Diddy Kong Racing, and the year is 2007...

I'm still having fun with this game - even when I was little I craved it ever little bit I could squeeze in with my friends and by myself. Now that I can actually play it whenever I want, I'd have to say it's a fun game. Of course, there will be times you run into the wall and you will run into a few glitches, but other than that it seems solid. I'm dreading Wizpig though...

Kart Racing Bliss...

This is a great game. Then again, I love kart racing games. This is one of the classic kart racing games for me, its only competitor being Mario Kart 64.

In terms of single-player, I think it trumps Mario Kart. And DKR's ingeniousness comes through the planes and hover karts, my favorite still being the "car" though. However, if you look in terms of graphics and characters, Mario Kart takes the cake.

Diddy Kong Racing is great fun though. The characters are all unique. Their controls vary and they have special talents, such as speed, handling, or even being good at hovering or flying. The levels are also great fun, all of them having themes, like Christmas or pirates. The multi-player as well, as mentioned in another review, runs quite seamlessly, and I find that it is a great hit when you have poeple over.

I personally love kart racing games. I would recommend both this game and Mario Kart 64.

What can I say, this game was dumb! It's just a copycat of Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart 64 has freakin' fun! Diddy Kong Racing is a joke! I would have rated it as "0 stars," but unfortunately I don't have that option. If you want to give someone a hate gift, I recommend this. But don't blame me if they surprisingly love it.

Better than Mario Kart 64???

As a matter of fact (DKR) diddy kong racing is a BETTER game than mario kart 64. I love the characters in Mk 64 but the game moves too slow and it is impossible to master that game. However, DKR is an incredible game. I love this game because it was my first videogame. It entales many memories for me. There are 8 starting characters. The big characters are faster and the light characters have better handling. If you have ever played that game you probably know that tip-tup is a fan favorite. The best character is TT. He is the clock in the lobby of each world. To unlock TT you must beat his ghost in all of the time trials. It took me 5 1/2 years to accomplish this. But once I did I found the secret behind nintedo's best racing game EVER. There are numerous ways to become a great racer. Using the R and B button together gives your character a tight powerslide to make extremlely sharp corners. Use sparingly. Im reallly good at that game now... because it is worth the time to get great and school TT ghosts and hold records. The best vehical is the CAR no hover or plane please. This game is arguably the best racing game for n64. And overall DKR is in my top 5 Favorite games of all time. for any consol ever.
I hope it is a remade game for DS or wii virtual consol. If you have an n64 buy it for that but if you don't these two options will be ok.

This Is one of the fewest racing games a really like, it's cool you go through levels and even have a boss to beat. it's cool. It's a game i think everyone will enjoy.

If you liked this Game check out Mario Kart.

If it's a kiddy game, it's a very hard one

Diddy Kong Racing will forever be looked at as a kiddy title, and in some ways Rareware did go overboard on this one. The character designs are very sugary sweet, accompanied by high-pitched voices that you want to slap in the face (Pipsy, I'm looking at you). Bright, cheerful colors, bright cheerful soundtrack. Yeah, kids love this stuff.

But strip all that away, and this is a very well-designed and challenging cart racer. It kind of does the opposite of Mario Kart 64, and offers a strong single-player mode and a fun but somewhat bare multiplayer-mode. Similiar to platform games, you race through courses and collect balloons, which in turn open boss fights and other worlds with more courses. There are three fully-tuned vehicles to choose from: your kart, a plane, and a hovercraft. Each has it's pros and cons, controls differently from the others, and takes skill to master. You can even race different vehicles against each other, often taking different routes in the same course. Like other kart racers this one isn't about speed, but the tracks have lots of detail and animation, and are consistently interesting to race through (one even looks like the Death Star trench from Star Wars).

Where the game starts to frustrate is Rareware's typical way of extending play time. Beat the courses once, then race through them again and collect 8 hard-to-reach coins while still maintaing first place. This leads to a harder boss encounter, and must be done to unlock the final levels and the best ending. Little kids will probably throw the controller down right here, but anyone who's worth anything in video games will find it immensely satisfying to clear Rare's requirements and unlock all that the game has to offer. Seperates the men from the boys, and all that.

If Rareware hadn't made the characters so sugary, this could've easily topped Mario Kart 64 in recognition among the older crowd. Definitely worth a purchase used, and good luck to all those up for the challenge.

Multiplay Fun for ALL ages

I've spent years playing this game as a child, and there is tons of races and a variety of bright optomistic characters. The best part of this title is multiplayer. Multiplayer has 3 diffrent games: Battle (you shoot eachother) Race, and capture the flag. There are 3 vehicles you can use in this game too. Plane, kart, and hover craft. If your playing solo there is also an adventure mode where you go through a nice adventure.

This game really sucks....

I am a fan of the Donkey Kong games. I have DK 1 & 2 on my GBA SP. So, I thoguht I would give this game a try. I bought it from Rhino Video Games for $9.99 you can bet that I am going to take it back in and swap it for antoher one maybe South Park or Mario 64.

The game has no real objective.

Being released after Mario Kart, this game will of course, always be compared with Mario Kart. While this game is fairly similar to Mario Kart one shouldn't think of this as simply a clone-this game is actually very good.

The graphics, sounds, and music are all very good (especially for the time it was released). There are 3 different vehicles you can race and battle with and several different maps to choose from. The maps are all very well designed and are very fun.

There are different weapons you can get, like in Mario Kart, to help you win the race. Unlike Mario Kart in which you get random weapons, in this game you know what you are getting by the color of the balloon (weapons and power ups are in balloons, not boxes). One interesting thing I like about this game is that you can save up your weapon/powerup and make it more powerful by getting another balloon (up to a maximum of 3 balloons). There is also another interesting aspect: if you pick up the bananas lying around the track then your kart will go faster. There are also some conveyer belts, aka "zippers" spread along the tracks that you can pass over to go even faster for a short period of time.

One obnoxious part of the game is that you have to collect coins in order to win the races (in single player mode). The coins are scattered in hard to get places along the track. If you think you were great when you got all the coins, just wait, for there is the dreaded mirror mode in which you have to do it all over again, except this time it's backwards. This aspect of the game will drive any sane mortal mad.

There is also the cheapness of the boss levels in which you will be forced to play if you want to beat the single player mode and unlock maps for multiplayer mode. The bosses are all incredibly cheap, but you can beat them. It just takes time and patience.

Over all this game is pretty good, especially the multiplayer aspect. It is definitely worth getting.

Like most others who might've already discovered, this Nintendo video game IS pretty much for kids. That doesn't mean that many adults cannot find SOME fun with it.The player(s)have a chance to race on many tracks, like a dinosaur valley,an ice track,a volcano island, etc.Have to admit the graphics are good.At least I thought so.Can also switch over to this game to kill, say maybe thirty minutes.
