highly recommend this game (the Director's Cut version since it has 4 games total) even if it is extremely old to anyone! The "explicit scenes of blah blah) at the beginning of the load don't really make a difference as it's all squares anyway, but this game is actually REALLY fun to play through. I think anyone who has moderate video gaming experience should play this. You might have to get used to the controls, but they don't really bother me.

The Original Resident Evil brings back memories, which is why I bought it. It was more fun in those days though I guess. I forgot what the graphics were like; They were a little choppy. The video is downright cheesy, which is great. I get ideas for roleplaying from this game. All-around I'd say it was a good buy, and a good collectors item.
Now that I look back on it...

...I realize that the remake is a true masterpiece. This is where all the RE games began, but it's not the same anymore, now that I've gotten the remake and I absolutely LOVE it. They added all sorts of things to the remake that were never in this one, like Lisa Trevor, the graveyard, George Trevor, and all kinds of extra areas and COMPLETELY redesigned areas from this version. Unfortunately they made this game look like some old cheesy horror film at the beginning with the live-action cinematic and the pathetic voice acting, and that kind of makes it seem less interesting, but the remake fixed every problem this game had. It truly scared the hell outta me the first time I saw Forest Speyer stand up as a zombie on the balcony, and I literally froze in terror because of it. Unlike in the remake, Forest moves just like a regular zombie in this game. I seemed sort of weird how you only find two types of zombies in the whole game (Green jacket and grey skin, and white jacket and deep blue skin), and you don't find either two types in the same room together. That changed in the other games, though. There's also naked cadavre zombies in the underground lab, but only in one room. I've never beaten this game, although I don't see how I possibly could, since I end up with no ammo whatsoever by the time I encounter Tyrant, and the hunter's are way too hard to even attempt to get past them to find items. One good thing about this game is that there's no crimson heads, but it's still equally hard even so. As far as realism, this game is very lacking, compared to RE2 and RE3, not to mention the RE1 remake. This game still brings back memories, though, since I've had it for, like, eight years. It actually used to scare me, especially when I saw the face of one of the zombies. The blank, lifeless expression, and torn-up face just gave me nightmares. This game is still a great effort, though. I just think the remake truly showcases the vision of the guy who came up with the idea for Resident Evil.
