great game for little kids!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 11

the game has great graphics, and good gameplay, good characters, and great levels. But, this game is not quite for people 11 years old and up. The game is a great game for little kids, its one of those non-violent, friendly games. Even the boss, that thing could hardly scare anything. So, if you have little kids(3-8) buy the game for them, they'll love it, especially since its short and difficult looking, that way, when your kids finish the game, they'll think they can master anything! Plus, it has good kid music and friendly cute looking worlds, and all those cute yoshis make such cute noices. I bought the game being the "good nintendo fan", also, if you collect nintendo character games(mario, zelda, donkey kong, etc.) you can't miss this one.

Yes, this game is very easy which makes it great for kids. My son also enjoys playing Super Mario World 64 and Super Mario Kart Racing.

Yoshi's Story: sniffing out the truth

As you may have read, the general consensus is that Yoshi's Story is a fine 2D platformer for children to play, but offers little challenge for the rest of the market. I strongly disagree with this.

I have been an avid gamesplayer for nigh on 11 years, from the NES (Famicom) right through to the N64. I own virtually every Mario/Yoshi title, and Yoshi's Story is my favourite to date.

True, if a player just plunders through the game, it can be finished within an hour, two at most. But dedicated gamers will find themselves caught in the real groove. The hook in this game is to NURUTRE your Yoshi.

Different fruits are favoured/disfavoured by each Yoshi. A casual gamer who just wants another straightforward platformer will find such mushy sentiment ludicrous and down as many of any kind of fruit possible to finish the game. However, a devoted gamer will discover the joy in sniffing out and hunting down their Yoshi's favourite fruit.

All Yoshi's love melons, and to find all 30 in one course, as well as the three hearts needed to unlock each world, AND to discover the secret White and Black Yoshis, PLUS killing every shyguy to make Yoshi's happiness quota higher, not to mention finding power bees, and collecting every coin from every course to unlock a rumoured 'hidden' Yoshi, is a gargantuan task indeed. Of course, there a those who just won't care about all this. But to those few dedicated gamers, who, like me, appreciate the subtler side of computer entertainment, I urge you, BUY THIS GAME!

FYI, I got to the end credits in an hour. A year on, I'm still looking for all the secrets. And this is a gamer whos finished each and every Zelda game (excluding Majora's Mask) within six weeks, tops.

"Disappointing"?? No way!!

I wouldn't have submitted this review, epecially since almost all customer reviewers gave this game an appropriately high rating, but I am shocked, SHOCKED! by the negative "official" review that Amazon has placed at the top of the page. I couldn't disagree more strongly with the snide dismissal of Yoshi's bright and happy world, or the dis of the 2-D like side scrolling action of the game, which recalls classic video games from back in the day.

This is a WONDERFUL game for young and old alike. Needless to say, if your taste in video games runs to first person shooters and blood and gore this probably isn't your cuppa, but I was enraptured by the gorgeous graphics and beautiful music. In terms of graphics, music, and game play, this is the best product that I've seen for the N64. (The music in the early Mario family games produced for the N64 annoyed the heck out of me.) In "Yoshi's Story" Nintendo has recaptured the magic of its best games for the NES and SNES, only using the 64-bit system to its highest potential. True vintage happy smiley Nintendo!

A friendly and fun game with some friendly and fun friends

Yoshi's Story is a cute game where you can play as yoshis in a happy world. The object of the game is to eat fruit from a stolen tree and to defeat baby bowser. If you are unsure who Yoshi is,he is a friendly little dinosaur who has a long tougne to eat fruit. Yoshi and five other yoshis are out to save the super happy tree that Baby Bowser stole from them. It's a cute game and you'll probably beat it in a few days but it's really for younger children. The graphics are really good and the gameplay is easy to learn and the sound is alright. Rent it for some quick fun but if liked Yoshi's past games I suggest you buy it.

An Excellent Game

I would have to say that I extreamly enjoyed this game. My boyfriend gave me an N64 for my birthday last year (my poor little sega genesis died :o( and I was trying to get used to the new controler and such, well he first put me on 007 the James Bond game... Lets just say that was a mess. But then he bought me Yoshi's story and it was incredibly cute, colorful, and offered me a fun chance to get to know my system. I love games like this just because I think that they appeal to younger kids as well as older. It wasn't as challenging as some other games, but I wouldn't trade it in, it's really a great buy. I love it!

My little brother bought this game three weaks ago and enjoys it very much. I think that its quite easy but fun. I would have enjoyed it more if it was harder, more missions and 3D graphics. But for a young kid its perfect. I personaly think that its a three pointer but my little brother would give it ten stars if it was availible. I've already completed the game but my brother is stuck on "baby-Bowser". Because its so simple its good for beginners. I also think that the Yoshis are adorable.

The Power of Yoshis!

This is a good game if you like Mario.

Out of the blue the island fell darkened by an evil spell the blink of an eye was all it took and the island became a story book! The Super Happy Tree was lost too and once happy Yoshis begane to stew.
Thats right!Baby Bowser has used his evil to turn the Yoshi island into a story book!But...
Elsewhere on the pop-up isle some Yoshi eggs survived the trial!
And its there job to stomp Baby Bowsers hide!
Yoshis can eat fruit(and enemys)with a flick of the tounge, pound the ground to find secrates and throw eggs. There are lots of items including coins and red and blue Happy Hearts that go ding-ding-ding-ding when you near them. And who could forget the floating row boats and the umbrella on the Bumber Chute. There are special flowers to eat one gives you more power another turns you into a bouncing egg! There are pipes to slide through and hearts that make Yoshi super happy! There are question boxes, more egg boxes and a cute puppy called Pochie!

You start the game with six Yoshis green, red, yellow, dark blue, light blue and pink.Hidden in specific levels though are special Yoshi eggs! They come in white and black.Purple Yoshi can be obtained by doing something special. But if you die you lose that yoshi for good. Not even White ShyGuy can restore them! There are only two black and white eggs and one purple!

Some of the games include a Melon Race where you fly over some numbers and in another you have to carry crates from the begining to the end.Its fun!Yoshi can also lick a red circle to pull him or her to a higher place. Its lots of fun to get seven melons and have a Super Happy Heart parachute down.

I love this game and highly recomened it!See ya!!!!!!!

A beautiful piece of work

While many people have said this game is "sinchy" or "kiddie" because is looks cute and/or is too easy, I hardly think so. Pesonally, I think the graphics are incredibly good and really show Mr. Myamoto's unique side(the side he shows to everyone), and the music is so charming, that you can't help to get drawn into the game after listening to its wonderful tunes. As for the games length and challenge level, the game is rather short to beat(if you don't count finding all of the secrets and unlocking all of the levels beating the game) and the levels arn't extremly challenging, but hey!, who said that callenge is all that matters in a game, huh? What this game lacks in lenth and challenge it more than makes up for with hard-to-find secrets, beautiful graphics and music, and just plain FUN!!!

In this game you have 7 lifes, and each life is a different color. You go through levels, story pages, and you try and defeat the level. If you use a life then you dont get that life back until the next storypage. Eventually you come to the last level and you have to defeat the master of the game to beat the game. Overall this game is SOOO much fun and you get to really test your skills.
