Mario Kart clone... a nintendo fan disspointed...

I was so excited when I first rented this game. I read tons of great reviews and thought boy this game has to be great! I was totally disapointed. It's a mario kart clone but not in a good way like CTR. Diddy Kong Racing got it all wrong. Controlling the vehicles is extremley frustrating, espically the planes. The courses are totally kiddish. I found myself getting motion sickness and boredom from this game. I was wondering what all the hype was about. This game is very dissapointing, honestly.

Excellent on paper -- not so good in reality

Diddy Kong Racing, simply put, is a game I have tried to love, and simply cannot do it. I have even tried to play it, but I cannot simply stand playing this insipid game. I do now know why, but this simply is not a good game. Perhaps it is particular tastes. But I simply cannot stand this game. The tracts are fairly imaginative. One grating thing about it is say you hit a tree. Well, instead of bouncing off like on many other racing games, you stay bashing into the tree. It does have some interesting features, however. The sheer volume of tracts (had it been any other game would have been a plus) shows ingenuity, the story line is interesting, but in execution the game just flails horribly.

Why do I give it 2 stars? The concept. I love the concept. Making an adventure out of a racing game, and the format they gave it is an excellent idea. The sheer number of tracks is exhilarating. And on some courses there are THREE (plane, hovercraft, kart) types of vehicles to use. It is just a tragedy that in practice it doesn't come off at all. It is nowhere near Super Mario Kart 64. That game is fast-paced and loads of fun, the best racer to hit the N64. Size wise, this dwarves Mario Kart 64. If they could have had the execution on Mario Kart 64 and the concept of Diddy Kong Racing, we would have had one hell of a game. Sadly, such a game does not exist (yet). We have to settle with a badly executed game (Diddy Kong Racing) with another racing game that is superb in all manner of ways. But, with a little engineering, we could have the best of both worlds. Super Mario Kart 64 is the way to go, folks. The multiplayer battle is really fun too, especially Block Fort. Superiour in concept, inferiour in execution. That's the bottom line.

Better than Mario Kart 64???

As a matter of fact (DKR) diddy kong racing is a BETTER game than mario kart 64. I love the characters in Mk 64 but the game moves too slow and it is impossible to master that game. However, DKR is an incredible game. I love this game because it was my first videogame. It entales many memories for me. There are 8 starting characters. The big characters are faster and the light characters have better handling. If you have ever played that game you probably know that tip-tup is a fan favorite. The best character is TT. He is the clock in the lobby of each world. To unlock TT you must beat his ghost in all of the time trials. It took me 5 1/2 years to accomplish this. But once I did I found the secret behind nintedo's best racing game EVER. There are numerous ways to become a great racer. Using the R and B button together gives your character a tight powerslide to make extremlely sharp corners. Use sparingly. Im reallly good at that game now... because it is worth the time to get great and school TT ghosts and hold records. The best vehical is the CAR no hover or plane please. This game is arguably the best racing game for n64. And overall DKR is in my top 5 Favorite games of all time. for any consol ever.
I hope it is a remade game for DS or wii virtual consol. If you have an n64 buy it for that but if you don't these two options will be ok.

The Mario Kart wanna be only deserves 1 1/2 stars.

I hardly liked this game because it was a wanna be version of Mario Kart 64, which, I thought, was a lot better. This game was hardly fun.

Seems like Mario Kart, But There's a Lot More to It

The adventure game is a lot of fun. It is a decent challenge, and there is a lot to do. When you finish the four worlds, you may think that you are done, but there is a secret space world hidden in the....There are two secret characters to find (Drumstick and T.T.) In order to get Drumstick, you must run over.... , and to get T.T. you have to.... in the Time Trial Mode. The characters and plot are great, as well as the special weapons, the multiplayer challenges (You can play by yourself in them too), the secret codes, the fact that you must defeat every boss and level twice with two kinds of challenges, the fact that you can use ..... and...... instead of just cars, the secret challenges, and other surprises. There is also a special second adventure mode where the courses are........ and the coins are hidden in spots you won't expect to find them...... There is also your basic tracks mode where you can play any unlocked level with any unlocked character or vehicle with up to four players. The adventure two mode tracks can be played here once they are unopened. If you like games by Rare and you like racing and/ or adventure games, this is for you (Taj says that in the game every time you get.....)

The only good part of this game is the fact you get an airplane, a hovercraft, and a car. I like how it lets you mess around get used to the vehicle of your choice, but it still sucks.

Super Game!

This game is awesome I would recomend it for everyone! Its a little better than Mario Kart 64 (ok i LOVED that game...!). You can choose from a plane, car, or boat to race with and has more exciting places to choose from. It takes a twist on ordianry racing. (ok i'm a bit biased...I LOVE ALL RACING GAMES!) lol. im a girl by the way.

I don't own this game but when Mum lets me I rent it out Blockbusters. Diddys' back with some new pals Conker, Banjo, Tiptup, Pipsie, Timber, some badger and Krunch the Kremling. Race through levels like Windmill Plains and Greenwhich Village. 4 BONUS levels include Darkwater Beach, Hot Top Volcano, an ice pyrimid and a castle! Choose from three vechials the plane, car or hovercraft. Collect keys, bannanas (Diddy luvs em!) and T.T amulets. Oh and theres also a Wizpig waiting to challenge you at the end of it all. Sound cool? Welcome to Diddy's world!

Fun for everyone

Diddy kong is definately better than mario kart. It has 20 tracks, 4 trophy races and 4 battle tracks. The battle tracks offer more variety than Mario kart because in mario kart, you had the same objective each time but in a different arena. In diddy kong each of the battles is different. Also, you can unlock new characters such as T.T. and Drumstick and there are lots of codes to make gameplay more interesting. The adventure mode is really fun especially if you play with someone else. (You need a code for a joint adventure). You can play with 3 different vehicles: hovercraft, car, and plane which all handle very differently. You will find that certain characters work best on different courses with different vehicles. Also, you are challenged to beat all of the race records and are rewarded with the character T.T. who is by far the best. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because it isn't as much fun when no one can beat you.
